Looks like the pitch should have started how it finished. Boring as bat shit 4 days, then a brilliant 5th day.

Rashid came good in the second innings too by the look of it. Good on him.

First day/night test is about to start here in a few weeks. I can't remember if all the Aus/NZ tests are day/night or just one.

Just Adelaide, I believe

medieval pitch tbh ;)

 definitely a few evolutionary steps behind most western pitches

Drama as Stokes plays out a couple of overs with a knackered shoulder. Useful lead of 70. Would have liked three figures as there are signs of this pitch becoming a real turner on the last day

You're in with a real chance if you can restrict the lead to around 200. Anything over the 250-300 range on this pitch will be very tricky.

need to skittle them out for under 200 to stand a chance. chasing down 150 will be tough

England are masters at the art of the batting collapse. That's 18 in 25 tests now.

Down to 6 in the test rankings after this defeat now - Pakistan up to 2!

Some good lessons learnt this series I think but it probably raised more issues that it resolved.

Also, I see Tom Graveney has died. Was born at Riding Mill. Supposed to be a very elegant batsman although I only knew him as a commentator. Once saw him and a few other stars from years gone by at the lunch break during the Callers Pegasus International Cricket Festival in about 1990. Think Ray Illingworth, Fred Trueman, Denis Compton and Tony Lock were amongst the others there. RIP.

Is like to see us pick a new specialist opener, a specialist wickie and specialist spinner (if there is one)

We've got lots of good young players who can do a variety of jobs (Stokes, Butler, Bairstow, Ali) but we do seem to be lacking really good specialist openers, keepers & spinners. I think we need to give an opener and a spinner at least a couple of series in a row to try and give them a chance to get into test cricket. Rashid has looked well short compared to Pakistan's spinners but that's not really a fair comparisson so I'd do what we should have done years ago and stick with him. It's surely time to go with Hayles now as an opener. I'm not 100% convinced with him but I don't think Ali was the right move for him or the team. Not sure which keeper to go with. Butler has looked a quality player in the past and he maybe just needs a rest. But Bairstow probably deserves a chance too.

Aye, lets conjure some players out of thin air ;)

Compton and Carberry were both dismissed with a bit too quickly and could be reconsidered. The lack of a match winning spinner is a bigger concerns. Graham Swanns don't grow on trees

It's been a problem since Strauss retired so it's obvious no one has fully staked a claim. As for a spinner, we need a consistent one before we start talking about match winners. As for keepers, I think Bairstow is good enough with the gloves and it's just a question of whether he can get the runs. Deserves his chance though as has been discussed. Butler's looked out of sorts for a while now.

Carberry was treated harshly. Axed for averaging 28 in one white washed series down under, facing 95mph bouncers from Johnson, which was more than the likes of cool and bell managed. At least he's a proper opener. I like Compton too. He could have been given more of a chance.
