It was the wealthiest commercial port in the world. In the same way our industrial wealth was built up on shipbuilding, theirs was on maritime trade. As for your query it was built in Belfast and sailed from Southampton but it was owned by the White Star Line who were based in Liverpool. It was up to them to register the vessel so that is why its home port was asssigned as Liverpool. Some of, the minority on this board, dont totally agree with that viewpoint. We have looked silly for quite a few years paying mega wages to the useless Mark Vidukas and Alan Smiths of this world and many many more.
