From the Telegraph so it must be true!

Newcastle United.

Roberts will meet owner Mike Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias on behalf of a new group called Fans 410 Consortium on Thursday to discuss a £100 million takeover package.

The shock news comes as Tyneside millionaire Barry Moat's attempts to buy the club hit an impasse following weeks of talks with the club's current owners.

Up for sale: Mike Ashley is trying to sell the St James' Park outfit for £100m

Ashley flew in to the Newcastle training ground on Tuesday to meet caretaker boss Chris Hughton and to continue talks with Moat, who is fronting a consortium of local businessmen and American investors.

Moat is still waiting to hear if his bankers will back his ambitious plans.

But Roberts, the former Spurs and Rangers hardman, has entered the bidding for the club and plans to carry out due diligence. His proposal is to hand control of the club to supporters in a model based on European champions Barcelona.

Roberts said: 'We are called Fans 410, it is some people I know who want to buy a football club and we have approached Newcastle and we have a meeting tomorrow with the chairman and that is where we are at the moment.

'We have to find out what the debt is. The bottom line is no one knows what the debt is and when we talk to the chairman tomorrow we can take it from there but we are very keen.

What the fans want: Roberts (L) says he would take the supporters opinions on board and would look to reappoint club favourite Alan Shearer as manager

'It is more for the fans really. We want to get the fans involved, we want to be like a Barcelona or Real Madrid and take the club forward so they can get involved, get a share of their club and at the end of it they can own their club and have a say in how it is run and choose a president.

'Yes we want Alan Shearer to be the manager, he is the number one choice in the fan base. That is the one stipulation we have, we want Alan on board, and we will move forward from there.'

Meanwhile, Ashley has met the agents of Peter Lovenkrands and Sol Campbell and is hoping to sign the pair this week.

How many more bidders are going to come out of the woodwork just as one bid is looking more likely you then here of another interested party as ive said this is all rubbish so Ashley can keep fans of his back while he makes a profit of any player he can then take the club of the market as soon as transfer period is up, I also think he is using all this to become well known even if it is making the club a complete laughing stock.

I didn't know that this Roberts bloke was the former Spurs player! I saw him in the Metrocentre flogging signed football shirts on a stall about 18 months ago while I was getting a birthday present for Mrs Howmanheyman. The place was fairly empty and a couple of women were asking him about various shirts they wanted, some woman asked if he could get a Fabregas signed Arsenal top! :icon_lol:

Anyway, nobody had a clue who he was, I was looking at a signed Newcastle shirt and he asked me if NUFC was my "favourite team", :) I told him they were and also told him that I called him a cockney bastard through the metal fence the last time he was at SJP with Tottenham, with that I smiled and bade him farewell and left him to punt his gear to the Metrocentre .

Eighteen months later he's apparently a front man for a consortium looking to take over our club! Nah, selling stuff on a stall then buying a football club not long after, me smellith the odour of bullshit.

They're trying to fund a fans takeover at Anfield but it isn't ever going to happen.

Unless you're a very small club ala Ebsfleet United these things are never likely to work. Moat seems the most likely candidate but I 'm beginning to think that Ashley is quite happy staying where he is.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Stan Seymour Jnr, Gordon McKeag & Freddie Shepherd all fans of the club?? Difference was they all had some cash in their pockets. Even Ashley claims he is a fan....

I'm very more concerned at how a 'fans consortium' were going to fund the running and development of NUFC.
