First of all, spell checking something for anything slightly important is fine, spell checking on a football message board and not just any football message board, the slow horses of football message boards is laughable. Secondly, I’m taking a short tea break from my en-suite empire to grace you with my presence.

I mean your average person can write down the sales they've made and maybe they even know how to do some basic formulas, but bookkeepers do a lot more than that.

Would agree with a lot of that, though unsure about writers and authors specifically... at least in terms of academic content, you're wanting someone who actually has the credibility to make the claims they are. I don't think the wider community would ever accept AI publishing that sort of material, and it can't do its own research particularly. That being said I suspect it means professional writers who do so for other people.

 

Proofreaders and copyeditors 100% are done for - though at least over here they were a dying breed anyway since it had all been outsourced to India.

Just last year companies were willing to pay my consultancy 40k per 3000 word manuscript, with me as the ghost writer. Maybe 2 weeks work. I offered a lot more than just prose, but AI can certainly make the process much more efficient and let lower skilled staff undertake more straight forward projects. I'm now avoiding anything to do with medical writing, forgive the pun but the writing is on the wall.

Bookkeeping can't he under threat from AI cos it ceased to exist as soon as Lotus 123 came out according to CT.

I'm hoping I remain safe because what AI can't do in my case is actually perform the assessment across various stakeholders, although it 100% can do the report. At the moment that's a win for me more than anyone else as it removes a huge amount of labour. It feels collaborative ultimately and while that remains the case I feel ok about it.

 

That being said I hope this publishing company works out - unless AI manages to undermine the entire scholarly community and its value, I think it should be safe.
