I started this comment taking about keeping goal but.. Based only on the motd highlights, Dubravka made two routine saves. Then slipped, which can happen to anyone for their first goal. He should have saved the second IMO, he didn’t move his feet well enough and Pope saves it tbh. Regardless, I’m one of Dan Burns biggest fans but he (read, his lack of pace) is getting targeted by opposition managers (see first goal today). I don’t think this is a Dan Burn problem, he is being asked to play left back and tuck in to allow Trippier to get forward, we all know this and now opposition managers have realised. Simply playing a different player doesn’t solve this, because it changes the shape of the entire team. Our back four is severely lacking in pace, all great players but no sprinters among them. So when we as a team play as high as we do (correctly imo) and try to win the ball high (again correctly), if we don’t win it back high then we very open to a quick counter attack with one/two passes. I think the issues with our defending are more to do with lacking big and little joes. They have high press energy, and nobody else in our midfield does, so we miss winning the ball high, preventing the quick passes behind our defence. This exposes our slow defenders. Sorry for the essay12 points

No. The mood from some is like we are fighting relegation. If anything 7th is above our station with all the injuries we’ve had. And we’ve had to resort to regularly playing a 17 year old who is 7th choice CM. We’ve got 8 points from 4 games -which is about par. it’s glaring obvious they both need replacing. He isn’t stupid. I suspect we’ll have our eye on Lloyd Kelly on a free in the summer to upgrade Burn.6 points

Yes lol, in all seriousness, this is a great example of responsibility online lol, The day after I tweeted this, it was featured on the Chris Moyles show on XFM, and I thought it had got out of hand and I deleted the tweet, that must have been 5 years ago and I still get DM'd about it or I see it on lad bible or get forwarded it on Facebook etc. The internet is forever ! even if you delete it lol5 points

Where I used to work I got two weeks paid paternity at the paltry statutory level. Any additional was unpaid. So for eldest then the twins that’s all I took / all I could afford. Then when they temporarily lost a big customer they instantly made about two thirds of the workforce (me included) redundant at the statutory rates again. It’s quite a small company (c. 20 people before that happened). Funny how you find out what people are really like. And one of the directors let slip they had about £5m quid in the company bank account just before I left. Good fucking riddance in the end but it didn’t feel like that at the time. Anyway, sorry to hijack your announcement. Congratulations, mate4 points

Somehow a worse refereeing performance than last week. Teams come to SJP with the aim of unfairly disrupting our patterns of play, particularly focused on Bruno and our pacey front three, and the ref consistently lets them do it. It is the refs job to ensure that the contest is played within the rules. And failing to book a player for three separate yellow card worthy offences does not fit the bill. It's as simple as that really. The refereeing standard is atrocious. In saying that, I think we should be more aggressive in our tactics to disrupt opponents in transition as well, particularly at home. I'm sure the same standard wouldn't be applied to us and we'd end up with booking and suspensions across the park but at least if we do what is done to us it puts the point to the ref to make it the same for both sides. As for our performance, we needed to get in front first half when we had a bit of freshness in the legs. After going behind 1-0 and given the refereeing performance, it's really a positive to end up 2-2. In a game we played without a recognisable striker in the squad too. Not a bad point really all things considered. It's a result that is a product of our season to date. Also, they could've been 2-0 up in the first half if Solanke could finish. He's clearly had a purple patch similar to Miggy. I hope Arsenal or Chelsea look to sign him in the summer. He'll be a terrible waste of 50m for whoever gets him.4 points

My take: I don't think there's any way we're recruiting anyone without the Board, including Al Rummaz giving them a very thorough once-over, and running a proper recruitment process. These lads are probably going to Sunderland.3 points

I can't really fathom that people are seriously questioning Howe's position. He has so much credit in the bank. And, like Holden mentioned, seventh this season (all things considered) would actually be a good result and improve his station in my opinion. And we're right in the race for seventh. That's fuckin miraculous considering where we were not too long ago with a lot of the same players (who weren't injured and playing on fumes for months on end). Not calling you out Wyki. You're a reasonable voice on here. Just speaking to the question posed. It boils my piss a bit that gobshites on twitter are so hyperbolic. Prolly why I avoid the place. It'd drive me mental.3 points

I wonder if there's a consideration to play 5 at the back from the outset in this match. We've looked solid when doing so and haven't really seemed to lose much in attack either. Also, it has the added benefit of providing us with an option on the bench in midfield if we drop Miley to the bench. Debruv Tripps Schar Botman Burn Tino Longstaff Bruno Miggy Gordon Barnes Subs bench: Bench -- Bench -- Shrub -- Bench -- Bench -- Donation -- Shrub I dunno. It feels like something needs to change because we've leaked goals against absolute shite teams for the past month. Now up against a quality side we're likely to get pumped if we do the same expecting a different result. (Please note that I do not actually believe I am the manager of Newcastle United. This is the mere opinion of a colossal idiot.) If we implement MY gameplan then we are bound to win 9-0. And all 9 goals are scored by the squad's blind and best leftback, the moonlighting English country music star, Garth Brale, as he whips the ball into the net with the loose strands of his topknot that he's fashioned into a cat-of-nine-tails. Whip-crack went his whippy tail!3 points

Aye, Bruno, Joe, Tonali, Willock, Miley and Longstaff is good midfield depth in a normal season. However, we do need: 1 - An upgrade on Burn/Targett at LB if Hall is going back to Chelsea 2 - Another CB if Lascelles doesn't sign a new contract 3 - A replacement for Miggy 4/5 - A 3rd striker. And a replacement for Wilson if he leaves. We played 3 different wingers up front today and none of them looked like a striker3 points

Another thrilling seesaw game and no surprise when you look at the team we put out: no centre forward, one 17 year old in midfield, another child off the bench making his debut and the venerable Matt Ritchie off the bench to rescue a point. Some players need to be moved on or used as squad players next season. Miggy, Miley and Longstaff would ideally be rotation options. Look how many minutes they’ve played this season. Miggy in particular has reverted to type in front of goal. Some of his decision making today was awful. He’s desparate for a goal I have loads of sympathy for Howe. I love that he’s trying to win every game despite being dealt such a shit hand with injuries. Apparently we don’t demand a team that wins, we demand a team that tries. Well, we have that. I love these lads3 points

He’s Ineos’ second big appointment and they can’t be seen to fuck this up. They’ve played their hand and cannot fail at this point. If the two years gardening leave clause is true then we have them over a barrel.2 points

Hes been with us for less than 2 yearsm we paid loads for him and waited months, you're fucking right that contract has an ENORMOUS amount of leave notice on it That redcafe thread is hilarious "whats to stop him just working for us during his gardening leave" "Why doesnt he just quit and join us" morons.2 points

Ashworth is just another tiny testicle man in the world of football. He can have a challenge and be part of something truly unique but no it's all too tough. So at first opportunity to fuck off to somewhere that is gifted every opportunity, what little chonies he has, shrivel up and he makes for the exit. What a gutless twat.2 points

There have been massive implications to the full system when we lost Pope. This has given the very slow defence a lot of extra ground behind them to cover. The loss of Joelinton had given Burn even more ground to cover. I think Tino makes more sense, but even he has not looked *as* good without Pope. Part of me wonders if we have accepted the position that we are in and boxing between what is best in the short, medium and long-term. I thought we would have went for a short-term replacement up front like a Vardy type character, like we did with Wood. I wasnt expecting a midfield replacement with Willock and Anderson not being far off. I wonder if we accepted the need for a short-term fix then (Wood/Burn) but we don't need them now. As much as we would like Champions League next year, maybe a better plan for recruitment and a proper path may be in the offing.2 points

I get two lots of two months paternity leave, I have to be in work for at least 2 months between them, but I'm going to take two months at the beginning (March) and the other bit in early 2025. Also when I finish that second spell I return to work on an 80% hrs/100% pay split for 6 months. It's brilliant support and makes handling childcare so much more affordable and easy. It isn't as good as some of the Scandi countries though.2 points
