  4. Well this is a busy thread...hi guys
  5. Mike Ashley returns from a business trip to the Far East today with the aim of providing impetus to Newcastle United’s search for a new manager. Mark Hughes is one of the leading candidates to succeed Sam Allardyce, but having endured the public embarrassment of Harry Redknapp’s decision to remain at Portsmouth, there is a determination within St James’ Park to avoid more of the same. John Williams, the Blackburn Rovers chairman, insisted last night that Newcastle’s interest in Hughes was yet to crystallise. “We have not received any approach from Newcastle United for Mark Hughes,” he said. “We have had no contact from Newcastle whatsoever. He is doing a great job here and we obviously want to keep him. We are chasing a Champions League place, so why would he want to leave?” Chris Mort was not at his desk on Tyneside yesterday as Kevin Keegan moved into position as favourite for the job on the betting exchanges. The Newcastle chairman continued to hold talks with other individuals on his shortlist and their representatives. Mort wishes the process to be as broad as possible and as lengthy as required, but the proximity of Ashley, the club’s billionaire owner, will add substance to those negotiations. “The process is still very much ongoing,” a source at the club said. “They are meeting people on the shortlist and only after meeting all of them will they be in a position to announce the new manager.” Hughes remains at the forefront. Long viewed as a potential replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, where he excelled as a player, the former Wales manager recognises that his coaching CV lacks a spell at a club of stature as well as Champions League football. Newcastle have the potential to offer him both, even if the prospect of the latter feels very distant. While Blackburn and Williams are eager to retain the services of a man who has lifted them into the upper half of the Barclays Premier League, they are unlikely to stand in his way if and when Newcastle make their move. For his part, Hughes is said to be keen to embrace a new challenge and is privately intrigued by the prospect of working on Tyneside. He is not, however, set on leaving. That, of course, is Newcastle’s conundrum. While the club maintain that Redknapp was a choice, but not necessarily first-choice, to follow Allardyce, his high-profile snub of their advances, after an interview with Mort in London on Friday night, has dented their credibility. As of yet, their plans do not incorporate Shearer. A straw poll in Newcastle conducted by The Times yesterday found that the club’s record goalscorer would be the preferred choice of many respondents, whether alone or in a partnership. Keegan yesterday did not dismiss reports linking him with a return to the club he almost led to the title during his remarkable spell in charge in the 1990s. “I’m not ruling myself out or in,” he said. “It’s a club I love, everyone knows that.” Yet while Shearer is prepared to be manager, he will not contemplate working under another man and his relationship with Keegan is no longer close. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle3187732.ece
  6. To be fair whilst I know generally people are saying you shouldn't return to a club but its not doing Rangers any harm having Wattie Smith back. After having been a shambles for a couple of years they are currently above Celtic in the league.
  7. New favourite with the bookies... http://www.oddschecker.com/football/footba...wcastle-manager
  8. My head and heart say 'remember fulham, man city and england!?' Id rather have Hughes than a manager that was shit 5 years ago and is now so out of touch with football hel be even shitter now! Yes he may not have done a great job with England, but what exactly was wrong with his time at Fulham? He also left Man City with a similar record to Hughes current (43.75% and 43.48%)
  9. I thought he was a quality player.
  10. Bolton game is huge imo - could be the game that the season hangs on (relegation dogfight or mid-table comfort zone) Good call. We've got to believe we've got it in us to beat Bolton at home even under 'a.n. other'. This would then make the world of difference to how we can afford to approach the rest of the season and ergo how much luxury (in terms of time) we get to look for the next manager. This is so cliched it's horrific but how would people fel to El Tel being offered silly money just to come in as caretaker til May and see us through? Personally I'd make him an offer he couldnt refuse. No!
  11. I don't even think any of the above were considered let alone sounded out...
  12. indeed. the only issue i could see with him is that he's getting on a bit. his record is different class. i'm surprised the n-o boys haven't replaunched hitzfeldforthetoon.com http://www.hitzfeldforthetoon.info/

  14. Newcastle's Alan Smith has been handed a two-match ban by the Football Association following his sending off at Manchester United on Saturday. Smith was shown red in the closing seconds at Old Trafford as his former club completed a 6-0 rout over the managerless Magpies. Smith will now miss the FA Cup third round replay against Stoke on Wednesday and the Barclays Premier League clash with Bolton. Another former Red Devils midfielder, Nicky Butt, is also out of the club's next two fixtures after he was cautioned for the 10th time this season in the first match against the Potters.
  15. I see someone over on N-O had said the SSN have just spoken to Keegan and he refused to rule himself out. Anyone hear/see this?

  18. Not a problem apologies for the fuck off then I noticed someone else the other night mention the Shearer Haters. I for one idolise him as a player and I would fully support him if he was to get the job. Its the mass hysteria that surrounds him that I am questioning. I really think Tyneside would be up in arms if it was anyone else in the same position getting linked, but still cannot get my head round why its ok for Shearer then. I know some argue "he knows the club" whatever that means, but so do many other ex-players but i really do not think they would get the same acceptance.
  19. He spent 10 years at Nancy and Monaco before heading to Spain. Or Japan? You are slow tonight mate, my error (which I have no idea came from lol) has already been pointed out....
  20. So would you be happy giving the job to Beardsley, Steve Watson, Steve Howey etc? I've always thought Beardsley holds the right characteristics to make a good manager. The other two I've not even thought about. My point is that some of the 'dream' names being mentioned could come here and totally flop - it's possible. I don't doubt that, in fact I do not even think we will get the chance to find out as I really do not think any of them will be coming in. There before the grace of god, goes us all... Whoever it is, they may succeed, they may fail. No-one, not one single person can say either way how events will transpire. What is paramount though is that whoever it may be, and however much they were or were not the person you may have wanted the club to appoint. As a supporter of Newcastle United, we are duty bound to do just that.... support without prejudice the club and all those employed within it. Those who choose to make judgements on a new manager before a ball is even kicked under his tenure cannot really class themselves as a 'supporter' I don't know in what context this post was meant but I would hope isn't questioning "My" support. I have been doing an 8 hour round trip for god knows how many years watching shite yet yes I am still there week in, week out "supporting" them regardless of who had been in charge at the club. You won't see me shouting for peoples heads and I stay for the 90 mins unlike many. Also if you are questioning if I would support Shearer, where have I said I wouldn't. If my posts are read you will see that I am questioning are people content with the fact its Shearer, would they have the same attitude if it was anyone else other than him, for most I doubt that very much (IMO) But to be honest even if I was slating the guy its something I would be entitled to have an opinion of as does everyone else including yourself who is more than vocal enough when talking about Newcastles players and managers on here. *I also thought this was the purpose of a discussion forum to have an opinion on things* If I have taken this out of context fair enough (but it certainly seems directed at me seeing as you have quoted my post) but if you are questioning my support for this club, its managers and players all I can say is a right royal fuck off...
