I live on the coast as well (I live in Florida) but I was raised in Georgia which is considered by many to be the heart of the south and the region that you are referring to. The "cultural advances" that you list is a bit one sided IMHO. If we are referring strictly to the regions that you mentioned (South and Central) then you should also take into account the other "cultural advances" as well. It is a shame that you didn't list Martin Luther King Jr., William Faulkner (won the Nobel Prize in Literature), Tennessee Williams, Harper Lee (Pulitzer Prize winner), and Truman Capote. You also list country music as "trash" coming out of the south. Country music is a direct descendent of folk music from the British Isles. However, the music references are really down to opinion isn't it? Fair play to you if you don't like country music. There are other types of music that came from the south that one should take into account as well especially rock and roll. Artists such as Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, James Brown, etc. NASCAR? I actually recommend going to a NASCAR race. I took a friend of mine from the UK who is a rally/formula 1 fan when he was visiting this past summer and he had a great time. There is more to racing than what meets the eye (in any type of racing) and the same goes for NASCAR. If you don't know the details of it and only see it as men driving and only making left turns than that is up to you. But to state that it is trash is the equivalent of someone saying that soccer/football is crap because all they do is run around kicking a ball and scoring only two times in ninety minutes. I am willing to bet that you would call them ignorant and maybe try to explain the nuances that make the game exciting to you. As for lawnmower races ( ), grits, scrapple, Cracker Barrel,... those shouldn't even register on the "culture radar". Hardly huge examples of "Americana". Is that one book wonder Harper Lee? I wouldn't classify Truman Capote as much of a writer either. Got anything a bit more recent I should look out for?? That would be one hit wonder Harper Lee... but if I was to write only one book, I would hope that it was that good/successful! I like Capote, not in my top ten though. As for more recent authors from the area, none that I would consider to be great but then again, that is usually an adjective that is given to someone after they have died. Popular southern authors today would be: John Grisham, Anne Rice, John Berendt, and Cormac McCarthy. I guess these could be recommended. Their works have all been made into movies anyways.

For the record, I am not too fond of our national anthem. We sing about the flag FFS! Oh well... Nice ava T-Keith.

I just don't rate Bradley. You are right though, not suited for the English game. As for Altidore playing for Newcastle... I can dream.

When do the Americans cry? More importantly... when have we won everything? American sports people cry all the time, win or lose. Athletes especially, which you piss on the rest of the world at. It wasn't a criticism, it was to prove that crying sports person doesn't neccearily equal loser! Understood. Wasn't trying to start a debate but I didn't understand where you were coming from. Thanks. Crybaby.

Why? Racism. Even though Americans aren`t a race as such...........................I suppose that having a different culture is reason enough. Most Americans will come the exact same race as myself, so even if I hated black and latino people, I still wouldn't hate America. Their culture is of course very poor, though. North Americans, Central Americans, or South Americans??? The over-patriotic ones, which is pretty much all of them/you. It is pathetic, especially when you take their extreme lack of history and heritage into consideration. First Point: Out of curiousity, what makes our culture poor? Second Point: When you are referring to the over-patriotic ones; are you talking about the flag waving patriotism that started after 9/11 or are you referring to something else? As for the extreme lack of history and heritage... that is a shame. The English should have colonized us a lot earlier. How long does a country have to be in existence before we can have enough history and heritage to be patriotic? I think he's trying to say the Americans had a passion for the flag and the anthem. Which is fair enough as a lot of English players often look like they don't give a fuck. And I'm not fussed for American history (outside WW'S) and the odd kerouac book On the Road and Dharma Bums are my favorites. As for the passion for the flag and anthem... What is wrong with that? During the WC two years ago, I was in England and thought it was great how there were so many people driving around with the St. George's Cross on their cars, wearing the shirt, and my favorite were these kids I saw in Chichester wearing the flag and faces painted. Was that being over-patriotic? I would prefer my players to have some pride in their country and their shirt when they play... that is something I want in a Newcastle player as well!

Altidore would be the only one on the US team that I would want playing for Newcastle. Definitely pass on Bradley. I haven't seen him play one good game yet. Besides, there was a gossip thread (from yesterday I think) that mentioned Boro were interested in him. But Altidore? YES PLEASE. And he is good on FM.
-
I must admit that I like the current one better than the last one. Those iron-on stripes on the shoulders annoyed the hell out of me.

Boro in for Bradley...

A lot of them are hoping Mourinho comes back. I wonder if they will begin to use the term "messiah" if that happens...

Spray a think mist of pcp over them as you're hovering. Have some of that fuckheads.....Let's see you find you're way back home now!! Wouldn't that make them more unpredictable/aggressive???

Could someone please PM me with the reason why Woodgate can't go back to the NE? I have seen this referred to in other threads. Thanks.

On the other side of the coin whenever I've been to Asia or around Europe, I've barely seen either tops, different with the toon though. Most of Celtic and Rangers fan clubs have five and six members though, it's pathetic, like Ottawa Loyal RSC. Both are paranoid about their perceived size, and both are right to presume the majority of people who have half a clue know both clubs are fuck all. I see your point.
-
Not trying to start an argument here but I have seen more Celtic supporters clubs here in the states than I have NUFC supporters clubs.

Proving beyond doubt you're a cunt. I will support anyone who's playing Italy, and Spain would be the third team I'd least like to see win it. I hope Greece win it again, doubt they will but you never know. I don't give a fuck really, MCClaren has made sure it's a shit summer in England. I think France will win it and prove everyone wrong....again. Player for player they're the best, they just need to sort it out. The Bolton of international football. Some of the stuff they played in 2004 was shite like. Really hope they go out at the the first stage. Won't happen. The tried-and-true method of scoring one goal and then stuffing every player in the box will get them through.

Been hearing about the Pompey win all f***ing weekend long as my fiancee and her family are all from Portsmouth.
