There's a really interesting short article on The Athletic about our long through tactics against Tottenham. It's especially pleasing because it's yet more evidence of our manager outsmarting opposition manager's, exploiting opposition weaknesses, and having flexibility within a system to implement targeted gameplans. No wonder we're winning. Our manager isn't just hoping for magic. He's making it happen. It seems he clearly identified that Lloris is weak at coming off his line (amongst other weakness in our opponents) and developed a gameplan to draw Spurs defenders out, then drop long balls into the space behind them for our front three to get to before Lloris. The plan nearly worked in the first few minutes with Joelinton. And then it did work for the goal. Really puts into context that we are approaching every games with a specific plan to win. And boy does it make us better because not only does it work tactically, but it also fosters the self-belief that it will work (which is almost more important).8 points

He was the top scorer in League2 so no mug. Pro footballers are unbelievable though. I used to know an unnamed centre-half who was considered an absolute carthorse when he played for Newcastle. He came and played for our 6 aside team once and he would genuinely have won playing by himself. We assumed he would be centrehalf, he said fuck that centre forward. It was something like 21-0 at half time and he'd got 19 of them6 points

This is what likes of Arsenal, Man U, Spurs, even Everton Leicester have been saying for past 5+ years... Spurs were in a piss with Conte for being 3rd, and are in a sour piss still being 3rd - after being beaten. Next season we are not 2/3 players away from being proper scary, we are 5ish players into the side so we don't have to rely on 15-20+ games from Championship level players like Dummett/Murphy/Manquillo/Krath/Lascelles/Darlow/Fraser/Wood. We may be in top 4, but the season isn't over, less than a third in - and Paul Dummett is still registered to play. I love the excitement, but I hate seeing the the 'one-hand-on-throphy' mentality some fans have, especially the arrogance it's given with. Love the fact we are 4th! It's ours to throw away regarding contention, but I don't think we can be 4th after 38 games. Longer we are 4th, the longer we have a shot, and if we do fall off, we get Europe. Top 10 was my goal this season!6 points

This is possibly the worst argument I've ever been involved in (that includes the one I had with the mrs about vacuuming when we didn't speak for a week after).5 points

Suppose it's also fitting that Truss' podium looks like a jenga tower in a state of imminent collapse. Foreshadowing.4 points

Yeah read that, it's great insight. I swear I heard Wilson or someone else after the game talk about targeting Lloris. But isn't it nice to see an identifiable style/approach, instead of just "rolling up wuh sleeves"?4 points

Well reading that, there's no question who Toontastic's Domestic Goddess of the Week is and it's only fucking Tuesday.4 points

Totally this and the cojones. The way our approach went down can't have won him any favours at Villareal, so with their lack of progression he probably feels the writing is on the wall. Coming into Villa on the back of Gerrard at this stage of the season is a cakewalk compared to coming in later to a winless club that almost everyone had nailed on as relegation certainties. The great thing is with the benefit of hindsight we can say with absolute certainty that getting Howe worked out to be the best thing to happen to the club in recent times (apart from the takeover that facilitated it). You would have to think that Villa should finish comfortably in mid table with the players they have and a half decent manager, far from a good return on their recent financial investment.4 points

The Braverman appointment was an eminently avoidable misstep. He's so shit scared of the ERG though. Take the cunts on ffs. He'd get more respect from the electorate that he needs to focus on if he stood up to those pricks.3 points

It's awful when someone rambles, wittering on around the topic, stretching their loquaciousness ad infinitum, endlessly droning on, interminably continuing to talk, with verbose, longwinded, voluble, garrulous answers that go nowhere.3 points

Well fair enough I guess, we're not really disagreeing, just expressing things differently. I really think you deserve to take my board crown as the glass half full person on here rather than me, it's a mantle I have long wanted to lose having battled with my own personal depression problems! For the record, I do agree the tories have gone down the best road available to themselves here. I do agree we are getting more austerity, and that Labour will not even reverse this. I agree that Starmer is not interested in constitutional change, and therefore frankly I am not arsed in helping out with the party on a personal level like I have in the past (having 2 kids, an ill mother, and full time job not helping there either). I do agree the UK is in a shit place and I don't see anyway out in the short or medium term. But if I've learned anyhting, there is no point in beating yoursef up about things you can't change. Look after yourself mate.3 points

A comfortable 2-0. We went to Spurs and won, and we were 3-1 up against Man City. These have got some alright players but we are properly on the move now. It's just a shame Emery isn't there so Eddie can fart in his face on the full time whistle.3 points

Everyone who has come in has done a job and has the right attitude (I include Wood in that). It's great to have the confidence in the manager and the owners to only make moves that improve our team and fit in with the team ethos and not just based on price/availability just to get someone through the door. One or two in January is fantastic if they improve our first eleven.3 points

Yeah our depth in the squad is there to see. Eddie has done wonders with the players who were already here, but to progress we are going to have to move on from them. I get the sense of ambition from the fans, but I hope the fanbase doesn't turn into a bunch of expectant arseholes the minute that we have a dip in form. It's been upward trajectory since the start of the year, and that can't last forever. We are better building this project slowly and getting in the right characters. If it's another 1 or 2 in come January then that'll be great.3 points
