didnt we first enter the intertoto under "proper" manager robson...didn't we also fail to qualify for the uefa that season(beaten on away goals by troyes) which means we must have been crap......errrr finished 3rd that season. before you start blasting off that i think we'll finish 3rd...i dont,but i dont think its as bad as you and others are making out. we despearatly need a forward for the first 11,and a left sided midfielder(emre could play there but he'd be wasted). at the minute a lot of clubs are still in the market,allardyce has today said he needs 3 for the first team,arsenal will not think theyll win the league without a replacement for viera..... IF we bring in a decent forward and left midfielder(yes i know a left back would be handy aswell),that will be a decnt first 16. all i said was europe wasnt all it's cracked up to be(teams that is) and we end up at this old chestnut.

my words say that in general,in the earlier rounds of the uefa cup we dont come up against teams as good as depor. breda,sochaux,djurgardens,zaljeznicar,panionios,all the type of poor team who i'd reckon we'd still beat even now. your use of depor in that light is silly as you know the point i'm trying to make.

why couldnt we have coped in europe this season.i'm not suggesting we'd have won it,but the quarter finals would have been easily attainble.look at the teams we've played in the earlier rounds the last couple of years.for all we are not at our best at the minute(a good forward would give us a good starting 16)the likes of breda,sochaux etc would still meet with similar results.
