The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread 2018 -2019

Video's out of date but demonstrative. Looks like a good player to me, class apart from the likes of Joselu. Clearly very strong with his head, so if we can get the right service into him we could be onto a winner. -

Really excited about Slimani. I honestly think he was the best striker we were linked with. Sturridge is more talented but his injury record worries me, and Jorgensen had flop written all over him. Looks like the Slovakian keeper is 'over the line' too. Don't know much about him - is he coming in to be number one? -
I guess, all in all, it's been a positive day. Kenedy looking like the bright attacking spark we've needed. Slimani now in and we finally have a decent striker. Should have won today, but those two players could be the difference in games exactly like today. We've got 1 point off Burnley when, quite frankly, we were definitely the better team across 180 minutes.

Ha. Oh dear. Can't even compete with WBA now. Is that the window done then? -

Would be an excellent coup I have to say. However, ideally I'd want another striker in because if Sturridge gets injured we're back to square one. And how often has Sturridge managed 14 games in a row? It's just crazy that, if we've made Jorgensen our top target and believe he's what we need, we won't go up to £20m for him. Ashley is surely insane. -

Oh it's undoubtedly also offensive, but I just feel the severity of its unfunniness brings that home harder. -

His sense of humour is almost as bad as he will be a football manager. -

Looks like it's Slimani judging by Twitter. He had a superb record at Sporting, and hasn't been the main man at Leicester though hasn't set the world alight. From what I've seen of him, he'll be a decent signing. And a f*ck load better than Joselu. -

Kenedy could turn out a bit like Atsu, who's usually been one of our better players this season tbf. Mind you, some of the excitement I saw on Twitter last night was a bit much. He's not likely to be more than a rotation option even for us. -

He's just an absolute waste of time and air. The bottom line is he will go if he gets an offer he deems good enough. It's just becoming clear that he won't go until he does get an offer he deems good enough. And insulting the people you're negotiating with, which is what he's just done, really doesn't help your cause. Quite bizarre. -

I understand Ashley's been away, but what the hell have Rafa and Charnley's conversations been like?! Do we mean to say that Charnley is so out of the loop that he can't even get basic essential information out of the owner? I get that we're waiting on Premier League money to come in, but the nonsense about breaking our wage structure is what I can't understand. If it's a six month loan for, say, Daniel Sturridge, surely here's what happens: say he's here for 16 weeks til the end of the season, we pay £120k per week x 16 = £1.92m. It's paid in 16 installments, it's not a massive amount, and it could keep us in the Premier League. Just can't get my head around that. -
I don't think there's a single player we can sell for money worth having that we'll also replace with someone better. It looks like loans will be our only hope, so we've got to rely on Ings deciding he wants to move and us being in pole position I think. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of other choice out there. In terms of fixtures ahead, there are three winnable games in the next 6. And tbh 4 points would probably be enough to keep us out of the drop zone. As someone mentioned, Burnley at home might come at just the right time to give us a boost. Just a narrow defeat would have to do us at City I feel.

The more I watch of Shelvey the more it becomes clear he's absolutely brainless. The prime example for me today was when we were a goal down, had to give the ball back to Swansea and Shelvey smacks it out for a goal kick right by the corner flag. Literally as good a job of time wasting as I've ever seen when we're the ones behind.

"Referee Andre Marriner did discuss the incident with the VAR Neil Swarbrick through his earpiece but he did not consult the pitch-side monitor because he was satisfied Murray's goal was legitimate. A review of an incident is only triggered if there has been a clear and obvious error by the referee, but goals such as Murray's can be checked by the two officials without any official review." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42615776 So, in other words, the two VAR officials can analyse the incident in real-time, from a number of angles, and they would alert the referee if they thought an error had been made.

Even Roy Hodgson admitted it was a fair goal. The referee spoke briefly to the VAR who said there was nothing worth stopping the game for, and on we went. I'd call that a success!

How much would he actually be worth anyway? Just bizarre that we'd countenance weakening a squad that's thin on the ground by selling one of our best players. EDIT: Was checking out Skybet last night, whose odds reckon it's actually more likely that Shelvey will be at West Ham than Newcastle at the end of the window. Can't post the link now because I'm at work. -
FA Cup 4th Round - Chelsea (or Norwich) v Newcastle
rogerbarton replied to wykikitoon's topic in Newcastle Forum
Ha. So never in the fifth round in 10 years of Ashley. In the 10 years prior, we got to 2 finals, 2 semi finals and 2 quarter finals. So actually got to at least the last 8 more often than not. As Gloom says, damning.
