Nice wiggle but that’s not what we were discussing Standard of living > Average working man > pre Thatcher compared to now. Fuck me I’d forgotten how slippery this place gets when an argument is on the line I’m outa this one

Hes not. I’m comparing the average working mans standard of living from the 70’s to now. Virtually doubled by every measure going. As for your general point that’s the free market for you and it’s not going to change. Surely though, some future uk government would have more chance of achieving your “goal” outside of a massive free market?
-
Yep, seems every western member of society understands this but Renton.
-
I did. Nothing in there to dispute that std of living is better now than 70’s. if your point is we are doing so well because of the EU, that’s fine, but not the discussion I was having with Rent boy.
-
Oh the old wummary / incensed fallback. Check any official facts on stds of living now compared to the 70’s and learn something or stick with your fallback faux rage. Virtually double bled for the poorest families compared to the 70’s https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/personalandhouseholdfinances/incomeandwealth/bulletins/householddisposableincomeandinequality/financialyearending2015

That seems a good piece on free trade being good. Not sure what it has to do with my comment on std of living???
-
Stop being a drama queen, of course the average working class man has a much better std of living compared to the 70’s. Many a working class bloke these days can afford a foreign holiday, stag do’s abroad, a car, meals out, plays golf, gym membership etc etc. Not to forget life expectancy has increased by 10 years. You’re just being silly for the sake of an argument.
-
Give over man, compare your average working mans lifestyle in the 70’s to what that of today. No comparison. whether it’s overseas holidays, car ownership, eating out etc etc. Silly to argue otherwise.

So we can agree if nothing else, it’s........... BAU

@Renton More good Brexit news. Hot on the heels of BMW choosing the UK to build the electric mini here, Toyota announce today that they have decided to build their new model here.
-
Well we are never going to agree on this. Whatever needs fixing the answer isn’t John McDonnel. I also don’t think the social ills of the country are quite as bad as some people make out. Virtually everyone has a better standard of living than pre Thatcher and the free markets has lifted millions out of poverty around the world. The problems in this country are caused by low productivity (caused by decades of under investment) and short term political thinking. (Not building enough council houses, not addressing problems like NHS / Social care / pensions etc). It requires strong centre ground politics, longer term planning and not some Venezuelan type fantasy politics.

How they slant the data is fine, but the data, complied by the well respected NERA is unquestionable. Feel free to highlight any figures that are incorrect. I mean this stuff is not weird, it’s been tried, proved and tested for decades by Conservative, Labour and most of the world. What’s weird is thinking Corbyn is right

you talk some Bollocks.

Of course

I gave you lots yesterday regarding how the world is continuing to choose the UK for inward investment into Europe, but you keep weeding out negatives if it pleases you. It will soon become clear which way the negotiations are going after Christmas.
-
My daughters boyfriend has recently been through this shit (short notice interviews). If it’s a good opportunity you have to take the sicky and go for it.

Dear Lord youre quoting year old articles hinting at us having to give up the Falklands and Gibralter. There are lots of deals and negotiations going on and various people staking out positions. Tbh, your hysteria now reminds me of the similar hysteria in 2010/11 when you were adamant the Tory plans were going to lead to millions more unemployed. Lots of bad news stories were copied and pasted but the opposite happened. Millions of jobs were created leading record employment. Yet again you are grabbing at tit bits of bargaining points in trade talks and he said she said stuff. We are still the number one destination for inward European investment and achieved record levels over the last 12 months. We are one of the worlds biggest economies and all the world wants to sell into us. I hope you don’t play poker.

I think you have rose tinted glasses on If yount be bothered to read (which I strongly suggest), skip down to the conclusion. http://www.cps.org.uk/publications/the-performance-of-privatisation-vol-ii-privatisation-and-its-effect-on-the-exchequer/#

It was more of a remark about why someone who uses it would probably feel more inclined to the promised land of privatisation.
