Real Madrid have announced that they have finally reached an agreement with Santos to sign long-standing target Robinho.

The Brazil international is set to sign a five-year deal with the Spanish giants and will be unveiled on August 25.

"Real Madrid and Santos have arrived at an agreement for the transfer of Robinho," read a statement on Real Madrid's official website.

The news brings an end to a long and drawn-out transfer deal for the 21-year-old, with Santos having insisted Real had to pay their buy-out clause of €41 million (£28.5 million) in full.

The Brazilian Football Federation, CBF, intervened by announcing on Friday that they could not sanction the move but both sides have since reached a deal to allow Robinho to join Los Merengues.

The youngster will become the third Brazilian striker to join Real's attacking ranks for the coming campaign, with the club having also won the chase to land Robinho's fellow countryman Julio Baptista from La Liga rivals Sevilla.

Real agreed a fee of €20 million with their Andalucian counterparts to take the former Sao Paulo player to El Santiago Bernabeu on Friday - much to the disappointment of Premiership side Arsenal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted that Baptista had been a main target for him this summer, but Real have convinced the 23-year-old to move to the Spanish capital instead.

The news of the pair's arrivals at Real is sure to spark fresh doubts over the future of Michael Owen and it remains to be seen if the England hit-man may yet make a return to The Premiership before the end of the summer transfer market.

Spending big wads on strikers and they'll lose games on the fact they have a shit (Woody-less) defence.

All the eggs going in the wrong basket.

It is madness, you have Raul, Ronaldo, Owen, Baptista and Portillo, a defence that is nowhere near the rest of the team so where would you spend £20m??

Thats right buy a striker!

With that money they could easily IMO get 2 top defenders! Surely it must enter someone at the clubs minds they need defenders! Kompany would be good for them with an experienced partner!
