Park Life

Starts a bit oddly but picks up and episodes 2 to 6 have been good.

Loads of potential for complex plot development but you never know with these things. Netflix has obviously invested massive amounts into it (all the documentaries on DMT etc now make more sense but its not about that). The scenes require the actors to be in different places at the same time and they have shot the lot on location, so its no expense spared by the looks of things. Got shadowy organisations, conspiracy and intrigue. Couple of the characters are a bit irritating but if you like the sort of genre it is (sort of sci-fi but not really) then you'll probably like it.

Cor sounds good. W brothers/sister - it's about time they got someth8ng right...

The Fish

Rewatching The Wire; the second season is a real fucking effort to give a fuck about at the beginning, isn't it?

Aye, I've seen it before. But when the person you're trying to encourage as a viewer is only half watching it while they're looking at their phone, it doesn't really grab the attention back tot he big screen.

Never had this problem with Daredevil :huff:

You can't half watch the Wire cos so much of what happens is in otherwise nondescript conversations (like real life), so you'll be lost if you're trying to piss about on your phone.

I can be pretty terrible for it too tbf, I got into leaving my phone in another room if I'm watching something to stop me pissing around on it.

the 50% that she is watching is taken up with asking me what's happening, or to translate. Obviously, she expects my experiences on the mean streets of Seaton Delaval to somehow gift me an immediate understanding of the urban gangs' West Baltimore street slang.

and it mos def does not.

I had to have subtitles on at times watching the Wire. No jokes.

Listened to loads of flip-flop whilst growing up so I was ok but I can see where you're coming from. Fucking torture at times watching it with my lass.

The second season is really difficult to get into after the first but by the end of it I thought it was Superb. One of my favourite seasons now.

I gave up with the Wire during season two. I wanted to love it, given all the hype, but found it too hard work. the first season didn't really get going until the final few episodes. didn't help that I couldn't understand what the fuck anyone on it was saying. is the audio quality on the dialogue deliberately muffled? i'm thinking of giving it another go, but watching it with subtitles.

You should definitely give it another go. It is a slow burn but I honestly think it is my favourite ever TV drama. I can't think of another show that has as many compelling characters as The Wire. I much preferred it to The Sopranos and Breaking Bad (which I both really really liked).

I loved those. Two of my all time favourites. I loved mad men too, which rarely got out of second gear and was all about the characters. I should give it another shot.

Happy Face

Any cop show I watch now gets compared to the wire and fails as a result.

Justified is the only one I can stomach but that is cartoonish by comparison.

The killing looked like it might be OK but quickly went to shit.

Still not watched true detective like.
