Big Sam hoping to borrow Ben Haim

Under-fire Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce could be reunited once again with Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim as he bids to plug his leaky defence.

The Israel centre-back has started only nine Premier League games this term, but with John Terry injured and Ricardo Carvalho banned, the 25-year-old has been thrown into the fray at Stamford Bridge.

But Allardyce, who coached the Israel international while the pair were at Bolton, is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and has reportedly requested to take Ben Haim on loan until the end of the season.

Allardyce has limited cash available and a temporary switch would boost a Magpies defence which has conceded 33 goals in 21 Premier League games.

Allardyce is also bracing himself for the loss of Habib Beye, Claudio Cacapa, Jose Enrique and Abdoulaye Faye who are all on African Nations Cup duty.

We could sign John Terry as well and it still wouldn't make any difference to us. When you have an attack as feeble as ours you can't keep the pressure off the defence for five minutes so it's ineviatble that they crumble eventually no matter how good they are.

We desperately need some quality in the middle and on the right if we want to start creating some chances for our forwards because playing with two anchor men and a winger with absolutely no quality will get us no where.

We have a problem retaining posession, but I think it stems to some extent from the fans. Any time the ball is played backwards an audible groan goes around the stadium, when it goes back to the keeper people around me are up in arms. I get the impression our players feel they MUST go forward or they'll incur our wrath, so when a simple pass isn't on they launch it in the hope it'll drop for us. More often than not it doesn't and we only succeed in inviting another attack.

They can't win.

Totall agree with this too. Also the slightest miscontrol (I'm not talking about Martins with every second touch being a tackle) is met with moans and groans even if the player retains posession.
