  4. 'Though the goals per appearance stat is fairly modest at around 1 in 4, it is slightly misleading given how often he came on as a sub. Perhaps a fairer stat is minutes per goal which in his case is 138. To put that in context, Vardy scored every 131 minutes in the league last season.' Interesting quote

  6. Hanley looks decent and he's Blackburns leader and captain, player of the year last year. Gomez started the season as Liverpools first choice left back keeping Moreno on the bench and then got a season long injury, it would be a loan deal Really good business imo
  7. I've been told Grant Hanley (Blackburn) and Gomez (Liverpool)
  8. Newcastle United have completed their third summer signing with the arrival of winger Matt Ritchie from AFC Bournemouth. The 26-year-old Scotland international has agreed a five-year deal at St. James' Park, and follows goalkeeper Matz Sels and striker Dwight Gayle to Tyneside. Ritchie spent three-and-a-half years at Bournemouth, making 142 appearances, scoring 31 goals and recording 29 assists. He helped the Cherries lift the League One and Championship titles, as well as playing a key role in establishing Bournemouth in the Premier League last season. Previously, Ritchie started his career at Portsmouth and spent time on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge, Notts County and Swindon Town, before joining the Robins permanently. "It's an unbelievable feeling to come to a football club like this," said Ritchie. "I loved it at Bournemouth - I had a fantastic time there and it had a huge impact on my career. But when a club like Newcastle comes calling, I couldn't pass up this opportunity. "It's fantastic to be here and I'm really looking forward to the challenge of getting the Club back in the Premier League." Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez said: "We have been following some wingers for a while and Matt was one of the best prospects for this team. "He has great ability and pace, and as soon as we knew that Andros Townsend could be leaving, our priority was to finalise this deal. "We have signed an exciting winger who has experience in the Championship but has also proved that he can step up to the top level. I am delighted that he is now part of our squad." Welcome to Newcastle!
  9. officialtownsendId like to put on record my sincerest thanks to the manager, board and fans of Newcastle United for the warmth and support they have shown me since I joined in January. Please believe me when I say that this has been an incredibly difficult decision and one I have not taken lightly. I signed for Newcastle fully aware of the task at hand and it was my absolute desire to keep the club in the Premier League. I hope the fans could see that from day one I gave everything I possibly could during the season and never once gave up on the fight for survival. Thats why it was so hard when despite those efforts we fell short. The future for Newcastle is very bright, with some great young players and an outstanding Manager who I have the utmost respect for. However, after talking at length with the Manager and Managing Director I have made the decision to leave the club based purely on footballing reasons, with my wish to remain in the Premier League. I remain humbled by the support of the fans during my time at Newcastle and wish everyone associated with the club success for the future. The fans deserve a winning team and I fully expect to see the club promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Thank You.
  10. Every Palace fan I've seen on twitter are pretty annoyed he's been sold with no replacement ready, they said he'll score for fun in the championship but he struggles to play up top on his own Rafa likes to play one up top so I guess he could be playing out wide, he might change his formation though
  11. Newcastle United have completed the signing of striker Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace Newcastle United have completed the signing of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old striker arrives at St. James' Park for an undisclosed fee and has put pen to paper on a five-year deal. Gayle began his professional career at Dagenham & Redbridge and spent time on loan at Bishop's Stortford and Peterborough United before joining the latter permanently in January 2013. However, just six months later Palace made their move for the front man in a then-club record switch, and Gayle spent three seasons at Selhurst Park, finishing as the Eagles' top scorer in each of them and featuring in the 2016 FA Cup final at Wembley. "It's a dream come true to be at a big club like this," said Gayle. "Newcastle has a massive fan base and a great history so it is amazing to be here. "I can't wait to get started, prove myself and score the goals that take us back up to the Premier League. It's where this Club belongs." Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez added: "Dwight is a great player, a proven goalscorer, and it is fantastic news that he has joined us. "He has a big personality, a lot of energy and pace. He is a good finisher also, so he will add goals to our squad, for sure. "He knows English football well, too, and that is important in the Championship. "I am sure Dwight will want to prove he can make a big difference to our team and I am looking forward to working with him." Welcome to Newcastle!
  12. Linked with Caulker, good signing if it happens?
  13. Despite what we think of Pardew, Townsend to Palace makes sense Bearing in mind too that Bolasie could be sold
  14. Really? There's a reason he and his agent put a release clause in his contract
  15. Definitely, great player. Im still not convinced he will come though
  16. Keith Downie from Sky Sports has confirmed he's on his way
  17. Been linked with Ritchie, reports on twitter think it's happening. Would be a class signing but it doesn't make much sense when he was one of Bournemouth better players last year
