Apparently he was a favourite of Tuchel when he was PSG coach. It was only when Poch came in that he fell out of favour. -

Yeah maybe it is just another stage of negotiation in his mind, but I'd rather we didn't blink first. There are other players we can get who will improve our defence enough for us to stay up. Even getting Guimaraes, knock on wood it's completed, will take a lot of pressure off our backline. -

https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2022/01/27/new-diego-carlos-hint-arrives-from-sevilla-as-transfer-chief-breaks-silence-on-nufcs-bid/ The Sevilla sporting director has basically said that they're likely to accept the bid we made in the summer, but not now. I suppose it's understandable given they aren't far off the top of the league at the minute. I can't see us bringing in a big money centre back now, we'll perhaps get a Burn, Philips or both who could then become part of the squad should we go back in for our first choices of Botman and Carlos in the summer. -

As you say, it's circle jerk propaganda, if that isn't too strong a word to use for slights against our club 😂, that they create and then use as supposed evidence of us being delusional. -

There's supposedly a medical booked in for Friday, because he has an international for Brazil to play before then, so it's not 100% until the medical is done and everything is signed off, but it's looking good. -

Newcastle have made €20m offer for defender - Agents in 'north of England to try and close deal' - Sport Witness L’Equipe are reporting that Mitchel Bakker's agents are in Newcastle trying to finalise a deal. Chicken boy said that this deal definitely wasn't happening, so it would be amusing if he's proven wrong. -

Yeah Romano said that the bid was accepted, but that there were a few things left to be signed off on before a medical could take place. That's likely where the confusion is coming from. Hopefully I'm correct, but it seems as if it's more or less done. -

It would be some window if manage to get Guimares and Nunez. -

Burn is from Northumberland and grew up supporting Newcastle, so while not fancy it could be a decent signing if it happens. As Gary Neville was saying about himself, players who might be somewhat limited compared to others, can get to their level or exceed it if they have a true passion for the club. He was saying that him and a few others at Man U stayed on longer than perhaps their raw talent deserved. but Fergie could see the value in their commitment. -

He has better athleticism than a POW who's been locked up for ten years, so he'll be a major upgrade in our midfield. 😉 -

From what I've read he's a deep lying playmaker who's great defensively as well, so basically he's a major upgrade on what Shelvey has been trying to do for us, albeit Shelvey has worked his socks off since Howe came. -

The club released a social media post, or maybe it was Fede himself, about two weeks ago saying he was close to being back. Unless he has a set back he should be close to being fully fit for the Everton game. -

https://www.nufcblog.co.uk/2022/01/26/17m-deal-offered-to-nufc-as-carlos-alternative-player-represented-by-same-agency-as-joelinton-report/ This Hungarian CB's name keeps popping up. Didn't watch him at Euro 2020, but apparently he was very good in that tournament. He's left footed so fits the bill in that regard given Howe is looking for one. Him and Phillips off Liverpool for 30/35 million could be decent. Better than overpaying for Carlos who's turning 29 soon. -
FA given Permission to speak to Roy Hodgson over England job

Hodgson's brand of football isn't pretty, but it's definitely effective. If he manages to get in a few astute defensive signings we should be worried about his ability to organise a team. -

Newcastle United join transfer race for Nottingham Forest star as ‘bid increased’ - Nottinghamshire Live (nottinghampost.com) We're supposedly competing with Brentford for a young Welsh attacking mid off Forest. Wales have produced at least a handful of very good players over the last couple of decades, so Johnson could potentially be another Ramsey or Bale. -

Guimaraes's reps refused to comment when asked if their client would be interested in a move to us. So one way of interpreting silence is that there's something in it and he's interested, because the normal response if a move was out of the question would be a quick not interested. Of course Guimaraes could just be using us to push the other clubs interested in him to act.
