Although under public ownership it was run more like a franchise with no change to staff wages etc. Also during that period it was free from having to invest in rolling stock / infrastructure. Then add to this the fact that people think fares will be cheaper. Goodbye profits. I have nothing against the idea from a dogma point of view only the evidence of history of how badly all UK governments run and funded these companies in the past.

Where nothing like Germany and would be even less so under a socialist government.

Basically due to the points I listed they wouldn’t make any profits. It also becomes too tempting for MP’s to solve an NHS / School crisis than decide to plan ahead and renew gas pipes etc. Southern seems to be a basket case.

Just don’t understand this one. Most nationalised industries were shit. Re-nationalising would see massive hikes in pay as the staff became public sector workers, more strikes due to much bigger union input and a return to under investment as these new nationalised industries had to compete with the NHS etc for money.

Worst bit was when she drank too much water and it came back out her mouth. I also thought when she popped a cough sweet that it would either be spat in unintentionally or lodge in her throat leading to scenes of Boris on stage performing the heimlich manoeuvre.

Poor Theresa. That speech will keep GIF makers busy for months.

Sorry, just what the body representing the “international banks based in the city of London” says.

Fucking hell:lol: You told me to “go and research it” and then cry because I did.

Based purely on Mark Charley’s interview last week. He was basically saying that slight increases would be a sign of the economy starting to return to normal (following the crash) which would be overall a good thing with regard to investment in the UK, the pound and inflation. Im not going to get into an economics theory argument with anyone as to whether he’s right or not. Well above my pay grade

Apparently Hogan Lovells and the civil service are all over this like a rash. General opinion seems to be that if “mutual access” isn’t tied up, it will be the EU and UK who lose out to New York and Singapore.

1. There’s plenty of EU associate deals of different arrangements already in place (feel free to research them). This has already been suggested as the likely solution from the EU. 2. As for the WTO, this really is a minor surmountable issue as detailed here. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/business-38658025 3. Third country deals. We could easily combine the EU’s 3rd party deals in our associate agreement if we wanted, however it may well be that we prefer to do our own. Remember, we are one of the worlds biggest economies and virtually everyone, particularly in the fast growing economies are desperate to deal with us.

1. The way in which you have used freedom of movement won’t change, nor will your ability to move abroad. 2. The treasury said a lot of things that have already been shown to be false / scare stories. Its pretty self evident that as soon as we move on to stage 2 of the negotiations (along with interest rates starting to rise next month), then our economy will rise pretty quickly.

So let’s assume that an EU associate deal is tied up and we continue to have free access to the SM and the chaps that are paid the big bucks sort out the customs issues etc. What negatives of Brexit will effect you? The positives are clear. We will be able to set up free trade deals around the world, we’ll be a more democratic country and will have an immigration policy that works best for the economy and the workforce. I struggle to see how YOUR day to day existence will be worse?

Absolute tosh and you know it is. Most media outlets report news in a slant that fits with their views or that of its readers. Whether that’s left leaning or right leaning or pro eu or anti eu. exactly the same in our EU thread where numerous negative news has been linked but zero positive news.

May to announce massive council house building program tomorrow.

you patronising twat. We will most likely end up in a new EU associate agreement. These have been used many times already with various countries on various terms. They are pretty straightforward to set up (compared to a free trade deal) and have already been discussed on both sides of channel. Ireland will more than likely end up with some sort of special status. Once the money is agreed this will all fall into place very quickly. In fact I predict that buy Jan / Feb next year the negotiation atmosphere will have totally changed for the better. uncertainty will subside, the economy will boom and you’ll wonder why we didn’t do this years ago.
-
I wouldn’t worry about Johnson, he’ll be gone tomorrow after his latest “dead bodies” remarks.
-
Well that’s where we differ. I believe we’ll end up with what I’ve stated without the extras you’ve added in. The bottom line remains that ending up with free trade is the logical best outcome for both parties. As is making that trade as easy as possible. We’ll still end up paying for things we want to be part of (euratom ?? Etc) and maybe free movement of workers. I’m sure there may be a few other compromises but at the end of it all I think the average Joe won’t tell the difference, except we’ll be a more global, more successful economy.

He was right. A lot of them are not scrutinising policy but are simply fishing out any story that is anti Brexit. Same as happens on here and obviously what they / you are going to do from an anti Brexit viewpoint.

First of all, 7 people on here voted to leave. As for JRM speech (which I haven’t watched but get the jist from what you’ve said), simply seems the sort of stuff you get at most party conferences in fringe meetings. As for the people negotiating the deal, they are only interested in facts a figures, not what some (non ministerial), MP says. This is where I’m at with Brexit. If you strip away the social media faux rage, most normal people will be happy for a deal to be completed that doesn’t harm them, allows the country to continue to prosper and let’s all politicians get back to focussing on domestic policy. I firmly believe we will end up with a deal that allows free access to the SM, gets round the customs issues and allows us to do our own FTS’s with the rest of the world. This will be good for us and good for the EU allowing them to crack on with their tighter union with the UK constantly holding them back. I would then like some cross party support or a Royal Commission to finally sort out how we deal / fund the NHS and social care and stop it being a political football. Obviously some of you come from a viewpoint that we won’t get a deal and it’s all going to fall apart. There’s no point arguing against that because you won’t change your view until it becomes apparent. The greatest danger, as highlighted well this week, is letting John McDonnel anywhere near the treasury. What we really need right now is a very good centre left government but that battles been lost, for now.

This week in my taxi I’ve found a coat hanger and half full bottle of shower gel.

You do know that’s an old joke?

Tim Shipman. Reckons she's 16-1 with Hills and we should be all over it.
