  1. The highlights are on the clubs youtube channel and watching them back I noticed two things about Isak. 1. He was SO annoyed with himself about the chances he missed but still gave props to the players who'd set them up 2. Despite the misses he still took his goal first time, at distance with absolute confidence. A lesser player would've taken touches, brought the ball further forward and risked losing the chance after the earlier misses. He's fucking brilliant.

  2. Both above squads had super talented players who, whilst great to watch, could often be guilty of selfishness and reluctance to drop back when needed. Every single one of current side, especially the “stars” of it, give 100% to the team. The semi-final and the final are probably the most complete examples of this that I can recall. It’s also very rare to see our lads properly arguing or frustrated with each other, even when they’re losing ( what’s that again? ). All of which comes from the unbelievably thorough job that Howe, Tindall, Jones and all the other backroom staff are doing, from coaching, recruitment, everything. After the initial, massive, adrenaline hit of the takeover had worn off and the size of the job at hand was apparent, I don’t think anyone, from Chairman down, could have possibly expected us to be in such a strong position so soon. It’s a beautiful thing to see.

  3. when I go to a match and a player from the opposing team blasts high and wide I usually shout aaaahhhh in his direction often accompanied with an arm aloft wanker gesture. if the opposing player hits the woodwork or forces our keeper in to tremendous save I usually remark to the person next to me... fucking hell, we were lucky there. if the opposing player actually scores I tend to let out a groan whilst muttering... ah yer cunt. not once, ever,, have I started rating the opportunities as a percentage to four decimal points and making a mental note of them to tot up at the end of the game. call me old fashioned if you like.

  4. Even god doesn't do that. 🎶 I can't remember if I sighed When Sky put up their xG slide But something told me that it lied The day the xG died 🎶

  5. I don't know if it has been mentioned on here (as I couldn't be arsed trawling through the xG drivel) but Pope did very well on the penalty. Feigned to go to his right just as Eze went to strike the ball which made Eze's mind up to go to Pope's left. Murphy also, what a transformation. That's what investing time into coaching players gets you rather than being a lazy thin skinned, fat bodied, snide who relies on his son to stick up for him on social media. Anyway, I'll let you get back to the xG now, apologies for derailing the thread with an observation about the actual fucking match.

  6. Wrong. We are secretly spending it in huge offshore accounts the players will access at the end of their careers. Could be bollocks apparently but is now solid FACT in the Land of Fans of Massive Lads (otherwise known as FML).

  9. We're cewkin the bewks and then just not spending it. Howe, Tindall, Mitchell and Eales like diving into it like Scrooge McDuck too much. Eventually someone will find their money swimming pool.

  10. Everything aside, I think this version of NUFC is playing the most complete football I've every witnessed in 39 years. We talk fondly of the 94-97 and 01-04 squads but even the most biased NUFC fan has to admit those squads had their flaws - particularly in defence. This side feels complete and what's doubly impressive is it's not down to buying our success, it's mainly been coached. The likes of Man Utd and Spurs could learn a thing or two at looking at our model rather than buying from the likes of Palace / Wolves / Forest / etc. at ridiculously inflated prices. We really did land on our feet with Eddie and his team. It's tremendous.

  11. I genuinely think the cup final has flipped a switch for the club. We went to Wembley and we battered the best team in the country and won comfortably, and now it looks like we're taking that into every game we play. Obviously you can't win every game, and we might even lose our next one, but I still think there's been a change somewhere. Last night was exactly the sort of game we usually either lose or win by 1 goal and it's nervy as fuck. We started like a train and were out of sight by half time. That's the sort of thing big, confident clubs do, and that isn't usually us.

  13. I know this is the Barnes thread but continuing on Longy, I feel a bit sorry for his position. Arguably he was doing the dirty work well but he's the kind of player who needs regular football to get the best out of him. At some point he became the scapegoat and the point of fans frustration which must be soul destroying for a player who is also a fan. He probably knows the writing is on the wall, doesn't want to leave but knows that he won't get game time sitting here on the bench.

  14. They can come up with any narrative they like, the reality is it’s founded in unhinged bitterness and, the most gauling thing for them must be, that none of us give a shit what nonsense they come up with. When it comes down to reality, we’re in a completely different stratosphere … and they can’t cope with it.

  17. I thought the much-vaunted Wharton was shit when he came on last night. All he wanted to do was kick people. Very disappointing & even worse than the rancid Hughes. As for us, well what can you say? I've run out of superlatives for Tonali. Surely Player of the Season? Hosting, talk about getting the monkey off your back. The Cup win has changed the whole nature of our club & support. Sure Villa might do us at the weekend, but we've transformed forever into a happy club with happy fans. Imagine that 4 years ago? We were that good moaning twat from Ashganistan kept his mouth shut after early slagging of Isak for missing the first chance.

  19. Aaaaannd our match thread has disappeared. (but they're not bothered or anything. And they don't watch it or owt. And it means nothing. And any wins will have an asterisk next to it or whatever. And they think asterisk is a cartoon about a gaul fighting the Romans).

  20. I found myself telling my 16-yr old that I think Murphy is probably a class dad. He just rolled his eyes at me. Much as he does when I ask him if he’d like Schar to be his next dad… 😄

  21. Happy to oblige I was looking at our run in yesterday and bar Ipswich, think we will struggle to get anymore points. I really do, that’s not an easy run in at all, especially with Everton playing much better of late. Squeaky bum time I’m afraid

  24. I’m a supporter of xG but Isak’s goal is a good example of its weakness. Now I may be wrong but the statistical modelling only looks at where the shot was hit from? Nine times out of ten that shot is hit into a box with bodies in it which adds further difficulty. The fact that Isak wasn’t under much pressure and had the whole goal to aim at isn’t taken into account by xG afaia.

  25. I am really loathe to wade into this since I'm fairly sure it's more about winding Gemmill up than the actual detail, but I do think that Isak having an XG of 0.04 on that goal is a testament to how fucking sweetly he can hit the ball compared to most players. And I would also add that now he has scored it, the XG for future such goals will be slightly higher All XG is telling us is that out of all the other scenarios that matched that situation (to the limits XG tracks the details), 96 shots out of 100 didn't go in. I don't know why everyone argues about this so much honestly, if you're not into XG it's fine but I find it pretty interesting from time to time.

  28. I've also got skin in this game and like Craig I feel there is much more nuance to this whole issue than both sides will allow you to think. It is the people desperate to claim victory rather than those who want to genuinely protect whichever sides rights that have the loudest voices and are driving the hatred The only thing I am certain of us the right wing ruling class have successfully turned it into an issue that has the oppressed fighting each other rather than directing their energy where it should go

  29. when I'm driving/been driven home I tend to ponder on whether or not I remembered to put some beers in the fridge. I generally have. I crack a few open and drink them while watching m.o.t.d. on the iplayer. then I go to bed. it's such a simple, uncomplicated life.

  32. Whilst I get the sentiment, it's pitched at one side of the argument. And this is what I mean about viewing it from afar as cut and dry when it is far from it. I'll expand a little on 'my skin in the game' My sister is trans. For the first 35 years of my life she was my oldest brother; for 13 years she's been my sister. She has a very clear view that trans women are men. She also has tremendous issue with the idea that transgender activists called for anyone to be allowed to self-identify their gender (i.e. legal sex) by statuatory declaration alone and that Theresa May caved into those demands. Her argument is there is nothing to prevent someone predatory to self-identify as a woman and allow themselves access, without challenge to scenarios and environments where women are at their most vulnerable. Because she airs these concerns she is subject to the most vile levels of abuse and death threats from key figures within the trans community. India Willoughby is one particularly delightful individual. I've elected to remain largely agnostic about the subject, but feel the need to outline there are very much two sides to this and the lines are extremely blurred. My footnote however is this. There are people in this world who feel the need to express they need to be different from what nature intended them to be and that is perfectly fine. But these people have issue with people who offer an opinion that is not aligned to theirs to the point where they become incredibly vile and nasty. Disagreement and debate is fine; vile insult and death threats is not fine.
