There will be down time tonight from around midnight as we finally get round to changing the server over (yeah yeah we know it was supposed to happen a couple of weeks ago ). So if you could a) arrange to do something else from midnight (maybe have one off the wrist, speak to the missus/ hubby/ same sex partner, go to bed or do all three). Check your PM boxes and remove any messages you dont need (just to help with the tidy up). That'd be grand like Oh and ideally kill off your cookies and log in again from scratch tomorrow, thats probably not important but may resolve any possible cookie problems.

Four NHS workers have been sacked in Newcastle after using hospital computers to view pornographic images. The disciplinary hearings followed the suspension of nine staff in the summer, after an investigation by the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is believed to centre around the graphic image of an elderly woman, taken from a foreign website. Hospital bosses say the inquiry is ongoing and warn that further disciplinary action is a possibility. The trust manages Newcastle's Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary. A spokeswoman said: "Nine staff were suspended as a consequence of information technology electronic surveillance systems showing cause for concern in respect of unacceptable images and text being received and then conveyed via e-mailing. "To date four staff have been dismissed following disciplinary hearings, the investigation is continuing and further disciplinary action does appear to be an inevitable consequence." She added: "The trust has a zero tolerance policy in relation to obscene and related material that is considered offensive and inappropriate in a healthcare setting." Now Im guessing here but it reads as if someone sent out a jokey email containing a pic (possibly that one with the wrinkly old wife on it) and now loads of them have lost their jobs. In the current climate of NHS constraints and lack of funds I wonder just how much has been spent on carrying out this investigation then the added costs of suspending these people from work on full pay while the investigation goes on. Lunacy tbh

Its irrelevant who he played for, he was a human being who was employed in the business that brings us all here and provides us with some of our happiest/funniest/saddest moments and allows us to escape the norm for 90 minutes every week or so. Without the likes of Porterfield etc we'd all be sitting on the knitting forum or something equally boring so show some respect. If you have no interest in showing your respects then stay the hell out of the thread, nobody expects you to wax lyrically about how much you loved watching a player if you didnt. Just dont bother posting at all in it. Its football, just a game. Yes we go on about it like its life itself but it isnt, we may go on as if we dont like our neighbours and they do the same but at the end of the day its banter. The death of a footballer (especially one with such an important place in the history of the FA Cup) is a sad moment regardless of the club or era. At some stage in the future an ex toon player will go and RTG will do the same, its called respect. RIP Ian

3 year old girl gone missing in portugal
peasepud replied to Smooth Operator's topic in General Chat
The big question now though is whether they can use the money raised to find her for their legal bills. Theres no way this should be used for that and frankly they shouldnt even be contemplating it. People raised that to help find a missing child and as far as the McCanns are concerned that search should be ongoing and therefore the money is needed for that. To use it to defend themselves is totally wrong imo -

A 1,000-year-old Viking longship is thought to have been discovered under a pub car park on Merseyside. The vessel is believed to lie beneath 6ft to 10ft (2m to 3m) of clay by the Railway Inn in Meols, Wirral, where Vikings are known to have settled. Experts believe the ship could be one of Britain's most significant archaeological finds. Professor Stephen Harding, of the University of Nottingham, is now seeking funds to pay for an excavation. The Viking expert used ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment to pinpoint the ship's whereabouts. He believes the vessel could be carefully removed and exhibited in a museum. Professor Harding said: "The next stage is the big one. Using the GPR technique only cost £450, but we have to think carefully about what to do next. "Although we still don't know what sort of vessel it is, it's very old for sure and its Nordic clinker design, position and location suggests it may be a transport vessel from the Viking settlement period if not long afterwards. "Scandinavian influence persisted here through the centuries. It is speculation at the moment, but at least we now know exactly where to look to find out. How it got there is also hard to say. It is some distance from the present coastline and probably the old one too. It might have got to its present position after flooding and sinking into an old marsh or its likely that a couple of local scallies robbed it and buried it under the carpark until the heat died down." The ship was first uncovered in 1938 when the Railway Inn was being knocked down and rebuilt further from the road, the site of the old pub being made into a car park. Workers were advised by the foreman to cover the ship over again so as not to delay construction. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/6986986.stm

STEVEN TAYLOR has turned down a new five-year contract
peasepud replied to Sever07's topic in Newcastle Forum
Shearer loved the club, his contract still stipulated he had to be the best paid player at the club... We have no idea what he's been offered so how can you possibly say that he should accept it? He's rejected this round of talks, it's hardly like he's rejected the contract and stormed off in a huff is it? This smacks of people wanting to feel indignant about something, anything and this story will suffice. We have no idea what he's been offered, no idea what he's asked for, no idea what the clauses and stipulations were, no idea the breakdown of the contract what-so-ever. I really don't think we should lose our heads over something as inconsequential as one round of contract talks when the player has another couple of years to go on his original. you lot are a right bunch of drama queens I believe Taylor should be paid a wage comparable to that of his peers ie Zog and Milner etc and more than the likes of Donkey Carr (ideally 50 times more but gained by dropping Carrs wage not raising Taylors). I dont believe he should sign any contract we offer just because he loves the club and I dont believe the club should use his loyalty as a stick to beat him with. At the same time though I believe he should have enough media savvy to stop his fatha shouting the odds and slagging the club off after receiving their first offer.
