The Viz rendered redundant once again

It was a short lived musical movement. That’s it. More people were into disco which was all about hedonism. Either way you haven’t demonstrated anything which disproves my original point despite your inferred disagreement. You paint a bleak picture but unemployment was lower than now and lower than virtually any time since and it was much worse in the decade after. Young people had free access to higher education plus grants and you could walk into a job that offered apprenticeships and things like that. And there’s not really much of a pattern there either in the link you seem to be trying to make between Punk and Acid House. Despite the punk credentials of a small number of people involved in the UK acid house scene it was a movement borne out of a very specific club scene in America. The records gradually filtered across the Atlantic while the people slowly became aware of the drugs via places like Ibiza. Also, by the time it became popular the country had come out of the worst of the 80s compared to when it was at its worst in the middle of the decade. Back then loads of young people were wearing dress pants and loafers and dancing to Wham whilst drinking dodgy cocktails. So how does that fit in?

I was thinking the same. Moves the goalposts more often than the party he betrayed at the last election

We shouldn't really be that bothered what one of the main architects of neoliberalism thinks about anything given what a fucking disaster it's been

Not really the same level of investment though, is it?

I was joking. There were plenty social problems. But, at the end of the day it was a short lived youth movement mainly about music and getting wrecked. Like just about every other youth scene. Are you saying wealth inequality was less at the end of the 90s because of Acid House and people being loved up? Because I'm failing to see your point

Basically mainstream social democracy on the continent. But hard left according to fuck wits who need to be spoonfed their info because they've never even read a book

No, that's pretty much it. You can argue that the transition to service industries was necessary (although there's plenty evidence to the contrary) but either way it was done with such speed and so little afterthought as to those it impacted on that you can still see it today all over places like the North East.

No, that was down to Prog Rock

And despite that she ran a deficit in most of her years in power. And unemployment was at almost double the levels it was when she left office compared to when she commenced her premiership.

1977 was the year with the least wealth inequality in this country's history.

It's hardly a new idea that Thatcher conned the country by selling the family silver and using the North Sea oil money to cut taxes. It's also demonstrably true. But you know, house prices went up. Which is GREAT (C) for everyone

Sunderland's 13th consecutive defeat in a relegation season where they finished rock bottom a mere 25 points from safety All the picture's missing is Uncal Mick and that statue of Bob Stokoe tbh.
