Keane wants his former Manchester United team-mate to lead the Black Cats next season, hopefully in the Premiership. The 32-year-old midfielder was surplus to requirements last summer at Newcastle, but no buyer came forward and he played his way into Glenn Roeder's plans. However, the Toon will let him got this summer as Roeder looks to flood his squad with youth. Butt played with Keane at Old Trafford and would jump at the chance to link up with his old pal. I don't think that's enough of a reason to keep him, he may or may not go on playing like Speed did but getting £2 million for a 32 year old who's on £40k plus pw would represent good business for the club. When your holding man is one of your better players then it says more about how poor we have been as a team rather than how good Nicky Butt has been, with money tight and positions need filling it makes sense to get rid of the older players in the squad with a short career ahead of them if we can get good money. If we could get £2 million for Butt and replace him with Sidwell on a free then that would represent excellent business for the club on and off the pitch.
