  2. Genuinely wish him all the best. Always seemed like a lovely kid in interviews, and he's moving on having had some genuinely class times playing for his hometown club since the takeover. Two goals to take us to Wembley, Champions League nights at St James's and a goal against PSG. Hope Leeds stay up now he's gone there.

  3. Pickford was £25m + add-ons but yes that was a huge fee for the then 23 year old Pickford. Ramsdale was a similar price and Arsenal went on to sell him for a slight loss 3 years later and he's now in the Championship at age 27. If you believe Gemmill Pickford is also in the Championship.

  4. I wouldn’t hope Leeds stay up if I played for them.

  5. In this day and age there's something to be said for letting the off-field stuff be sorted out by the responsible parties and just watch the games and support the team our manager puts out. It's more than a bit shit that we all have been forced into having such a detailed understanding of the financial implications involved in running a football club. At first it feels useful but at a point it starts to take the enjoyment out of it. Especially long drawn out player pursuits that sap the joy out of signing new players.

  7. He was massively important player in the side that reached then played in the CL and got to the first league cup final. Pretty much the dictionary definition of an Eddie Howe player. Raised his levels by grafting his arse off and buying into Howe’s methods. Our midfield would often look weaker when he wasn’t playing. He did the unspectacular stuff very well. We clearly have better technicians in his position now and his game time was going to be limited so the move makes total sense for all parties. Just don’t forget to replace him as we will need six CMs for CL. Thank you Sean

  8. I’m sure we’ll get his replacement. Just after we’ve got the CEO, the Sporting Director and been taken like a mug for a fortnight by whoever we deal with next

  9. We won a cup last season and this year we are in The Champions League. We have one of the best managers, centre midfield and strikers around. Honestly lads, enjoy these times, we’ve been utterly tragic for years. Stop fucking pissing your pants, we’ll be ok.

  14. personally i think that if any club identifies Trafford as the right man for them. then they should just pay the £40m for an english keeper for 10 years. Not my money. But with the English squad place bit too. Its a no brainer. If he's the right man.

  15. No idea if it's true but it made me grin anyway. His wife is twisting on about it now she's in Russia and could be a widow soon.

  16. Don’t be daft mate. It wasn’t targeted at you. You (everyone) is free to post whatever they want. My posts probably reflect my own apathy towards football in general for the last few years and transfer guff in particular, if anything it’s me who should swerve this thread.

  17. As has been pointed out by some on bluesky, Romano's phrasing that Man City are "considering" a move for Trafford, "but only if" one of their 2 keepers leaves.... That's a lot of caveat. LondonBlue seems to think there's nowt in it from their side. I think it's probably just that snake cunt Romano mischief making for engagement purposes, or possibly at the behest of some agent.

  20. howe's comments don't come across particularly positive it has to be said. are the dippers still a possibility post ekitike? arsenal with gyokeres supposedly set for s medical? barcelona with rashford en route? anyway, if PIF can't hang on to a player with 3 years left on a contract then it would seem to me they have no real desire to.

  23. Disappointed so far, I haven't heard of one story of the big away support being clapped everywhere around Glasgow by the locals.

  24. I really enjoy this team, the way we play, the fact we are actively trying to get better and it’s working. You are right thought, the whole rolling 24h news thing about transfers is fucking boring though. There will be genuine leaks but otherwise the people who “work” in that industry just have to farm engagement to justify themselves. It’s so blatant and we are an easy target, because fans are desperate for news, we have a large fan base and we are the “richest” club in the world.

  26. Are you suggesting we should have just offered £40m straight up, in doing so making him the fifth most expensive keeper of all time? They're understandably trying to get the most they can for him, noone could blame them for that, if Man City do pay £40m then I think it will have been bad business for us to have offered the same. £40m for them is 5.6% of their annual revenue (£715m), 5.6% of our revenue is £17.92m. If we were to offer £40m the equivalent for them relative to their revenue would be £89m. Hopefully the kids is invested it our project. I don't think City will buy him for £40m. We need to buy quality prospects with the right attitude, they can buy top quality ready made world class players. Trafford is the former.

  28. strawb, mate, you come into this thread and complain on the regular. You actually complain more about people complaining than the average poster complains about anything else. Not that anyone in here is being overly negative, in my opinion. With perhaps the exception of yourself. So really the same question applies to you. Don't you have anything better to do than trying to tone police an incredibly low-stakes discussion on the internet?

  29. Must be tiring being this negative all the time, are youse like this in real life or just football transfers?

  34. UEFA wage to turnover rules could fuck the lot tbf. If Isak gets 350k a week, pretty soon Tonali will want it, Bruno will want it and so on. And if they don’t get a fucking wriggle on and build a stadium that makes us some proper money, it’ll fuck us. The system is rigged from every angle

  35. I also think we’re letting perfect be the enemy of good in a lot of ways. It’s the same targets all the time and, sadly, it’s been proven that we either don’t have the pulling power or the financial clout to get them in the door, especially when our rivals are seemingly signing them just so we can’t. They’re playing dirty from a bigger position of strength than us so it’s absolutely important that we start being more flexible. Howe has proven he’s an outstanding coach, we need to start trusting him to polish some rough gems rather than enter these protracted farces for established “elite” players. I actually think Elanga is a perfect example of someone who is still on the upswing that you can conceivably attract. I look at players like Matheus Fernandes, Rodrigo Muniz, Joao Gomes, Chalobah, El Khannous, Rudoni, Hackney and probably more just playing in England alone that would improve the whole squad, give Howe more options to work with and they all have lots of ability that he could mould. They’re not going to set the heart racing but it gives you an honest to god squad and means you’re not relying on aging, inconsistent or plain unready players. You find some poor cunt to take Willock and sign Rudoni and Hackney from the Championship and I honestly think they’re better options, long and short term, for the side than Willock and Longstaff. FWIW, I think we will land a younger centre half from abroad but an Isak sale absolutely blows our plans apart and means we’re probably scrambling for the next month. That Sporting Director needs to come in now to help negotiate and guide the process since we saw what a lacklustre window last summer did to the start of our season.

  36. I dunno, I don't think that interview sounds as bad as is being made out. There's no 'I'd like to keep him but it's not in my hands' style comment, it's more like 'You never know but as far as we know everything is good there'.

  39. I think @strawbhas really hit the nail on the head. With social media and 24hr news now, that space needs filling. People need their $$ and clicks. In the 'old' days you would hear about the odd thing on the radio or local rag but it wouldn't be like it is now.

  41. It does seem that, from the outside, we’re operating a snails pace compared to others but all we have to go off is scraps from local journos and constant non-updates from engagement farmers who contradict each other every 10 minutes. So who the fuck knows? We moved away from Ekitike pretty quickly but Trafford seems to have went on for 18 months and we’re no further forward. If it’s been that long and we still can’t find a compromise with Burnley, we need to fuck it off and look elsewhere. Since Man City will just steam in and pay the buy back clause and think nothing of it
