Have the knockout teams play their regional rivals, so you have less distance to travel and more of a local rivalry. Then you end up with the 'best' team from North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania. You could feasibly split Europe and South America into regions so they may have more than one team reach the finals with 8 teams. And fuck this over 4 years qualification crap, just have it so that only the season prior to the tournament impacts qualification so you get the best teams at that point in time only. Exactly. That is fucking batshit. ~£40m for playing against Wydad Casablanca (finished 3rd in the Moroccan league), Al Ain (5th in the UAE Pro League), Juventus (4th in Serie A), and Al Hilal (2nd in the Saudi League)? Going off transfermarkt, just with that windfall, you could buy Wydad Casablanca's squad and still have enough left over to get a 6 bed Georgian in Belgravia. It's just ridiculous. might help us fitness wise to be out early. but there was another 60m up for grabs.
LondonBlue 1097
so you guys chatting about the CWC.... i really enjoyed it. seeing my club play teams we would never normally play competitively. the one game i could live without was City v Juventus, which is odd as that was our best game. my big regret is that we didn't get to see us play an Argentinian or Brazilian team. i think the idea is brilliant, but the implementation and venue left something to be desired. i think it should be in places like the UK or Spain whilst it establishes itself in European eyes. With a greater variety of teams. i think more guaranteed group games and less knockout games. to ensure more cross continent games. whatever keeps shock results coming. maybe ditch the Champions League for a World League played in 1 month instead of over a season? hmm bugger, the home and away aspect of the CL is pretty good tough. Nah, bin it and the money it generates.
Craig 8168
Agreed, not a fan. A one-off match between the winners of the Champions League and the Copa Libertadores isn’t a bad idea but a whole competition? Nope. One for the bin.
LondonBlue 1097
fair enough but i love it. teething issues but hopefully here to stay. The previous CWC was too small.
Howmanheyman 39090
Champions of Europe Vs S America as it was. One off game, leave it at that, expenses and small prize money plus the 'prestige'.
Andrew 5862
I did like the factor of bringing teams together to play who would otherwise never have a match, thats got an old school feel to it thats missing from a lot of football now, players you've never heard of etc. Its just a cash grab for fifa and the clubs they like though, as well as being yet another addition to an already bonkers football calendar. fuck it.
