  1. [i've pretty much given up hope of having a father-son relationship with him since I don't see him as my Dad. You know what, I don't need the relationship either. I've managed well enough without him through 'the difficult teenage years', it'll be a piece of piss from now on I know what you mean. I never had a great relationship with my dad but when he met his new wife (who is much younger than him) she didn't want him to have anything to do with me and my Sister. My Dad either didn't want to stand up to her or didn't have the bottle to. I tried a few times to have some kind of relationship but he didn't seem interested and I now get a phone call at Christmas and on my birthday. But you're right I have managed well enough without him and maybe no relationship is better than one that just causes everyone stress.
  2. I am with Virgin Media (formerly telewest) and apparently we are losing Sky Sports One, Sky Sports News and Sky News. I have been watching Dream Team for years and am now going to miss the end of the last season which is really annoying. I also watch Sky Sports News a fair bit, especially over the Summer (although I watched it more when we actually did some decent transfer activity).

    Cath

Happy Birthday Cath. Enjoy it (and I hope you don't feel too ill tomorrow!).
  4. There is a risk with change that it could be worse rather than better. However, if the current board really care about the club they don't have to sell to someone they think won't run the club properly after all the Wolves Chariman wouldn't sell to the Souness consortium! It suprises me that Liverpool were sold to the Americans with their slightly dodgy track record rather than the Maktoum's with their long association with British Horse Racing.

    Ryan Giggs

My favourite ever Premiership player (except for Shearer of course!).
  6. Having lived a couple of other places in the UK I was always glad when I came back especially because of the football. Maybe it is a reflection of what has happened in football but over the last 10 years I feel Newcastle has really lost its character (just like Premiership football) and become a city full of chain pubs, charvas and hen and stag nights. Other places have developed but still kept their character but Newcastle has lost it (unless the character really is charvas and pissed people). I work in Newcastle and go to the match but hardly ever go out there and would love to live somewhere with a more Euopean flava (and warmer climate).
  7. Rob Lee has just been discussing the fall of Newcastle and how we are now a million miles away (unusual not to hear him repeating the usual stuff to keep Shepherd happy) and Bowyer talking about the incident with Dyer. Rob Lee also said the only teams he would now pay to watch are Newcastle and Man Utd. The Newcastle match is on now and it will be interesting to hear the comments!
  8. I am suprised Freddie hasn't invited him to join the coaching staff of the Geordie Nation. Perhaps it is because he is from Chester-le-Street and being from South of the Tyne isn't a proper Geordie like Lee Clarke or Peter Beardsley. Maybe he doesn't even qualify as an adopted one like Roeder never having played for us.

    Lost

I think the first few episodes of the series are being repeated this week with the new one being shown on Sunday on Sky One.
  10. No - it proves that money can (in the absence of any other better club being willing to pay as much).
  11. Well, he got Martins and Duff to come. Not exactly nobodies. We got Duff because no-one else would match his huge Chelsea wages and he wasn't a player we needed with the likes of Milner and N'Zogbia and neither has he made an impact in my opinion. With regard to Martins again I don't think he was the type of player we needed. We could have played Dyer, N'Zogbia, Milner etc up front with a strong striker such as Kuyt until Owen was fit. Martins is ineffective without that type of player to hold up the ball for him (not to mention the fact that of course we wouldn't have needed another little pacey striker if Shepherd hadn't allowed Souness to sell Bellamy). I don't recall a huge queue of clubs that we had to fight off to give Milan their 10 million.
  12. It might have all been said before but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep saying it in the hope that eventually someone might take some notice. I have heard very little in either the local or national media which accurately reflects the disillusionment with the club and unless people keep putting this forward then when our attendances start to drop the likes of Man City fans will start having a go at the apathetic Geordie fans etc. The club and media need to know we are fed up and why. People on this board are always having a go at Liverpool fans but at least they know how to grab the media attention and try and get things done instead of just putting up with everything. Newcastle United shouldn't be allowed to use fan apathy to get away with lowering our expectations any further.
  13. Well lets face it Roeder clearly isn't the sort of manager that can attract players and the club won't exactly be an appealing proposition without European Football. If we do manage to persuade anyone to sign it will be mercenaries like Viduka after their big pay day.
  14. I agree with Gemill's sentiments entirely. A year ago everyone would have been apalled at the thought of Ameobi replacing Shearer (and Martins is certainly no replacement). It seems to be a case of Ameobi's repuation growing whilst he is injured. In the words of Graeme Souness we need a "proper" striker in the Summer i.e. one who can both hold up the ball for Martins or Owen and actually score goals. A bit like the past it striker Man Utd have on their books at the moment.

    Itunes

I gave up with I-Tunes and my Ipod 2 years ago when for some reason it set itself as USA default and there was no way I could change it to UK (it just kept changing itself back again) so I couldn't download anything. I e-mailed Apple/I-tunes loads of times but still couldn't sort it out.
  16. I hope so. I make a conscious effort to use companies with call centres based in this country as in my experience the customer service is a lot better. I got rid of my M&S card after a call centre based abroad managed to pay £1600 to the wrong place and it took me ages to sort out. It was only resolved when it was transferred to Chester where M&S staff sorted it out and paid compensation!
  17. I think the car parks by the Civic Centre and Northumbria Uni are usually pretty cheap and are free after 6.30pm.
  18. No-one in the media seems to have picked up the reduced prices for yesterday when discussing how the poor Birmingham fans couldn't afford it after Christmas. But according to the journalists on the Jimmy Hill Sunday show the Newcastle fans are willing to pay as unlike the top clubs we still see it as a big competition due to our lack of success!
  19. Perhaps you should have a look at the Hillsborough Jutice Campaign website which sets out exactly what they want before having a go.
  20. I think the club shop sale started yesterday so those who bought all their NUFC gear early for Christmas would have been better off being disorganised.
  21. When I was in HMV the other day the DVD's were on special offer.
  22. It will be interesting to see what the crowd is against Chelsea what with it being on Sky and the week before Christmas. I never normally miss any home cup games but haven't attended a couple of European home ties this season and am saving the money and watching it on TV on Wednesday.
  23. Apparently there is going to be a big presentation before the next European match.
  24. There was an article about that on the radio and only a handful of people got the orders before Sainsurys realised and made everyone pay the full price if they wanted their delivery.
