"Joey Barton: I'm as good as any anyone in the country, says Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has insisted that he is "as good as anybody in this country" and set his sights on winning a place in the England squad. The controversial Newcastle midfielder, who has one international cap to his credit, has also called upon England head coach Fabio Capello to select "in form" players rather than "big names" following England's lamentable World Cup finals. "For me, first and foremost, I want to do well for Newcastle United, but watching some of the performances in the World Cup over the summer I think, that on form, I'm as good as anybody in this country," Barton, 27, said. "I don't say that lightly, and I have to go out and prove that, but surely every midfielder in this country should be thinking like that. They should be looking at it and saying 'that's where I want to be and that's where I can go'. really? When he was along side woodgate, it was the best we ever seen of him, but I think it's possible for a centre half to make another look good, or bad. dont get me wrong Dr Gloom, for the vast majority of the time he was with us he was canny crap.

I dunno, his (lovelyhands) movement and pace is pretty good but he needs other players to bring the best out in him (ie. routledge and maybe guti). mind his finishing and hold up play is not great.

tbf to him, when he was alongside Woodgate he was canny awesome. He needs someone alongside him to tell him what to do (as woodgate did) as his decision making is utter fuckin' gash!
