1. I thought the fans created a good atmosphere yesterday, it was the players and the manager that let us down, and it was rewarded with a round of applause.

Anyway, it's true that ManU's away support is phenominal, but not as good as it once was. We simply suffered because we have no comebacks to their taunts - our team is so shit what can we sing back? Shearer, of course, gets the brunt of it, which is why he is particularly backed in this fixture - nowt wrong with that.

And they were spot on with chants of Souness for England, One more scouser on the dole (well he's obviously not a scouser but you know what they meant), and you're going down.

FFS give us a team worthy of support then you will hear the difference!

  2. One of the biggest myths of the deluded Newcastle fans is that Souness has "shored up" the defence. He hasn't, in fact last year we had the worst record in our premiership history.

Still people will believe what they want to.....

    21221

along with the myth of how bad our defence was under Keegan

    21230

    Quite.

I think people assumed we had a poor defence under Keegan because we played with such flair. Likewise they assume we have a good defence under Souness because we play with no flair whatsoever!

Nothing could be further from the truth.

  3. I believe Shepherd is probably making enquiries about other managers. He's hardly going to advertise the fact though is he!?

I believe that with Souness we will finish in the top 6. Not very good considering, but don't forget that in Bobby's first 2 seasons we finished 13th and 11th.

    21212

You are insane. How can you possibly think we will end in the top six - have you actually seen us play in the past year?

Nearly 10 hours now in the league without a goal from a Newcastle player. Top six my arse!

  4. The quality of manager we'd be able to get at the end of the season depends on if the club is in a resucable state, or if we're a freefall trainwreck that no-one would risk their reputation gambling on.

    21204

Thats just it. Right now last seasons failure to qualify for Europe is seen a blip, the signings of Luque, Emre and Parker show this. However if we continue to go through the season in freefall with no Europe once again its not only the standard of manager that we will have trouble attacting to the club but players both in signings and hanging on to what we have.

    21209

We have no chance of qualifying for Europe with Souness. None whatsoever.

  5. If you've got the wronf man, you should het shot of him as soon as possible. It makes absolutley no sense to keep him. I agree it was an amazingly bad appoitment to begin with, and despite the fact I knew it would happen, I am astounded that Shepherd is repeating the same mistake over and over again by probably sacking the manager at the start of the season.

But really, in my opinion, he has to get rid of him now, because if he doesn't, relegation is a real possibility and that would be disastrous.

  6. WE WON'T GET RELEGATED.

    21183

How on earth can you say that. Are you completely oblivious to what is happening, to where this club is going. A few injuries and we are down with this clown.

I can remember someone on here pointed out that Souness has never been relegated before. There is a reason for that - he has been sacked at virtually every club he has been with before that could happen, Blackburn being a prime example.

  7. Well partly, anyway.

So getting back to the point, well done you lot for keeping Souness in a job. Well done for accepting such mediocrity with such gratitude. The happy clappy brigade are going to get us fucking relegated. Hope they are still clapping in the championship.

    21122

So what is the answer - walk out ?

Then start slagging each other off on the forums, and getting other supporters doing likewise ?

    Dont be daft.

We need Souey OUT thats for sure. But we are not going to for a while yet. Then Shepherd will sack him after the transfer window closes, thereby stopping three quarters of possible managers coming in.

This is SHEPHERDS fault for bringing Souness in in the first place.

Now out of desperation he is offering ludicrous, idiotic amounts to bring in players that might paper over the cracks. The Rooney humiliation did far more damage than good. We are still being mocked for that - thank you Shepherd.

But bottom line. Shepherd brought this twat in. We are 4 games into the season, the club is in a fucking mess like it hasnt been for years, we still havent scored and don't LOOK as if we are going to, and if it wasnt for the makems, we'd be propping up the bastard league despite spending vast amounts, second only to Chelsea. If that isnt managerial incompetence on the grand level I don't know what frigging is.

Shepherd brought him in Shepherd is to blame.

    21136

Shepherd is a grade A idiot who reacts to the fans. If the fans accept mediocrity and clap after a humiliating defeat.he's not going to react to it and bin Souness.

If we'd kicked up a stink after the Chelsea game, maybe he would have reacted then. But amazingly we didn't, despite the treatment we gave Robson a year earlier. I just don't understand how anyone can be happy with our performances and results this year. I'm sorry, I'm still angry. If anyone here here stayed and clapped yesterday they are a major part of the problem imo.

  8. The time to get rid of Souness is Thursday morning (not exactly now I know). On Thursday the window is shut no more players moving anywhere. We then have the weekend off and a week and 3 days of the caretaker manager to organise the team how he wants. It also gives FF time to organise a replacement for a*seface (apologies Preacher mag fans). However if i had been in charge I would be doing that now (actually if i was in charge we wouldnt have got the useless get in the first place). Souness couldnt manage a bus route on Arran never mind a premiership team. I still don't understand how anyone can back him.

    21126

It take it you didn't see our great performance against the mighty ManU then. :)

He's doing a great job.

  9. Well partly, anyway.

Yesterday we had a decent first falf, and at least put up a battling performance. But our lack of width was obvious, and it seems to me that our game plan, as always under Souness, is to stop the other team playing rather than play ourselves. It was also obvioulsy an idiotic mistake to play Dyer and Emre when they weren't fit - the actions of a desperate man.

But in the second half we were abysmal, absolutely shocking. We were playing at home, but had no posession. Boumsong, 8 million quid?

And the worst part about it was that ManU were shit as well, playing the worst I can remember from them at SJP in over a decade. Some people will say we made them play bad, but this is bollocks in my opinion, they were just having an off-day and they are going to struggle now Keane is past it.

But they still owned us, winning 2-0 away from home. Their fans took the piss throughout the match, and we had no comebacks - really depressing. But the worst thing? About half of our lot actually clapped us off after the match. Why the fuck would anyone do that after witnessing that abortion of a second half is beyond me. One point and NO goals from 4 games says it all.

So getting back to the point, well done you lot for keeping Souness in a job. Well done for accepting such mediocrity with such gratitude. The happy clappy brigade are going to get us fucking relegated. Hope they are still clapping in the championship.

  10. I've always said almost exactly what you do, ie the "rebound" factor.

However it is hindsight, and hindsight is easy. You have also noticed the pattern. I personally was pleased with Dalglish [although devastated Keegan had gone] and very unhappy with Gullit. Happy with Bobby Robson. Extremely pissed off with Souness. In Gullits and Souness case I hoped they would change my mind, obviously. Souness' honeymoon period in my eyes though was very short.......

The point is, the vast majority of supporters were very happy with both Dalglish and Gullit at the time. So if Shepherd misjudged, so did the vast majority of supporters, including me when he chose Dalglish.

If he appoints a manager we are happy with next time, ie Le Guen to take one of your two example, will you still say Shepherd is a nugget ???? when you agreed with him.

On the other hand, if he appoints the right guy, either through inspiration or sheer luck, he will back him with plenty of cash, and as the right manager doesn't waste money like the wrong ones do, no one will falsely accuse him of not "splashing the cash"

    19227

My opinions of our recent managerial appointments are similar to yours: I thought Dalglish would be the next step up (still think he wasn't given enough time), I thought Gullit was wrong from the start, SBR was obviously a great signing (what a shame he didn't directly follow Keegan), and I was utterly dismayed at Souness, which has to rank as one of the worst appointments of all time.

My view now is that Souness is an incompetent bully who will never get it right, for us or anyone else. With this in mind I want shot of him ASAP. I honestly believe no manager, even Glen Roeder, would do a worse job. Having said that, I have no faith in Shepherd to get the replacement right, but I'll be amazed if he manages to cock it up as badly as he did last time.

ManU will show is up for what we are. It's pathetic how some people think the addition of one player will transform us from the team who played Bolton. The most important signing at any club (by a million miles) is the manager; until we get that right we are pissing in the wind.

  11. Just reading his CV on the BBC. To be fair, he seems like a decent player, but not a world beater. Also, he really isn't a striker, and might suffer if we push him too far up front. We still need another striker desperately.

  12. Albert luque jetted in to tyneside this morning to complete a medical. :icon_lol:

    19014

You seem to be getting very excited about Luque. How much do you really know about him?

I'm not saying he is not a good player, and not trying to put a downer on this, but I can honestly say I had not even heard of him before our interest. But several threads have popped up from NUFC fans saying what a fantastic player he is, and they know this from watching Spanish football. Deportivo? Really?

My concerns are that he is overpriced, he won't fit into the PL, he won't score enough goals (Souness has already said he is not prolific), and that he is joining us for a big pay day (papers have reported he has been enticed by a large "cash sweetener"). But I really don't know, I'll just have to wait and see.

If we're really lucky he might be nearly as good as Robert!

    19069

Looking on the bright side as usual. ;)

    19073

I all seriousness, if you think that is negative, it isn't. It's just I'm not going to get excited about a player I know nothing about. Should I?

    19076

No I just find it funny that your immediate reaction on news of signing him is not one of joy, but instead that he may be overpriced, he won't fit into the PL, he won't score enough goals, and that he is joining us for a big pay day.

    19095

    Fair enough I suppose.

    :icon_lol:

  13. earlier on this summer, when barca were looking for a new striker, there was talk that they had promised to sign luque this time next year. He has been looking for a move away from La coruna for a while.

I saw him play the second half for La coruna against Real Zaragoza last season and also on Tv a couple of times and he seems to be a mre consistent player than Robert, prepared to run at people. 10 goals a season would still make him quite high up our top scorers charts

    19074

That's fine if it happens, but I don't know how you personally can say he is more consistent than Robert based on a couple of matches.

Anyway, hope he makes a useful addition to the team for our next manager.

  16. At an actual match once it kicks of its pretty much unlikely people want their team to lose, its goes against instinct.

Where the debate comes in is if you know a defeat (or maybe 2-3) is going to get Souness out and save us from disitigration under the gormless fucker.

When the mackems beat us under Gullit, nobody wanted us to lose, but christ i'm greatful for it long term as it got Gullit out in time and got Bobby in leading ultimately to us in the CL. Had Gullit fluked a win past the mackems that would have bought him time to continue with the mess he was making, which would mean maybe Bobby was no longer available or at the very least he'd have less time to turn us round.

So in answer? I'd find it hard to ever want us to lose once i'm there, but if somebody gave me a cast iron Guarentee a 1 of defeat would dump Souness out on his arse i'd take it like a shot. However that situation isn't goign to happen.

    18685

Pretty much what I think. The Gullit situation of course was worse due to the stand off with Shearer and Lee.

If we are going to lose on Sunday and not get a point, let's get truely spanked, so hopefully lardarse will be forced to do something about it.

  17. Worthless Post, its easy to blame the manager isn't it, so we sack Graeme and where does that leave us?? Low morale etc..

    18232

Actually, getting a new manager in nearly always boosts morale.

Hell, it even worked for Souness!

  18. :D

FFS Lawrenson, we know he's your mate but....

Actually this is good, it increases expectation and doesn't help Souness one bit.

Personlly, I reckon another shock 5-0 to us is on the cards.....  :D

    18127

You're almost willing it to happen aren't you.

I hope we get a draw and a fair wind, we'll be up and rocking in no time.

    What......! You hope I'm wrong!!!

    18170

Think what you like. I'd like a win, failing that a draw. But if we are going to lose anyway, and therefore not get any points, I want us to be annihilated, as long as that finally gets the tosser who is manager to get out of our club.

Maybe then even you will realise what a shit job he is doing and where we are heading, but some how I doubt it and it will all be the fans fault as usual.

  19. I know like I know my own cock, that a massive investment of belief by the fans, in the team would turn this club around more than any player or manager could.

    18049

You really are on a different planet aren't you?

Just one problem with your theory. I was at the Arsenal match last week, and can verify its true what they say about the Highbury library - they didn't make a squeak.

Yet Arsenal are one of the best teams on the planet, and only 2 years ago went the whole SEASON unbeaten in the league, both home and away. Nothing to do with their manager and players, I suppose?

Also, Newcastle fans are very noisy away from home, and guess what, we're shite. Even at Cardiff where we owned ManU, we were utter shit.

So how do you square this? You really haven't a clue, have you? :D
