  1. As much as it's nice to move out players on the fringes of the squad, it is still a mighty underwhelming series of transfer windows we've had these last three windows. And I'm not convinced it becomes a question of simply turning on the money faucet come the summer. It's safe to say that PSR is properly doing a number on us at this point. One of the most passionately supported clubs in the country curtailed by the arbitrariness of historical timing. If we had basically any other owner than Ashley prior to the PSR era we'd be streets ahead now because we'd have had a much stronger base to build from with a PIF takeover. As it is we built to PSR capacity in a few windows and now suffer the penalty of a seemingly impenetrably low ceiling which is the product of 15 years of stagnation under that fat cunt. We'll get through it, of course, in time, but imagine if we were on the fringes of European spots rather than a fuckin' yo-yo club prior to the takeover. For one thing, we would have had players to sell to lower PL teams rather players that nobody wanted and others who could only perform above expectations in fits and starts. And the drop off between trying to sell to PL teams (or equivalent) and trying to sell into the championship is night and day because of the relative gulf in buying capacity between the levels. If we weren't a habitual basket case prior to the takeover the difference now would be enormous. As it is we have clearly stagnated and simply hanging onto what we have is viewed as a victory. Of course what money we have available to spend is the chief concern come the summer but it's also a worry if our buying capacity has weakened in terms of how we are perceived by the agents/players we're looking to buy. The possibility of Isak, Bruno, et. al. leaving owing to our stagnation is obvious but what about potential signings also not considering us for the same reason. You'd have to wonder if we had the money to sign an Isak/Bruno now and given our stalling project, would they come? Would they believe that we're a team capable of working towards challenging for silverware across the short term of the best years of a player's career? It's a question for sure. So when it comes to the summer transfer window, money to spend or not, I'll be very interested to see how capable we are of getting deals done for elite players if we can't show the type of trajectory such a player would desire. Not to be a complete misery guts but I think where we finish this season could be the most important moment for the takeover since we avoided relegation in the first season. I tend to agree with Gloomy, if we miss CL, we'll be force to sell in the summer. Then its about the message that sends to the players we manage to keep and the elite players of the world we're looking to sign that despite everything we're still a selling club/stepping-stone to the elite clubs of the world. I really wish that the PIF would just push the boat out on sponsorships and what not. Hopefully the new training ground and stadium are accompanied by some truly eye-watering naming rights sponsorships that challenge the "Big Club" lapdogs at the PL's administrative arm to go fuck itself.

  2. I think a large factor with the Fulham result was the team are conscious of the importance of Wednesday night's game and were a bit reserved because of it - which is fair and probably should of been expected. Not just that, he needs to be stood next to the fourth offical all game, can in one hand, dart in the other, offering the official a can/tea/coffee/spliff every few moments and blowing smoke in Lego Head's face everytime he comes over to complain.

  7. It paid off, but meant we had to sacrifice a homegrown squad player in Anderson and promising youngster in Minteh - both of whom would have gotten minutes for us this season. It's completely unsustainable long term IMO. Ideally, we need to find a handful of talented youngsters that may never hit the top level but we can sell off for £10m a pop to newly promoted sides. That's effectively what the "big 6" cunts have been up to. I still think we should be going mental signing Saudi teenagers, training them for a year and selling them to Saudi clubs for £5m-£10m each. If any of them are stars then we keep them. It's not against any rules (yet), and would be a way to get a few quid each season. Surely, the Saudi youngins would benefit a lot in our set up too so it would be win win in many respects.

  9. Aye, WUMs can’t take being WUMMED. Anyway, enough about that prick, I’m feeling pretty confident about this game tbh. On the pitch, if our lads turn up and put in 100%, I just can’t see us relinquishing a two goal advantage. Question is, can our lads up their game for this- abso-fucking-lutely they can. One of the things many of us have commented on is how well we play against the “big boys”. We gave these cunts a lesson at their place, we can do it again. Our lot at 100% means a stingy defence and goals, the two things the Goons don’t want. They have to attack us, which plays in to our hands. Psychologically, Howe and Tindall have Legoheed so far in their pockets he can smell their sweaty nutsacks. He’s got nothing as far as mind-games go that can get to us, in fact I’d say his most likely approach, should he try, is to be critical of our “time-wasting”, which we’ll just weaponise against him. I fully expect to see Tindall give a prime canine display in the technical area We’re at home, our crowd is an enormous factor in our favour, so many players have commented how they love/hate coming here because of the sheer noise we create. So long as we turn up, this game is ours.

  10. Agreed BUT they also need to realise that they purchased a club that needed future investment in the playing squad, so probably double of what they initially spent on players, just to get it up to scratch. The EH factor has minimised that to some extent but as the squad ages the needs become greater. My only concern is we haven't gone the genuine revenue raising through ridiculous commercial deals like the big 13 clubs have. Sponsor for bog cleaner, fork sponsor, sanitary napkin sponsor, etc. If Chelsea can honestly get away with selling themselves their hotels and women's team, then our commercial team needs to be more adventurous within the lines.

  14. That's Howe's team talk sorted anyway.

  15. Well I could certainly believe it. I think if one of our lot did that, Howe would have them in his office the next day. Especially a young kid.

  18. Set the away team changing room thermostat a few degrees below ideal pre-match. Make them have to ask to change it. Once the game is underway, set it a few degree above optimum, so they’re coming into a hot dressing room at halftime. Also, send the subs up the pitch towards the Leazes to warm up, so that they’re passing through the away technical area. Start them warming up from about 15 minutes after KO, then do it every 5 minutes. Arteta will be a gibbering fucking wreck

  20. I really do wonder how you replace Trippier considering Tino is number one in that position now. If you go younger than Tino you're getting someone who is likely very raw and not ready for first team football. If you go older you're looking at someone who is either happy to be a squad option and isn't really good enough or someone who might stifle Tinos development by being better than him right now, who may also cost a fucking fortune. At 22 and 20 Tino and Hall could literally be our first choice full backs for the next decade or more, when have we ever had that? How do you build a squad to back them up?

  26. PSR doesn't allow for investment you might be able to make if you have an influx of money if you're stuck with sponsorship/commercial revenue from a previous owners regime, (hello mike!) PSR allows clubs without previous restrictions who have grown their commercial revenue due to onfield success from unrestricted access a free hit, clubs like us and villa have got to grow the hard way which short term they can do but we can't get the megabucks without success and the others up there have a great revenue supply and advantage from a previous system that has effectively pulled the ladder up by allowing them their investment but not others. It fucking stinks in the long run.

  30. I thought that was very poorly judged from a lad who has barely started his career, to be taking the piss out of someone like Haaland. I wouldn't have much sympathy for him if his career ends up off the rails.

  31. I'm hoping that this is like the Bobby Robson transitional season where we finished 11th twice but had the basis of a really good side before the right signings pushed us to CL the next season. The difference being our base is higher than Robson's was back then. It's a big gamble though and one that's been forced on us really. I just hope our ducks are all lined up with movement allowance for any unexpected bargains that can't be missed.

  34. This pretty much explains the whole thing. Inflation. Especially in the last five years due to covid and Ukraine. Inflation has never been factored into the equation at any point. Just using the £105m allowable losses set in 2015 and the BoE inflation calculator to bring that in line to Dec 24 - the figure should have been uplifted to £142m just to account for the inflationary increases over the last decade. That increase alone would have most likely meant we would not have had to sell Anderson or Minteh.

  36. That is correct. Ahmed needs to be reminded that what makes this place special is there are no "rules" just common sense, so complaining to the "mods" to have something shutdown isn't the done thing. Suck it up and deal with it - TT is a democracy manifest (especially in Ahmed's case).

  37. I don't think you change central defenders if you can help it during a game (unless you have a big lead and want to give someone game time). Like you say, a consistent back four has merits, I'd go so far as to say it's more important than that. The bigger problem is that we really don't have any other players we can bring in without significantly weakening the team or even players we can bring off the bench to impact a game(particularly while Barnes is out). Basically we need the current starting eleven to the majority of the work and then use the subs to rest them when the game is virtually won.

  40. it's ridiculous that the £105m hasn't been adjusted for the massive increase in inflation. it's just an arbitrary line in the sand and needs to be binned.

  41. UEFA FFP started in 11/12, premier league 13/14, both before Liverpool sold Coutinho to Barcelona and signed 3 title ensuring players off the back of it. I hate the bastards too but they did this to beat peak Man City and win a champions league. Caulkin here is basically saying that Staveley would’ve gambled in this window as she did in 2022 when we paid 40 million up front for Gordon. And as he says obviously when she convinced PIF in the first place when we were in the bottom 3. Common sense definitely says wait till summer but standing still to me is equally as risky as trying to bring in what we need this month. We’ve shown in the past that good business can be done in January too… https://archive.is/YJ1AL
