He is and thats not good. He is 21 and should be playing alongside a seasoned pro who would be helping him develop his game. As it is its hard to see how he will get that development.

I rate him as a good young prospect (as I did when I saw him at that reserves match, remember ) As yet I dont think he compares anywhere close to the players I have mentioned above. I think he does some things well now, but to be Englands no 1 or compare with the Newcastle strikers of the past, he needs to start scoring different types of goals such as screamers from outside the box, runs into the box with a goal at the end of it, etc etc. I dont think Im saying anything bizzare tbf

Compared to good newcastle strikers such as Shearer, Ferdinand, Andy Cole etc is what I said. Again, doesnt mean he wont become as good in time.

After a bads night sleep I am going to write last night off mainly due to the team being physically shagged after a very hard fought battle against Arsenal. They battled like warriors on Sunday and ran themselves ragged and it showed last night. Unfortunately we havent got the attacking options for a plan B

Ahem, ahem Lets not re-write history.... I never said I didnt rate him, just that the englands no 1 patter is over the top and he is nowhere near as good YET as a lot of the strikers I have enjoyed watching over the last 25 years.

I thought his set pieces were generally poor but he had a canny game. It's hard when your chasing a match after 2 mins against a 10 man defence so a lot of his first half work was a bit rushed by trying to force things but he was comfortably our best midfielder for me. His game is also the sort of game that looks worse if others in the team are having such an off night as they did last night.

Think we'd all rather have him than not, just pissed off because we thought hoped he got that side of his game under control. It's also worth noting he had just helped get us back into the game so even more stupid risking a sending off at that point in the match. So it would have got a straight red, is that a 3 match ban? Bad enough losing our best player for one never mind 3. Fucking idiot.

But there's been no shot goals from outside the box, no runs and goals from outside the box, it's all being about headers and knock downs. When you are talking England or good newcastle strikers you have to think of the Shearers ferdinands, andy cole, lineker etc etc. I just don't think he is anywhere near any of them. Hopefully it will come but I don't see a lot yet to suggest he's not just going to be a Carew or that ilk. When did Lineker or Andy Cole ever score from outside the box?
