Pardew on Ashley, Finances and Future

Alan Pardew tells talkSPORT > "We will be bringing in 4 to 5 players this Summer... the recruiting process has already begun.

:D

bringing in 4 to 5 yet we're a top player down from January, allegedly agreed another one is going so even if no more go then we've only strengthened by 2 or 3. Enrique out puts us down to 1 or 2 and thats without knowing whats happening with Barton etc.

ANd thats not taking into account that every statement out of the club has generally been jazzed up to make it sound better so for 4 - 5 read 3 -4 or even 2 - 3.

Talk is cheap and that's not even a dig at Pardew etc. It's just that these quotes are pretty meaningless imo and that more or less applies to any manager at any club discussing transfers.

Perch and Smith out, 2 good strikers in, a good winger, full back cover and retain Ireland(if he fits in and looks good), sign up Barton,Nolan and Jose. That would be a good summer for me. Oh and fucking Guthrie off and getting O` Hara wouldnt be bad either

Fucking no chance of Enrique staying imo.

if we finish well and the chairman displayed an ounce of ambition he might.

not that i expect either of those things to happen

Whys that? Have I missed something?

:D

Well there's loads of speculation about clubs being interested, there's been some about our looking for a replacement, at least one local journalist has intimated he's definitely away, he's stalled on signing a new contract, he's only got year on his current one.

He`s first choice here, playing in front of 50,000 fans, most of who think he`s the dogs bollocks, in a team that has a genuine team spirit and they all seem to get on. Thats gotta count for something although when or if a silly money bid comes in we all know it adios amigo

Nailed on he's off to Liverpool IMO. Basically we'll end up with all the Fernando Torres money and be devoid of two of our best players for the trouble.

The first bit's just hot air as far as most players are concerned, plus he might actually want to win somethin. As for the second bit, the length of his contract means any reasonable bid will see him off. Rightly so tbf, although they could've sorted his contract out a while ago imo. You're always taking a risk when you let it get down to less than two years.

Also, summer shouldn't be capitalised.

What??

Unless it's at the start of sentence, that is.

Thats why I didnt

The talkshite article did though. I wasn't on about you. It was a pitiful attempt at a humourous aside.

Shaun Custis claims to have a document circulated by the club after relegation outlining who was for sale and how much they wanted for them. NUFC’s valuation in brackets.

FOR SALE Colo (£3m) Enrique (£3.5m) Jonas (£3m) Barton (£1.5m) Nolan (£3m) Smith (£3m) Shola (£2m) Martins (£8m)

The list also included players who they might sell and ones to keep.

MIGHT SELL Krul (£1.5m) Forster (£1m) Raylor (£3m) Guthrie (£2m) Carroll (£1m)

KEEP Harper (£1m) Beye (£2m) Saylor (£5m) Bassong (£8m) Duff (£3m)

Anything published in the media has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but the scope and detail in this gives it above average credence. If it is true, it shows it was a lack of suitable offers and not planning that saw us come straight back up... the spine of our promotion team would have been gone if the clubs plan had come to fruitition.

Pure fiction and shite journalism. Plus Oba went for £10m...

Additional to this ''for sale'' Kevin Nolan couldn't have been sold as he only joined the club in January!

It is probably bollocks but I think there are dispensations allowed re: that rule so Nolan may have been allowed to go on the basis we'd been relegated.

Wasnt the other 15m of the Torres fee to plug the difference between Babel and Suarez?

The credibility test for that is we kept the supposedly for sale players and sold those on the keep list :D

I think it's probably got some legs tbf. Also the figures are the club's supposed valuation, not what we ended up getting for them. If Wolfsburg come straight in with the £9m bid they actually paid for him straight away, we weren't likely to tell them we only wanted 8.

Isn't the '2 clubs max inside a year' rule only valid in the same division? Pretty certain the fact we were relegated negated that.

As for the lists, they're not too far wide of the mark. At the time I don't remember many too enamoured by Colo, Jonas & Enrique and most (me included) reckoned Barton should have been driven out of the club after what happened at Anfield.

Aye it was. I wasn't specifically saying it was all being spent this way just that if Enrique does go for hopefully a decent figure, it'll mean the outlay from Liverpool to Newcastle will almost be a match to that of Chelsea to Liverpool if you get my drift.

I'm not sure to be honest but the papers can write what they what about Newcastle and half the time it's believable just because we are being run by utter cretins.

Who you want to sell and who you can sell are two seperate situations though.
