It has been a growing problem in Dublin for a while now. Property prices have once again been growing rapidly while wages haven't. Combined with a government that has pretty much been skint for much of the last decade there's a severe shortage of affordable social housing in the city. Though the lack of affordable housing has been an issue at least two decades and something that successive governments have not attempted to resolve (something that Ireland has in common with the UK).
