Can I ask you a question which is probably a bit personal. Are you a millionaire yet?
-
I've got a business card now as it happens, but I feel like a pretencious cunt when I give it out, which isn't very often.
-
Cheers. Aye, me mates who haven't got them have been like flies roond shite for the games he's been in hospital like! Apparently he'll likely be in 10 days, and he missed the Man Utd game, but could hear the roars from the RVI which made it more frustrating. He was there as a little laddie when we won the FA Cup in 1955.

Cheers fellas, I know most the people on here haven't met each other but there's some good people on here, and you find out at times like these. In fact I can't think of anyone I really don't like. We all piss and shite the same, and we all feel happy sometimes and down in the dumps sometimes, and it's nice to see people showing genuine concern, thanks a lot.

Aye I know I should just get on with it, the only thing that stops me is it's the type of industry where you can go 3 months billing fuck all, then the next 3 month doing 40k. I'm going to brave it I think probably be the best thing I ever do. Mate, it's the main thing you sacrifice when you move away from a salaried post-the certainty of what lands in your account each month. At the same time, it's one of the main reasons you move away from it to start with; the uncertainty (ie opportunity to do better off your own endeavours alone). That and the overall freedom. Can tell you feel like you've got the confidence to do it so go for it. If you think you'll end up getting resentful if you don't do it or keep putting it off, I think that alone is a good enough reason as long as you dont have dependents. I don't have any kids yet, but we think that'll change in the next 2 to 3 years, and that's another reason for doing it now because my toe will have firmly been in the water by say 2015. I've got a decent amount of money behind me should it go tits up anyway, and I know people in London who would take me with open arms. I've just had an offer today to work for my old manager commission only, which I'd consider for 75% but he's saying 50%. I called him a greedy cunt!

Thanks a lot mate.

Very strange mood. A lot going on as you can see from the starting your own business thread. My lass got another call off my southern stalker at work, but it's like water off a ducks back now, and obviously considering lots of different possibilities about my future career direction. Most importantly though me dad has his operation to remove the cancer today, so me heeds like a tumble drier at the minute. Has been for weeks to be honest.

Football related one this but I didn't know this till I was browsing wiki the other day. When Luis Suarez was playing for Ajax, Albert Luque chinned him in the dressing at half time in a game against Feyenoord, I forgot Luque even played for them.

Thanks. This calendar I'll have made maybe 38-39k in salary. The reason I need to do this is, I've made 81k in that period. There is nothing my company have that I don't have that would stop me from achieving that. You're right regarding stress and hassle, but I get enough now, and I know for a fact I wouldn't fail, I may not be as successful as I hope but I'd at least match what I'm on even if it's catastrophic. It's not like I'm selling anything, I'm providing a service to a lot of people who like me (believe it or not) people I've nurtured relationships with over 5 years of doing this job. It's not like I'm opening a shop.

Because I'm a mug. It's been a very interesting morning, I've had an ex boss testing the water with me with some interesting proposals to say the least. It's almost like he's reading this fucking thread! I'm happy at the moment, got a lot of decisions to make.
-
My boss owns it, but if and when I do this, I have enough people who will be loyal to me in terms of clients. Officially though if I do leave I can't work that market for 6 months, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I can live on 30k a year, and that was my intention for the first two years, and hopefully I'll have 100k plus tied up in the business saved in 2 years time.

You have the ideal characteristics to go it alone. Do it and you won't look back. Means throwing everything into it, but it really is fun. I've travelled the world at others expense and developed 10 fold as a person. It rubs off onto other aspects of your life and what you thing is achievable. The easiest thing is to make yourself a dir and pay yourself as you need it. In Eng its pretty relaxed scenario as a Ltd. My turnover in the first couple of years was about 200 to 250k. Get a company bank account (a basic one which you can op from the internet with a couple of clicks). Make the accountant the secretary and get someone who you respect the chairman (he can vote too if it comes to it and he can stop you doing silly things). There will be grants available in your area if you employ just one person...Look into that. Get a cushty website knocked up by someone on here but make it snazzy as that is part of your profile. Pay yourself in such a way that the Ltd don't show profits... I would bet money you wil succeed. If you need any more advice, just pm me. Thanks for that Parky, I was considering paying myself a wage from the business rather than just taking the lot. My plans are very much in their infancy so any advice is gratefully accepted. I definitely need a website like, could probably get one up and running for £250 eh? I think Ant does them.

Absolutely. Knowledge of the industry is absolutely everything, reading the trade journals, understanding clients, down to the fact the MD is a mug and they operate a revolving door policy, understanding the projects they have on, and matching that up with new candidates, who need to be 100% spot on for the clients needs, and it's a lot more difficult than it sounds. It's a job not everybody could do, even when you're feeling shit and can't be arsed you have to be on a charm offensive the whole time, which obviously I find difficult sometimes.

Yes but we fell out and I don't want to speak to him. I know they're doing OK though, there's two of them started together. Shinton would be able to help me but he's never fucking here! Cheers Gemmill I'll give them a ring.

Mugrighting Consultancy doesn't sound right
-
Aye, same here. Thanks. Do you think I could put my two season tickets in me tax for Corporate Entertainment by the way?
-
Aye I've heard that about accountants like, and they're not all that expensive? 250-300 quid a year? I need to have a word with Shinton about this as well.
-
Cheers fella. I'll have an hours gander of that tonight. Jaw D owns his own business, does anybody else? CT I suppose does in a way because he'll be paying (or fiddling ) his own tax too.
-
Cheers Even in a shit shit year I'll make 40k that is the worst case scenario, been thinking about it for a few years now, it's just being brave enough to do it.
-
What did you include in the business plan you wrote?
-
What makes you think that? I only need 5k to get it off the ground like, I've got it but if the government want to help me I won't say no.
