  1. Would you take Dennis from Watford and Cornet off Burnley? We've supposedly been offered them, and they would be fairly cheap. Cornet has a 17.5m buyout clause for example, they're 24, and coming 26 in September respectively, so still young. On the one hand they'd probably present value, and both can play multiple attacking positions, but on the other they would perhaps be underwhelming moves in comparison to names like Asensio, Diaby etc. One thing is for certain, they would represent a vast improvement over the likes of Murphy, Gayle etc. You could probably buy Sarr off Watford as well and still get some change out of 70m for all three. Only problem being that all three represent African countries at international level, so come AFCON we'd be nobbled in the attacking third.
  2. In fairness his goal involvements are very impressive despite that, so perhaps he's an Andy Cole type, as in gets himself into position to score more times than most other strikers, but also misses a fair few. It tends to even out with strikers like that.
  3. Duvan Zapata, the Columbian centre forward from Atalanta that we were linked to in January, is supposedly available for 15m. Can't see it happening now, assuming we were ever even interested. He's 31 so I can't see us paying that for another striker the wrong side of thirty, and he's unlikely to want to come and play understudy, support to Wilson. I mean unless Howe changes formation, or puts Wilson wide right of a front three, he's more than capable of playing there. The question is what's Zapata's injury record like, how reliant is he on his pace, and how much if any has he lost given his age. They're not the profile of attackers we're presently looking for, but Paqueta and Zapata could actually work in terms of adding the goals we need with a bit of tactical tweaking.
  4. The Newcastle United Blog | This Player For £45M Would Really Get Newcastle Fans Buzzing - The Newcastle United Blog (nufcblog.com) Media Foot in France are reporting that we have an active 34m bid in for Paqueta. I suppose it's possible that we put an early bid in to test the waters, and then come in again later in the window if any movement happens either from Lyon or other clubs such as Arsenal coming in for him. Interestingly enough having looked at his info again he has played centre forward a fair few times in his career. Perhaps more as a false nine, but he could be an interesting choice for back up for Wilson when he needs a rest or is injured, if he truly is that versatile.

  6. I learned my lesson. No Johnny Big Balls from Ewerk this time 😐 Edit. Just clicked on the video and it takes you to the NUFC site version of the video instead of playing 😂
  7. Newcastle United - Newcastle United 5 Gateshead 1 (nufc.co.uk) The video highlights are down the bottom of the page.
  8. I literally said in the comment that he's well worth the reported fee. In any case people seem to think that it's most likely a case of Asensio's agent leaking to the media, and trying to get him a new Madrid contract, so it's all likely a moot point.
  9. Am I missing something about Asensio? His numbers don't seem all that impressive given he's been playing for arguably the top team in Spain, and one of the top teams in Europe. I know he's been in and out of the side, so perhaps he's been unable to build up some momentum. Then again if his transfer fee is what's being reported, as in 20-25m, then he's well worth the very marginal risk.
  10. Armando Broja’s stance on Newcastle move amid interest from West Ham, Everton & Southampton | NUFC blog – Newcastle United blog – NUFC Fixtures, News and Forum. The comment down the bottom from the West Ham fan, fucking hell 😂 Bish July 7, 2022 at 14:25 Not a chance. He wants to stay in London, and is open to coming to the London Stadium. Stop trying to nick WH-bound players, you’re becoming embarrassing. (Quote) Sharpy17 July 7, 2022 at 14:41 Bish – stop believing the media man. No every player is bound for WH – just like not ever player is bound for NUFC. We aren’t sat waiting to see who WH go for next – we couldn’t give a f@ck. Be hilarious if he came to SJP now though after your ‘he wants a London club claim’ – what part of London is Southampton again???
  11. Newcastle line up move for another Chelsea talent alongside Armando Broja - The Guardian | NUFC blog – Newcastle United blog – NUFC Fixtures, News and Forum.
  12. Chicken nonce was saying much the same, said that Everton are unlikely to sell a top young talent, and also said that if we fail with Diaby we might go back in for Harrison. I have to say Harrison seems just, or at least very close, as unlikely has Gordon from the selling clubs perspective.
  13. Arsenal tried 'huge intervention' to hijack Bayer Leverkusen transfer as Newcastle watched | Football | Sport | Express.co.uk Leverkusen have signed this Adam Hlozek kid, and he looks like he could be a replacement for Diaby given the positions he can play, and the positions Diaby has occupied for Leverkusen during his time there. Maybe I'm wrong. Not like I'm an expert on Leverkusen.
  14. Clutching at straws most likely, but perhaps this is a tactic from the club to try and make Leverkusen shift a little bit on their valuation of Diaby.
  15. Newcastle United submit £35m bid for Everton star Gordon - Sources (footballinsider247.com) Not sure about paying 35m on this kid if this report holds any truth. Then again I'm not a football scout, and haven't been closely following his performances and stats. Conte supposedly wanted to do a double deal with Everton and bring Gordon along with Richarlison, so it seems people of reputable reputation in the game see something in Gordon.
  16. https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2022/07/06/toon-target-left-out-of-pre-season-tour-player-to-push-for-move-after-interest-from-newcastle-everton-and-west-ham-report/ If these reports from Albania are true about Broja, then we could see some movement on him earlier than expected. It would be ideal if we could get him on loan early, and put everything we have in going after Diaby.
  17. PSG considering signing £43m star, Newcastle were interested - Romano (geordiebootboys.com) PSG have started talks for Scamacca. He'd be cheaper than DCL and most other decent options, unless we do get Broja on loan. But PSG can other more money and wages and are in the CL, so not much hope for us it would seem.
  18. 😂 He added another caveat by mentioning that if we get someone on loan it would free up money for Diaby. Basically he's done the same math we've done on us maybe getting Broja on loan.
  19. 😂 He is a complete tit but he's a decent coach to have seen Southampton to safety for the past few years, given how relatively tight they are with transfer funds, and just generally being a selling club. And then you just have to compare him to Merson etc.
  20. Well if Ashworth and Howe think he's worth it and actually go for him, I'll trust their judgement over my own layman, in comparison, knowledge. And in fairness it's people like Thomas Tuchel, Hasenhüttl etc, i.e. people of a high caliber football knowledge wise who are praising him. It's not Paul Merson, Andy Gray, monkey hands Keys etc.
  21. We could maybe get him on a loan with an obligation to buy. But in any case he'd surely get plenty of minutes as part of Howe trying to manage Wilson's time so that he isn't as plagued with injuries, and unfortunately Wilson likely will get injured for at least a handful of games regardless. Also I think I might be right in saying that he can play wide in a front three.
  22. I didn't catch much of Southampton myself, but numerous people in football have spoken very highly of his potential as a center forward given all his physical attributes. He's supposed to be very quick for someone of his size and strength, and very good technically. Plus as I was saying the other day if you look at his appearances he only started 22 games, the rest of his apps were 15 minutes or so here and there, and I've read Southampton fans saying that the number chances for their forwards really dried up second half of the season. So I think it's a case of if you can sand off the rough edges, there's very likely a top level striker in there.
