  1. At least he hasn't got his previous clubs relegated.
  2. My impression form the interview on 5 Live this morning was that Martin O'Neill would have come to Newcastle if Shepherd had been prepared to wait a bit longer as the position regarding his wife's health has recently impoved. The full interview is on at 7pm tonight. As far as the signing of Luque goes that was definately down to Souness although I think Shepherd (&Shearer) signed Owen.
  3. I have just been and handed in my renewal. What more could any fan want! It makes the lack of an ambitious managerial appointment, the prospect of no-one other than Amoebi to replace the vastly overpaid and malingering Owen (if he is still here) and the fact we have gone so far backwards in the last 2 years that we are no longer even discussed in the same breath as the top 4 or 5 teams all seem irrelevant.
  4. A pro-license is not needed to manage in the Championship. It has been confirmed that Klug has been appointed Director of football at Ipswich. I am sure we can find a Geordie to put in charge of our academy instead.
  5. A possibility of another ex-Chelsea player to add to our collection as we are the only ones willing to go anywhere near matching their crazy wages.
  6. A bit of a conflict with our new manager's quotes the other day that Dyer has matured since the birth of his second son, is a changed person and is already working hard to be fit next season.
  7. Roeder wants Chopra to stay but is willing to sell Milner? But then again Chopra is a Geordie so better suited to Freddies's new line up I suppose.
  8. Well we might win the Inter Toto Cup (I know there isn't one)!
  9. Yes but after Roy Evans they decided they needed to move on and modernise the club! Feddy is a bit late to jump on the bandwaggon. In any event I am not sure you can compare Shankley and Paisley to Roeder, Craig and Clark.
  10. A true superfan would only ever wear black and white and won't eat tomatoes as they are red. I saw it on a TV programme once!
  11. According to Alan Oliver our useless Chairman is to appoint a management structure of Roeder, Craig , Shearer and Clark. Having previously appointed 2 former Liverpool managers Shepherd now seems to be trying to create his own version of the boot room years after Liverpool have moved on from it. Instead of searching Europe for the next Wenger, Benitez or Mourinho he can't be bothered to look beyond the training ground.
  12. I think you are supposed to raise money for Shearer's nomintaed charity the NSPCC. We have to pay £2 for the privilege of coming to work in black and white clothes.
  13. As long as it's not Martin O'Neill I don't care who is appointed England manager. The cliches about women and football annoy me though. There are a lot of women and men who are clueless about football if they aren't fans. Mind you the supposed football experts on the 3 legends can be pretty clueless at times. Last night Boro fans were telephoning saying they would qualify for Europe through the Intertoto cup and they didn't seem to have any idea about the new rules.
  14. Huge queues outside SJP this morning!
  15. Glen Roeder has undoubtedly done a good job and whilst I would prefer him to many of the people being touted for the job it is hard to know how much influence Shearer is also having and whether Roeder would be able to continue to acheive the same results while Shearer is having his year off. Also, I am not sure if Roeder could build a team to bring us back to the very top and challenge for the Champions League. I was a bit concerned about some of his comments yesterday about Shearer being ready to take over in Summer 2007 and worry that the prospect of Shearer hovering in the background could have an unsettling effect on any new manager and possibly even put people off taking the job.
  16. The odds have been all over the place with the various Hoddle, Hitzfeld etc rumours. O'Neill, Mancini and Newell are all continuing to come in at the minute. There doesn't seem to have been any dramatic shortening in O'Neill's odds since the Talksport announcement though.
  17. I know he was a bit less rubbish than normal last night and had an almost acceptable performance but Alan Oliver must have watched a different game to me to write that Boumsong is back and "looked every inch the french international that he is"
  18. I would be delighted if it was O'Neill and just hope the ridiculous Hitzfeld campaign doesn't put him off. Not many managers are held in such high esteem as O'Neill after they have left a club and not only has he won domestic trophies but if it hadn't been for the diving of Jose's Porto players Celtic would have won the UEFA Cup not to mention his Champions League experience. Also, it would really annoy the media if O'Neill chose Newcastle over England.
  19. According to todays Journal there will be announcement later this month of good news regarding Martin O'Neill's wife's health and he is more interested in a hands on job like Newcastle than the England job with less day to day involvement.
  20. Everton's 4th place finish meant they entered the Champions League qualification rounds. They did not qualify for the Champions League and have never been in the competition (many on Merseyside are of course still bitter that they would have been in the European Cup had it not been for the ban on British clubs following Heysel). Remember how disappointed we were when we were knocked out at the same stage? And now you are saying you are happy that we are not quite as bad as last year. As Leazes Mag says how expectations have been sucessfully lowered!
  21. Sunderland, Birmingham, Everton and Portsmouth did not finish 4th, 3rd and fifth in the Premiership, have never played in the Champions League and do not have 52,000 fans every week. You have to look at where we were when Souness arrived compared to where we have fallen to now. A year and a half ago we were in a similar situation to Liverpool - look at us now.
  22. Shepherd seems to have a thing about Woodgate to the extent that the Official Website is still running stories about him scoring etc It suggests we might well try and bring him back as some of the papers have been reporting.
  23. Its hardly a great moral boost for the players prior to the derby match. You don't hear Mick McCarthy whingeing on and lets face it he has plenty to whinge about - 2p to spend compared to 40 million, a half empty stadium and a team full of lower league players. He couldn't dream even of buying the ones we let go on the cheap never mind Michael Owen. Imagine the job Souness would do if he had to try and manage without any money and actaully had to spot new talent instead of buying established players.
  24. Although I had high hopes for JJ when he signed and always thought he might turn into a decent player with proper coaching the fact that Wenger or Ferguson didn't want him for 7 million probably says something.
  25. I entirely agree. I am excited about the new signings but without a change of manager I still don't think we will qualify for Europe. My guess is that Freddie will see how Souness is doing after a few matches and if it isn't good enough make the change. At least a new manager would then inherit a decent first team.
