Ballack for Germany is head and shoulders above Gerrard for England though. And that's the key to it overall for me. Better individuals don't always make the best team, as both England and Germany have shown over the years. Ballack one free kick aside hasn't had the best impact on this side in this tournament. The only thing that has held Gerrard back in international football is Frank Lampard, Gerrard was better alongside Scholes who has twice the brain Lampard has. I think Ballack's been pretty influential for Germany. He had a big impact in 2002 too, although less so two years ago. And I agree to an extent about Gerrard although Lampard has suffered in the same way due to them being too similar (in their role anyway). I think Gerrard is a better player though. That was his good season. He came close to winning the Kraut League, Cup and CL and ended up second in all three but he shone in that team. Since then what has been his telling contribution? Germany didn't even get a win in Euro 2004 including a 0-0 draw with Latvia, and as Hansen pointed out in 2006 they were mediocre and stumbled in to the semi's where they were beaten by an equally mediocre Italy. :icon_lol: :angry:

That would explain why they are in the final of a tournament that your 11 couldn`t even qualify for! I think only about 4 English players would make the German team. Added to that, they don`t have a winning mentality like the Germans do.
