IF you're lucky enough to be part of the sell-out crowd at St. James' Park for Alan Shearer's Testimonial then you know a wonderful night is in store as Gallowgate says goodbye to its greatest-ever goalscorer. Big Al's Newcastle United Select XI host Scottish champions Glasgow Celtic and the Geordie hero will kick off the match in his beloved black and white stripes. Here's how the night will run: 6.15pm: Turnstiles open 7.05pm: Players warm-up 7.35pm: Keedie performs Nessun Dorma (we would request supporters to be in their seats at this time). 7.40pm: Teams enter the pitch. When Alan emerges from the tunnel if you are sitting in the North, South and East Stands please hold your seat card above your head with the plain side facing towards the pitch to create a spectacular effect. 7.45pm: Kick-off 8.30pm: Half-time penalty competition - England v Scotland 8.45pm: Second-half. 9.30pm: Full-time Following the final whistle there will be an interview with Alan and a number of presentations all hosted by Ant & Dec. Jean-Alain Boumsong has rejected talk of a summer departure and in the process committed his long-term future to Newcastle. The 26-year-old Frenchman has not enjoyed the best of times since arriving in the North East from Rangers and has in recent weeks been linked with a return to his homeland. Towards the close of the season Newcastle's caretaker boss Glenn Roeder relegated Boumsong to the bench and with the former West Ham chief set to be handed the reins on a permanent basis on Monday, speculation has been rife that the defender could be on this way. Boumsong, though, does not share the same view and has now pledged to fight for his first team place and establish himself as a key player at St James' Park. ''This season, I have not achieved my aims,'' he told L'Equipe. ''But the year has been very important to me. ''It was very difficult to endure. Now I hope to be happy and have fun, and it can still be the case at Newcastle. ''This club has a huge potential, but it should develop it with good people. ''I still have four years remaining on my contract. I have no desire to leave, I am just looking for stability.'' While Boumsong admits he has yet to show the Toon faithful his true capabilities, what he cannot accept is the plethora of criticism that has been levelled in his direction. The imposing stopper believes the level of attacks have reached ridiculous levels but is hopeful that these hurtful words will only make him stronger. ''I have been much criticised, but I didn't give up, despite the exaggerated attacks,'' he continued. ''It was incredible being hounded like this! People from football wanted to hurt me. ''I can accept critics, but you cannot put all the failure on one man. I believe it is disgusting and unfair. ''But it will help me in my career and my life. Now I am stronger, and nothing can affect me anymore. ''That also allowed me to understand some things about the club, football and the unpredictable nature of human beings. ''In a way, I thank my detractors, they forced me to question myself and improve. They didn't kill me.''

It might be a good for us if Shearer becomes part of the coaching team now that it appears Roeder is getting the job. It became clear that he had much influence in persuading Parker, Owen and Solano to sign. If by remaining at the club in some capacity he can continue to attract players then perhaps it would not be a bad thing.

We just need to find out how early those who are having to travel can get there...

Titus Bramble has celebrated his match-winning goal against Chelsea and Newcastle United's return to Europe by revealing that he has never been happier on Tyneside. Bramble's outstanding central defensive partnership with Craig Moore - the duo have helped keep three consecutive clean sheets in their last three games - has been the building block upon which the Magpies' late push for Intertoto Cup qualification was built. The former England Under-21 international has matured considerably both on and off the pitch, first under the strict discipline of Graeme Souness and, more recently, under the confidence inspiring guidance of Glenn Roeder. And Bramble, who endured some horrendous personal criticism early on in his Newcastle career, is relishing the opportunity to prove exactly why former manager Sir Bobby Robson was willing to gamble £5m on his potential when he signed him from Ipswich Town in 2002. "I'm really enjoying my football, I didn't want the season to come to an end," said Bramble, whose scintillating second-half volley against Chelsea last weekend was enough to secure a seventh place finish and qualification for next season's Intertoto Cup. "In fact, this is the happiest I've ever been at Newcastle. It's been a gradual process, but I think the fans have seen the improvement. It bodes really well for next season and hopefully I can pick up where I've left off this season. "There is a buzz about the place again. We're going to have to come back early for pre-season because of the Intertoto Cup, but we don't mind. We want to be in Europe next season, it's where a club like Newcastle deserves to be, it's where the fans deserve to be and it's where the players want to be. "Like all Newcastle defenders, I've had my critics, some would say more than my fair share, but it's encouraging those people are now willing to praise me as well. That's all you ask for, if you play badly you have to expect to be criticised, but if you play well, you should be praised and I've not always felt that has been the case as a Newcastle player. "I wouldn't say I've been inspired by the problems I've had in the past, but I'm more focused now and it's been very satisfying to have people saying complimentary things about me." Bramble's goal against the Premiership champions was his second of the season, but the powerful centre-half is adamant he should be contributing even more to the side. He added: "Getting that goal against Chelsea, I think everybody could see how much it meant to me. I probably don't score enough goals and next year I'm going to set myself a target of between six and eight for the season." Meanwhile, United will have a good indication as to whether they will be able to appoint Roeder as permanent manager, despite his failure to hold the Uefa Pro Licence, in the next 24 hours. The Premier League expect to receive the results of a postal ballot of the 20 Premiership chairmen today and, if the indications are the necessary two-thirds are willing to allow Roeder to take the job, it will be ratified at the Premier League AGM on June 2.

Maybe it isn't Roeder. They seem to go to great effort to point out they could appoint him, without saying they will. Seems very odd to even release the statement if it confirms nothing. 134287[/snapback] Thats what has left me wondering, also if it was Roeder why do we have to wait until Monday? Why not do it today and present him to the supporters tomorrow evening?

You should just play for a laugh, at the end of the day you cannot be any worse than JJ (Jody) was...
