  2. I expect Tino to leave in the summer. CL or not for us doesn't hold much relevance, I fear. City can offer basically permanent CL football and greatly improved wages. And the wages matter way way more. Players aren't sentimentalists about this stuff, rarely ever have been, and especially aren't now with agents in their ears making sure that human emotions don't come into it. And who can blame them? This will continue to happen. We can't offer the wage so we can't compete. This part of football history will be remembered as the beginning of a truly protectionist era, as a response by the established giants to the rise of City and PSG. I also don't see how it ever ends. Not that I have any insight. Anyway, in our lifetime, sport has evolved out of the end of amateurism and local loyalties (at least in a lot of disciplines) to become utterly enmeshed with geopolitics and international business. And that sort of trend doesn't seem to show any signs of reversing. Football is a closed shop. NUFC may manage to overcome it in time but only because we're owned by one of the only entities in the entire world with the financial and political muscle to push its way into the conversation. And we may well do so eventually for reasons that have nothing at all to do with football because there are a lot of people in the world who want to do business with Saudi Arabia. It's all very icky stuff really. I guess we're all complicit so long as we're paying attention. But, hey, I'm a moron and a hypocrite so expect something more than nothing at all from me at your peril.

  8. The world cup was like football Christmas, you'd see incredible players you'd never ever heard of just appear on-screen and play fantastic football and now it's just the cunts who all play for Chelsea etc.

  11. City generally do their transfer business early and fairly straight forwardly, I can't see another Liverpool/Isak saga as that was just an absolute perfect storm of absolute cunts. I don't think he'll go in Jan, hes in a really competitive spot for england fullbacks for the world cup and hes a dead cert to play every game for us that he can while also looking like (and being) one of the best in the team. Tuchel has been brutal on dropping people if they aren't playing/performing so a high profile move is risky in Jan. He could go in summer but we'll want/get top dollar for him and then he'll be off to somewhere that will double or triple his wages and be competing for titles and in europe every year. Can't argue with that from our current position.

  16. It's worth asking though, do we just think that because he's the one who plays in the PL and Sky adore him? Fair enough if it's totally global but for all I know Dembele could be far more prominent given he's just won the Ballon d'Or

  17. We've (Europe) been at war with Russia (Putin's lot anyway) for years but the russkies have so far been the only ones fighting it. He's been pushing the envelope for years, MH17, nerve agent deployed on a british street etc. etc. etc. Now his placeman is in power in the US and his man here is rising in the polls, he's also got Orban in the EU. We're losing.

  18. Cattermole would commit a red card offence in the first 30 seconds of a derby knowing he wouldn’t be sent off . Wouldn’t get away with that now

  23. No I get that but the cringefest ceremony with Trump and the ticket prices are a new level of ridiculous. Alongside other relatively smaller things that might not have been noticed everywhere, like the delayed suspension for Ronaldo. Is there a precedent for something like that? On the verge of making the game look like a complete joke at this point and noone seems to be able to do anything about it.

  24. My mate bought a programme at RP in the late 80s and I had a glance before the game, one of their regular features must've been interviewing a fan. One of the standing questions was 'How do you celebrate a win against the Mags?"* Which I thought was odd considering games against them were pretty sporadic for about twenty years previous and we'd had the upper hand which KK, (peace be upon him), was only going to further enhance. *His answer? He said he'd go into Newcastle the following week and buy a video of it as it would be sold out in Sunderland but I don't think NUFC would be releasing a VHS of a derby defeat so I think he'd have been a bit disappointed at a waste of a journey tbh. (They didn't ever beat us that day nor ever again at RP).

  26. We were talking in the office the other day about it - 30 years ago when they had the world cup it was a sporting event and I cannot recall Clinton anywhere near it. It's polticised to fuck these days - it always was, but this is insane!

  35. I don't think he's engineering a move the way Isak clearly did, but if the opportunity to join Man City and establish himself as their first choice RB, he's unlikely to turn it down. If there is genuine interests, conversations will be ongoing and it'll be on us to state that Man City attempt to get business done early, or not at all.
