Blimey, when I said the nursery teacher's influence was nefarious I didn't realise it was that bad.5 points

In short, someone at the department of health has created a bunch of fake NHS staff twitter accounts and is posting in defence of the govt. Read the thread. This is fucking outrageous behaviour by a government that is completely out of control.4 points

Do you get bonus points if you're limp-wristed because of the nefarious influence of a nursery school teacher?4 points

You know, I’m not afraid to admit when I’ve been wrong, it’s how we grow as a person and hopefully I learn from my mistakes. t00nraider2 here has finally shown me that I can be wrong about a person, even when I’ve made a fairly solid judgement of them, and for that I thank them. I’d always believed Michael Owen was the dullest, most fucking tedious little cunt on the planet, and here’s t00nraider2 just blowing him out of the water.4 points

The NHS has had capacity in part because pretty much everything non-urgent has been cancelled. If we'd locked down earlier, that might not have been quite as necessary. Ditto having to co-opt private facilities and the like.3 points

They fucked on lock down. They fucked up on testing. They fucked up on PPE. Despite having 2 weeks warning from Italy. The result? The worse death rate per capita of any large developed country in the world. I would say that was losing, big style. It's fucking disgusting.3 points

It’s nothing like that. This is the expiration of the May futures contract. They’ll cut supply and everything will be tickety boo when we all get back to work.2 points

The NHS has managed capacity brilliantly. I give the government credit for the Nightingale hospitals. But as Meenzer says, at what cost to other specialities? It will take decades to clear the back log and the collateral mortality might be as bad as the direct mortality. Its obvious why we should have locked down sooner. It increases exponentially in none lock down environments. If we had locked down sooner we could have protected the NHS, bought time for research, had adequate PPE, and ultimately got out of lock down sooner, which would have actually been much better for the economy. It goes back to the herd immunity strategy which was just catastrophically stupid. And if you go back to page 20 or so on this thread you will see that nearly all of us called it for what it was. That proves no hindsight was necessary.2 points

Aye, probably the only thing that would be more tragic than him behaving like this as a mackem wum would be if his purported views were genuine2 points

I didn't say anything about dictatorships mate, after the last few years in the UK I'm quite confident that the morality slider for democracy versus dictatorships isn't as clear cut as it used to be. We're talking about specific countries/regimes. I assume you could just go on to name whatever it is you're referring to there, but I urge to consider my following point: I am completely defeated on this. My political worldview is shot, I have no hope for the future, I have given up completely. You don't need to spar with me on this, your side won in absolute entirety, and as far as I can tell will not be deposed for a generation at least, by which point I will have entirely disengaged. Facts don't matter, evidence doesn't matter, reality doesn't matter. I will not reply to a further post on this point, but I wish to convey that I respect your opinion. I just don't care what it is anymore2 points

Brexit must happen irrespective of the significant and long term cost to our economy. Also, tens of thousands must die so that the economy is protected.2 points

It was unreal, in the middle of the snooker My old man subsequently said that at the end of his national service he’d been selected to try for the SAS but had lost out to an acquaintance of his, which thoroughly pissed him off.....I always thought that this was bollocks but it turns out it was true, when he died I spoke to one of the last of his old comrades who confirmed it To be fair to him, as soon as the news switched to the Embassy and the lads were seen abseiling down the face of it he said “ that’s the special air service, they’re the only buggers who could do that!”2 points

I do... https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/full-transcript-steve-howeys-fascinating-14474257 The early part of my Newcastle career wasn’t great. I made my debut under Jim Smith in 1989 as a centre forward and I was never a centre forward. “Ossie Ardiles brought in a lot of kids, got rid of lots of the experienced players. I’m up front in a bad team. We were good lads, good players, but we were too young. “I’m playing up front, I’m from Sunderland, I am wearing the number nine. For the first few years, I didn’t recognise my name as Steve Howey. I was referred to as something I can’t repeat!”2 points

In other news it seems we now have a special friendship like the mackems: Friends! We need a name as “the two most vile fan bases in the world because they didn’t stand up to Gulf blood money even though absolutely no other area of society did either club” doesn’t quite have a nice ring to is. Not as apt as the Mackem and Everton “bitter little cunts” club anyway1 point

No thick skin needed here mate- I didn’t give a particular fuck what the majority of them thought before, and I certainly can’t see any great change in that approach from me, come what may. The hoop-licking once we start getting good again will be funny to see, though, in the same way watching kids fall over is1 point

I was transferring through Dubai years ago, shitfaced. I stepped over a low barrier to join a smaller queue and was berated by ex number 4. To which I slurred, a little too loudly, “what they gonna do, cut me hands off?” typed from my chinstrap1 point

I saw somebody mention the Leipzig approach who, I believe, pumped obscene money into coaching, scouting and a state-of-the-art training facility and acquired a load of affiliates all over the world to pick up their best young players. Less spending on big names and more just establishing a machine behind everything. It wouldn't surprise me if they very quickly built an expensive new training ground and academy. The one thing that should, at least, be very fucking obvious is that we should be hoovering up any young North Eastern player of any real quality whatsoever. Set up club-run 4G pitches all over the region, hold regular youth leagues and cast your eye over the talented ones. I'm not sure if any old fucker can fund football in schools but donating a load of top-notch football gear to schools seems an obvious idea as well.1 point

I stated my feelings on this last time round in January and they haven't changed. I don't want NUFC to be owned by the Saudis. I despise them and would hate for our club to be involved in their plans to legitimize their medieval regime in a post-oil world. All of that said, if this is happening, it's out of my hands. Just like it was when Ashley bought us. We're as powerless against this as we were any of the myriad times we protested Ashley's decisions. And so if I've got no say, and I don't, then I'm going to fucking enjoy being a real club again, no matter who's signing the cheques. Having a real manager again instead of a succession of bargain-basement bozos. Investing significant funds into the first-team squad. Having a serious tilt at Europe again. Getting some relief after thirteen (fuck me) pretty fucking barren years. Scrubbing every trace of Ashley's low-rent sportswear empire from SJP. So aye, bring on the Saudis. Even if they only spend enough to make us a going concern again, that'd be enough.1 point
