  1. I think I mentioned after the West Ham game in September that I was very worried about what Cole did to him - I think that fear has been realised against other "strong" strikers.

  2. I think he's got progressively worse

That's my view which means there may be hope - I honestly think he looked decent early on but has lost form and now looks less suited to the English game than he did at the start of the season.

Maybe the "decent but not suited" does apply - I think the same of Boumsong.

  3. Didn't this happen in 'The World According to Garp'?

Yep- his wife had an affair with a student and the funny thing was she'd just ended the affair and the BJ was a "last fling". One of his kids also died.

John Irving is probably the only "high brow" author I like.

  4. Think that'll see the mackems safe.

I still think they may lose both their games - if we actually win 2 they could still be fucked.

Only if Hull can win one though, which is doubtful.

Last day at home with Man U having won the title and preparing for Rome could be a chance.

  5. I may have discovered a new magic bullet.

I woke up yesterday morning at 4am with a toothache and couldn't get back to sleep. It eased a bit over the next couple of hours so I went to work and booked a trip to the dentists for Monday.

Got in last night and it went absolutely nuclear - stayed up until 2am waiting for it to ease to the point of making sleep possible.

Got up this morning and after a dullish start it started to go mental again so I went to the chemists and bought some Anbesol gum gel which within half an hour seems to have completely stopped the pain.

Of course it could be coincidence and the nerve has died but looking good at the moment.

  6. It looks like banks are getting back into profit going by first quarter figures (though RBS made a small loss) so I would guess the bottom has been hit.

Of course its probably cyclical as ever but I think the armageddon stuff is bollocks as well.

Wonder if they'll pay us back with their profits.

NR certainly have to be fair.

  8. I couldn't go to college

Just came back from the doctors, I've been up all night being sick and now I have got the biggest headache in the world along with a blocked and runny nose. I contacted my teacher to explain to her but she didnt sound too happy. I was actually going to go in and make an effort but I guess it wasnt meant to be. I will still attend tomorrow tho and try and do as much as I can.

Play the stress induced illness card.

  9. ISPs merging with content providers? I think you're onto something there.

The Sky analogy is interesting though, since they provide the broadcast / recpetion service and some of the content.

I occasionally go to the virgin media site (to check problem status etc) and they seem to be pushing an almost old AOL type idea where people access everything via the ISP "portal".

  10. I'm honest enough to admit that my aniti-BBC licence stance is tempered by how much I use their website (as opposed to their TV output).

I read something a while ago which suggested that the way forward might be via the ISPs who could offer either different packages akin to Sky TV ones which include access to all sites or various subsets, or they could charge by page access on a pay as you go basis.

  11. Last weeks was a disgrace, a girl with a crack set of norks was on there having them reduced, what a fucking waste, I pulled my pants up in disgust !

    I saw that one.

I used to go out with a lass whose best mate had to have a reduction - joking aside she did have genuine back problems and had to take great care walking down stairs.

  12. To be honest Barca are probably just as bad for cheating.

Both games were cheating contests - after all his diving in the first leg, it serves Alves right that he misses the final.

  13. I wasn't bothered but seeing the look on Ashley Cheat's face when they scored changed it - fuck off you cockney scum.

The only downside is that the Italians will only get one kicking instead of two.

  14. In the short term the two years/failure would be hard to explain - in the long term if you make a career of something then it will be meaningless. I've mentioned before on here that I dropped out of university but now that is meaningless.

As others have said, if you can do the work I think you should.

  15. i'd still take our position on the basis that we have 2 decent home games and the other teams may not pick up any more points.

The problem is the 3/4 point gap - if it wa 0/1 or even 1/2 then I'd agree - that's why I'm still expecting relegation tbh.

  16. Weren't there some of our lot in the Fulwell End and Clock Stand, as well as in among the Gillingham fans, when the game kicked off and had to be escorted to the Seaburn end (if that's the correct name) during the game? There are photos of this happening knocking about somewhere.

You may be thinking of the derby in 85 - that was when there was loads in the Fullwell.

  17. I can't copy and pAste on my phone but if you want an article that attempts to undermine Shearer, go on the Guardian site and read Richard Williams' cobblers. The last three paragraphs are fucking hilarious - he seems to think Kinnear was doing a good job of saving us (rather than getting us into the fucking mess), and what we needed to keep us up is a Kinnear clone.

I read that - I presumed him and the Taylor bitch had sat iaround giggling with a laptop knocking up that particular load of shite.

  18. They're obviously still bitter about the game against Gillingham in the 'old style' play offs back in 1987. :D What a glorious night that was!

It was a Sunday afternoon - I remember sitting in the bath after playing football listening to Metro, Charles Harrison: "Oh My God - Cascarino has scored again" is enshrined in my memory for eternity.
