I don't get your point tbh. Chelsea have always qualified for the CL in recent years, so they're obviously rivals to other clubs looking to do so, i.e. Spurs in this case. The fact Chelsea sacked their manager when it looked like they wouldn't qualify only reinforces that. Liverpool would have to be classed as Spurs' rivals too. Obviously Arsenal are but they're an anomaly, surely (arguably the exception that proves the rule re: spending). You can't seriously consider us to be the proper rivals to teams competing for CL spots until we've been knocking on the door for a few seasons at least.

It's an absolute fortune in relation to what most other people earn but, spent over the period in question, it clearly isn't an absolute fortune when compared to what Spurs' rivals were spending.
