1. On a positive note, David Nugent played for Preston yesterday, 6 weeks & 5 days after breaking a metatarsal. Hopefully Rooney can take encouragement from that.
2. He's played on the left of the 'diamond' for England in the past too.
3. Has the Zog signed this new contract then?
4. How about this: -------------Robinson Neville--Terry--Ferdinand--A.Cole Beckham-Carrick-Lampard-J.Cole -------------Gerrard --------------Owen allowing us to accomodated Gerrard & Lampard plus a holding midfielder. Remember Gerrard providing many a through ball for Owen to run onto in the past. For what its worth I'd take Owen, Rooney, Defoe and Crouch. I like Ashton and Beattie but I think by fannying around in the friendlies so much Sven has left it too late to work them into the squad.
5. Splitting my time between DIY and seeing whats going on on here.
6. More magic from Oliver in today's Chronicle: "To be fair, United probably did not deserve the win which would have kept their European hopes alive and, as a result, those hopes are now hanging by the proverbial knife edge." "Hanging by the proverbial knife edge"? Get your proverbs in order, you sad excuse of a journalist. 130155
7. Pleased for him. He was your only out-field player not to have scored this season up until today wasn't he? (and my mum knows his mum).
8. Sven has spoken with Rooney and says he will be taking him if there is any chance of him playing in the later rounds.
9. Not like a scouser to wallow in self-pity (I'm safe, Renton's not here).
10. What are the odds on boro winning the uefa? I might be tempted to try this 'softening the blow' approach.
11. It's more than three: A.Cole, S.Campbell, L.King, W.Rooney, M.Owen are all going to be suspect/lacking games. Thats a quarter of the outfield squad. Sven has some serious thinking to do.
12. Jimbo often has jellyfish in his bath...
13. I like the idea of bringing SWP & Crouch on with 20 minutes to go. Anyone that quick and direct terrifies defenders (especially late in a game when they might be tired or on a yellow) and we've seen that South American defences haven't got a clue about what to do against Crouch.
14. egggfookinsactly. Just played for the first time in a while and its not 100%, Im sure it wouldnt feel perfect. 129742 It's the bit in bold that worries me, that sounds like more than an ache caused by playing on it for the first time.
15. Remember when Beckham did his before the last World Cup? He was rushed back and was a timid, lethargic husk of the player who'd beat Greece almost single-handed in the qualifiers.
16. Good point made on MotD: when Rooney did his metatarsal in Portugal2004 he took three and a half months to recover. Think we've got to get on without him.
17. Touch and go. Wouldn't happen if they wore proper boots instead of the glorified slippers favoured today. EDIT: I'm a pessimist but I don't don't think he will make it (its taken Owen four months to recover) and if he does he's not likely to be firing on all cylinders straigh away.
18. You've got to be in it to win it, my haggis-loving friend.
19. Neither are Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Defoe and Bent tbh 129732 Who's in Scotlands group for the World Cup then Sima?
20. Agree with Pud. He should be imprisoned to protect him from himself. If that protects others, all the better.
