Pretty much how illiterate people can spell using Word and excel has done away with lots of bookkeepers

Some of the concerns raised here are understandable but some of you (Not looking at HMHM), had counterparts saying the same stuff about computers.

Even now, used correctly AI has a lot of benefits, but all this is nothing compared to what’s coming in the next 5-1o years. It will transform movie and TV making, which let’s face it we will need to occupy our free time.

I mean you've got spell check on your phone but still managed to somehow spell the number 10 with a 1 and the letter o.

First of all, spell checking something for anything slightly important is fine, spell checking on a football message board and not just any football message board, the slow horses of football message boards is laughable. Secondly, I’m taking a short tea break from my en-suite empire to grace you with my presence.

It must be a very quiet week if the spelling Nazi’s are out

Hell will freeze over before I give two fucks about my spelling ability on here, you sad old cunts.

I only came on to cheer myself up after the wife popped in and said “I didn’t pick your prescription up because the chemist said if you wait til your birthday next week, you don’t have to pay anymore”. And “you can also get a seniors railcard”.

Life flashed before my eyes, the end is coming and you think I give a fuck about an o or an 0

I assume the point he's making is that having a spreadsheet program hasn't killed the bookkeeping industry.

I mean your average person can write down the sales they've made and maybe they even know how to do some basic formulas, but bookkeepers do a lot more than that.

Spreadsheets might have killed actual ledger books though, I'll give you that.

Yeah, spot on. Over simplifying the industry by quite some margin.

I've a couple of mates who are bookkeepers and they're making an absolute mint.

The plural of Nazi is nazis. No need for an apostrophe.

Careful. He'll accuse you of using Microsoft Word to draw that conclusion.

Is it just me but does the word bookkeeper look teutonically wrong?

Anyway, it's in the list of the top 10 professions most at risk from AI. Of course, this is according to AI. :D

  • Interpreters and translators: AI can handle real-time translation of both text and speech.

  • Historians: AI is proficient at information retrieval, cross-referencing, and building timelines.

  • Proofreaders and copy editors: AI tools can quickly identify and correct errors in grammar and spelling.

  • Customer service representatives: AI-powered chatbots can handle many customer inquiries and support requests.

  • Data entry clerks: AI can automate the process of inputting and organising large amounts of data.

  • Writers and authors: AI can generate various forms of written content, from blog posts to ad copy.

  • Telemarketers: AI can automate outbound calls and sales pitches.

  • Bookkeepers: AI can handle routine financial tasks like data entry and reconciliation.

  • Market research analysts: AI can efficiently process and analyse large datasets to identify patterns and trends.

Whoa, sort your fucking quotes out, I didn't say that. Not even AI would make that mistake.

You Boldon blood brothers are as one.

Would agree with a lot of that, though unsure about writers and authors specifically... at least in terms of academic content, you're wanting someone who actually has the credibility to make the claims they are. I don't think the wider community would ever accept AI publishing that sort of material, and it can't do its own research particularly. That being said I suspect it means professional writers who do so for other people.

Proofreaders and copyeditors 100% are done for - though at least over here they were a dying breed anyway since it had all been outsourced to India.

Interpreters and translators, writing is on the wall. That's a big focus area for it too tbh.

Just last year companies were willing to pay my consultancy 40k per 3000 word manuscript, with me as the ghost writer. Maybe 2 weeks work. I offered a lot more than just prose, but AI can certainly make the process much more efficient and let lower skilled staff undertake more straight forward projects. I'm now avoiding anything to do with medical writing, forgive the pun but the writing is on the wall.

Bookkeeping can't he under threat from AI cos it ceased to exist as soon as Lotus 123 came out according to CT.

I'm hoping I remain safe because what AI can't do in my case is actually perform the assessment across various stakeholders, although it 100% can do the report. At the moment that's a win for me more than anyone else as it removes a huge amount of labour. It feels collaborative ultimately and while that remains the case I feel ok about it.

That being said I hope this publishing company works out - unless AI manages to undermine the entire scholarly community and its value, I think it should be safe.
