  1. Hope he rots on the bench. Unfortunately I think he'll probably be at someone like Arsenal come August 31st.
  2. KEVIN NOLAN today spoke of his immense pride after being appointed skipper of Newcastle United - and the prospect of leading the Magpies out in their opening game of the season at Old Trafford on Monday night. Chroniclelive were first to reveal news of Nolan’s pending appointment as captain on July 23 – and the move by Chris Hughton ends any talk of Sol Campbell taking on the armband when he is fully match- fit. Nolan did a great job of captaining Bolton earlier in his career and helped take the Trotters from the Championship and into Europe. The Scouse ace has already spoken openly about a five-year plan to pull off something similar on Tyneside and was a valuable and influential part of last term’s promotion campaign. Nolan said today: “It really is an honour to be made captain of a club like Newcastle United and I’m delighted to have been given the responsibility. “I spent three seasons as captain of Bolton which was a great experience, and I’m delighted to now be captaining this famous club. “I had a taste of it last season when I wore the armband for a couple of games towards the end of the campaign, but to do so on a regular basis will be a special feeling.” United’s first priority will be to secure survival in the Premier League this season. But Nolan and the United players have amibitons beyond just staying out of the bottom three. Nolan added: “We have a great set of lads here and I’m relishing the prospect of leading them out this season – and together we can hopefully achieve what we want to this season.” Toon boss Chris Hughton is delighted with his appointment, but with the likes of Alan Smith, Joey Barton and Fabricio Coloccini all having skippered the club in pre-season – and the arrival of former Spurs, Arsenal and Pompey captain Sol Campbell, he is satisfied with the experience at St James’ Park. He said: “What we have at the club are a lot of big personalities, and there were a number of possibilities for the role of club captain. “We have a lot of characters and a lot of leaders. “But of course, we’re all aware of what an honour it is to wear the armband and Kevin will, I am sure, make a great captain. “Both he and Alan Smith have a big role to play for us both on and off the pitch and that’s a continuation of what they both did last season in what was a great campaign.”

  5. From the official Marseille site: Hatem Ben Arfa Newcastle est intéressé mais pour l’instant, il n’y a pas d’accord, donc on en parle pas. On travaillera avec les gens de Newcastle et avec Hatem Ben Arfa which translates to: Hatem Ben Arfa Newcastle are interested but for now, there is no agreement, so we do not review. We work with people of Newcastle and with Hatem Ben Arfa

  10. Sky are jokers like. Just watch netbusters 'top 100 goals in the Coca cola leagues' for last season. Totals: Nicky Maynard: 6 NUFC: 0 No sign of Jonas v Barnsley, Pancrate v Watford or Nolan v the blades!
  11. Tool. It's a clear indicator we have a fanbase two or three times bigger than Spurs', I don't see how it can be denied. We're shit and on telly more than you. In the early part of the season. You might just be playing the sky 4 more towards the beginning of the season. Your Derby's always going to be on because of bother. Loads of factors. As I say, it really means nothing. The 'Sky 4'? Never heard that term before. But from these statistics, we're in the top 4 of their choice of TV picks.
  12. Put some white stripes on that and it's the perfect home kit.
  13. The World Cup has been utter toss so far. Hope it picks up when the so-called bigger fish come into it.
  14. Personally, I think it's a good statement. By far and away the least embarassing thing the clowns running our club have done in a long time.
  15. Take on 200 kids...... Wonder if Ashleys scouts were at the game.
  16. Won the World Cup this afternoon. Jobs a good'un
  17. So anyone who was 50/50 towards buying a season ticket has had their decision made an awful lot easier for them.
  18. Saying that, 4 adverts in a row in the middle of the Leicester v Cardiff game were World Cup related
  19. Aye there's normally like a 100 day countdown in all the papers etc. I personally can't wait for it. Exams will be over, beer will be flowing and it'll be a month of footballing heaven.
  20. BUMP! Is this thread not OFFICIAL enough?
  21. More interestingly, it says we're off to Europe after it. Hope it's somewhere nice, I fancy a good trip.
  22. Loved Mourinho's "Shearerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" celebration there
  23. I don't agree with their gamesmanship, but you'll struggle to see a better defensive performance than this for a very long time.
  24. We won the FA Cup for the first time 1910 Barnsley (n) 2-0 (0-0) FA Cup Final Replay Shepherd(51,65pen) 55,364 The unlikely surroundings of Goodison Park saw Newcastle lift the FA Cup for their first time. Howay the Lads!
