News in the Newcastle Journal today that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has intervened personally in the club’s attempt to sign Lille winger Gervinho.

Gervinho - will meet Pardew this week

Newcastle have been tracking the Ivory Coast International player for some time now, but Newcastle have a big advantage in the transfer market this summer, because they will pay transfer fees up front in cool cash – and that’s almost unheard of these days.

Newcastle got £30M of the £35M fee for Andy Carroll in cash in January from Liverpool, and they are flush with money, and that could help them negotiate deals with other clubs this summer.

Mike Ashley has also insisted that Newcatsle will not pay transfer fees over many years, as the club used to do, and often in the past Newcatsle would be paying out the remainder of a transfer fee, years after the player had already left Newcastle – as a failure.

That’s good financial management by Newcastle these days, but it also makes Newcatsle a great club to do business with this summer.

The news is that Gervinho has agreed to meet with Pardew this week, and Alan will tell the player all about the size of the Newcastle club, with 52,000 home gates and a football mad public.

Pardew will also tell Gervinho about Newcastle’s seemingly ambitious plans, and that they will be signing some good players this summer, and also did very well last season in the Premier League, with some outstanding results. against the very top clubs.

It should also help that Cheick Tiote, Gervinho’s team-mate for the Ivory Coast International side, is already on Tyneside, and one of Newcastle’s top players.

It seems clear one strategy Newcastle are pursuing is getting in quickly for their top targets, and trying to get the cash deals tied up early, before competing clubs come along.

That was always what Sam Allardyce tried to do, and it seems a decent ploy, as you tend to get the player for a lower price, before the August bidding war comes along and daft things are done in the last few days of the transfer window.

Getting players in early also gives them a chance to settle on Tyneside, and Pardew would like new players on the USA tour in July.

Gervinho has looked a good player when we’ve watched him this season, and is flexible in being able to play on either wing or up front, and he would be a very good signing for the club.

The player will turn 24 years old on Friday, and he has played for the Ivory Coast about 20 times and last season scored 15 goals in 35 games for Lille, who won the French League.

Meeting Pardew isn't really going to have the same effect as when he meets wenger or some of the other managers of clubs he's linked with.

What's his wife like?

Gervinho quoted in March saying "Newcastle are a good team, but I want to play in Europe next year, so we'll have to wait until summer to see where I am going".

More likely going to Birmingham ;)

Not sure why people laugh at this site (Im pretty new to it), but in fairness, all they do is seem to trawl the net for all the Newcastle news from the papers etc and bang it up on their site very early in the day.

Its possibly the fastest collection of all the days Newcastle news in one place Ive come across ;)

Who cares :huff: it would be pretty dull if we only discussed news via the club.

Think it's a bit like Tribal Football where people slaughter it but it's just reporting what is in the papers. Which admittedly is often shite, but the site itself isn't the source.

Not really.

It only makes sense if they insist on the same basis for sales - if not cash flows are out of balance.

More 6th form journalism.

This bit stood out:

'Pardew will also tell Gervinho about Newcastle’s seemingly ambitious plans, and that they will be signing some good players this summer, and also did very well last season in the Premier League, with some outstanding results. against the very top clubs. '

Parsnip: " And we'll also be signing some, er, good, er players, Mr Gervinho, so you really should come to Newcastle."

Arsène Wenger wants to sign Lille's Ivory Coast striker Gervinho this summer but he faces competition from Liverpool. The Arsenal manager is a long-term admirer of Gervinho and he has placed him prominently on his list of targets.

Wenger has said that "for the first time in a while, I will be very active" on the transfer market yet the deal for Gervinho could hinge on his ability to sell Andrey Arshavin.

He is open to offers for the Russia forward, who has been a disappointment this season, and he would like to swell his transfer kitty by recouping the £15m that the club paid for him in the winter window of 2009.

Gervinho, 24, has made it clear that he wants to play Champions League football next season, which he would be able to do if he stayed at Lille, who have won the French title for the first time since 1954.

But the prospect of a move to the Premier League appeals, with Liverpool also an attractive option. Gervinho intends to make a firm decision on his future after Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin on 5 June.

Looks like we've got this one in the bag

Lille attacker Gervinho has already decided where his future lies but will not make an announcement until next month.

Gervinho has had an excellent campaign for the French side and his displays propelled Lille to their first Ligue 1 title since 1954.

Major European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina have all been linked with a move for the Ivory Coast international and he says he is looking forward to playing in the Champions League next year.

"After the last match with Lille and a game with Ivory Coast, I will go on holiday. I have already made my choice. Either I will leave or not, everyone will know it later. It is a personal choice," Gervinho told L'Equipe.

"The coach wants me to stay. The club will play in the Champions League and he wants to play it with me. I want to play it too, if I have such an opportunity."

However, the 24-year-old claims that while he is keen to play in Europe's elite club competition, it may not necessarily be with Lille.

He added: "I can play it [the Champions League] at Lille or somewhere else, that is no problem. We have had several talks and we know what we told ourselves. There are still a few days to talk before holidays."
