I love that Liverpool have had a fucking stinker. Listening to the weekend preview podcasts and it's still Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man United that are being talked about as most likely to enter the title race. They might be ultimately proven right if our squad gets stretched too thin, but these lads are really finding it hard to get over their "traditional" big 6 fixation.

I'm enjoying it well enough but one thing I think it underlines more than anything is how incredibly competent we are at the board level. Yes it's all likely staged, yes it's very corporate, agree with all of that - but the depth of talent available to us at the executive level relative to what we'd previously been stuck with is incredible. At some point in the first episode Stavely is on a video call with some fella who was the Head of European Investments for PIF - and he was talking about what the club needed to do with clearly some awareness of the situation. I honestly feel like we're going to be really dangerous in the long run not just because we can throw money at the team, but because we're going to have the most skilled and competent people running it.

A mate of mine lives near Hall at the minute. He said he helps out at the local cricket club and is regularly seen coaching youth football in the village. Seems like a good kid and probably fits the mould that the club is looking for.

The stadium itself hasn’t changed much, other than having the foul stench of Ashley removed, but the Gallowgate area around it is very different to what it was in 2003. If you like a bit of beer, Ouseburn has the same old stalwarts and a few new bars/taprooms too. The Fish Quay is a bit better served with eateries and drinkeries than it was too. I’d have recommended Riley’s Fish Shack on the beach at King Edwards Bay but I don’t know if it’s open in winter? There’s a place at the Tynemouth end of Longsands which probably wasn’t there either, The View, but I’ve no idea if it’s any good? The city centre is as it was, but there’s loads of new places to eat and drink- The Grainger Market is a great place to go for a lunch if your in during the day. There’s an Outdoor Sofa in Boldon too, which is on the list of Worlds Most Minging Places, worth avoiding.
