1. but its one anyone claiming to be a top rate striker would have buried - its not as if we have a load of other Shola goals to compare with is it?

    39109

Owen missed a one on one against James, does that mean he isn't a top rate stiker? Not saying Shola is going to be top class or whatever but you can't read too much into one missed chance.

    39113

It's not just one missed chance though is it? He's been missing for about 5 years now has he not?

I agree with you btw that he does get unfair criticism, but I think this is because we know from experience he isn't good enough for us.

  2. So it's now Chelsea's fault that Man United are playing a 4-5-1 formation which doesn't work? It's Chelsea's fault that Arsenal sold Vieira, and lost Henry to injury?

It's Chelsea's fault that Liverpool bought Crouch rather than someone like Owen?

Riiiiiight, ok then. Chelsea are ruining the Premiership. You sure it's not Souness?

    39104

It's not anyones's fault, but surely you concede that a foreign multibillionaire buying an EPL club essentially as a plaything is not good for football. Not only have they literally made it impossible to compete for the premiership, they have completely fucked up the transfer market at a time when thransfer fees were stabilising.

People talk about the dominance of Liverpool in the 70s and 80s, or ManU in the 90s, but this is different. Chelsea can buy anyone they want, money no object. They don't have to make a profit or even balance the books. As long as Abromovich is there they will win the premiership every year for 10 years. Now that is boring.

And yes, it is partly Souness's fault. Apparently he turned them down, or so he says. Pity, it would have been a great leveller. ;)

  3. On a semi-related note, did we ever find out who the player was in the photo Anal Oliver talked about? You know, the one sticking his finger up at Sir Bob behind his back?

    39098

I had always thought that was Dyer, but I have nothing to back that up I admit. It just seems like something he would do, although I can imagine Bellamy doing it too.

  4. According to The Sunday Times it's possibly the worst gangster film ever. Praise indeed ;)

Bastard! You have now piqued my curiousity so much I'm going to have to see it!

    39034

    Noooooooo!

If you must see it, then download a pirated copy or sneak in.

I feel abused after last night. Would you want Guy Richie to profit from abusing me?

    39061

Oh OK then. I'll go and see "Goal" instead. :dork:

  5. That seems much longer and serious than the usual jovial comments. They are spot on with the stuff about Chelsea though, it's just a shame that most people didn't realise how bad Abramovich would be for English football when he bought them.

    39067

He was obviously going to be a bad thing, but what can anyone do? I don't think it is an over exaggeration to say he is ruining the premiership.

  7. How did Boumsong play? The News of the World (my housemate bought it) gave him 4/10, saying if he was worth £8m then your average pub player was worth £4m.

    39028

I thought he was poor personally. He seems scared to anything with the ball at the minute other than to pass it back to Shay, and he doesn't even do that very well.

When Taylor is back he should be dropped, but because he is a Souness signing, and a very expensive one at that, he won't be.

  8. Is that you Sweet Left Peg?

    IP CHECK!

    39010

    Not guilty m'lord. :dork:

    39025

    Not quite ;)

    39026

    Fozzy bear?

  9. Newcastle v Sunderland is a Derby game.

Newcastle v Middlesborough is not a Derby game.

Sunderland v Middlesborough is whatever the fuck they want it to be. It doesn't concern me.

For 90 minutes yesterday, I wanted the Mackems to win. It's kicked us up into the top half of the table, which will no doubt piss them off. It's got them thier win, which means they wont come to our place winless, which would have been dodgy. Ultimately, if the Mackems winning helps us out, them I'm not going to sit there and wish they were getting wellied.

As for the Smogs? They're just another team that I cannot stand. They go hand in hand with Spurs, Wolves and Everton for me. Have no time for any of them. There are various reasons for most of them, but the one that stands out most is that thier fans can be total tossers when they want to be, and they've all got various massive chips on thier shoulders.

    ;) tbh.

    38999

To be fair, everyone I have ever met met from Boro in a non-football context has been really canny. I just think they are a football irrelevance, they simply have no reason to exist. If only Gibson was our chairman, imagine what he could have achieved!

  11. Doesn't he also manage to get references to Kabbalah in there too?  Not under the thumb at all then eh.....?

    38962

I was surprised she wasn't in it tbh.

    38980

Surely he's not that under the thumb, she's absolutely gash at acting.

    38981

I quite liked desperately seeking Susan. ;)

Agree with what others have said. Lock, stock was class, but I don't rate Snatch at all and I won't be rushing to see this.

It's alright despite Madonna though, wouldn't you say?

    38991

Well I guess she was in character (i.e. playing herself as she was in the early 80s). She had a powerful effect on adolescent lads then. Wouldn't watch it again now mind.

I forgot about Evita where she was quite good, although obviously eclipsed by Jimmy Nail!

  14. So with Owen looking to get between 15 and 20 goals, and 20 goal a season man Ameobi waiting to take over from Shearer, we're set ;)

    38961

I feel for Ameobi, its not his fault he's not a football player any more than its my fault I'm not.

However, he obviously is not the heir apparent for Shearer, and I don't think Owen is really the primary striker type either. I think to be successful we're going to have to fork out a lot more money come next summer, but I'm not sure we can afford it.

  15. Bellamy was and still is a class player. I'd have loved him to stay here and become a local legend but because he couldn't stop his mouth from going and our current manager is a tosser it was never to be. Anyway, he's gone and now we've got someone who is five times the player in Owen.

    38934

And he was signed by the 'tosser' ;)

    38935

Completely disrespectful to call Shearer a tosser tbh.

    38944

Aye because it would kill you to give Souness any credit :dork:

    38949

Would Owen have come here if it wasn't for Shearer? Would he fuck!

Souness can take the credit for all the lemons.

  16. The reason Owen has never scored 20 league goals in a season is becaise he spends a lot of time out injured. His goals to game ratio is superb. Unfortunately, his injuries are unlikely to stop here.

Still, I think he is a brilliant player, I keep pinching myself that he is here. Souness is one lucky bastard! ;)

  18. Souness should be grateful Hughes didn't utilise Bellamy properly against us last Sunday. It would have been a blood bath, but instead he completely fucked up his tactics (makes a change from Souness!).

AF, have you any evidence that Bellamy was a disruptive influence in the dressing room, independent from what Souness or his cronies have said? Funny how both Dyer and Bowyer are still here, isn't it?

    38578

It's almost like you wanted Bellamy to murder us to prove Souness wrong ;)

    38865

Not at all, I was just making an observation. I'm not sure why Hughes didn't go 4-4-2 against us, was Dickov injured or something (really can't remember). However, if they had put up that performance against ManU against us, they would probably have won by a large margin and Souness might be out of a job. Do you disagree?

It's a funny old game as they say.

    38578

Bobby Robson has stated several times that Bellamy was the worst player he's had to deal with (or something along those lines - and he didn't mean ability wise)

    38858

I thought that was Robert. Anyway, I think in his autobiography he states Romario was the most difficult player he had to deal with - but he was worth it for the good of the team etc. etc.

  21. treat a bloke at work once in his late 60s who had put his cock in a 2 litre coke bottle and couldnt get it back out. so he chopped the whole bottle off and just left the top ring on. he was too embarrassed to come see us for a week and by the time he did come in it was black and dead and ready to be amputated!

    moral of the story

    use a bigger bottle!

    38317

Or a wider-fitting hoover attachment. That was one of our funnier ones when I was in A&E

    38343

There was this brand of hoover that was made once which had spinning blades set back about 6 inches or so from the end of the tube. Now, iirc, the average male member is about 6 and 1/2 inches, and it led to a major epidemic of mutilated men going to A&E having had the the last 1/2 inch of their glans penis (i.e. bell end) cut off. ;) . Not to mention very substantial blood loss.

This is a true story btw, I have seen the articles myself published in very respectable medical journals. It's before electronic copies, so I can't link it, but trust me, it's true.
