Is that supposed to be a dig or something? Can't really work out the tone of that reply but make no mistake that the side effects of drugs that restrict the production of seretonin in the brain can lead to some pretty awful states of depression

I do because she's spoken to me about it a lot as she sees me as someone she can confide in... her issues are that as a kid she had everything handed on a plate to her, no cares in the world and just went out with her mates all the time. Now she has a job she hates, no money, has to fend for herself and aspires to have a life and life style that is unobtainable. She's not in such a state she can't get out of bed... that's a severe depression, she just can't cope with being an adult who has to work hard and be responsible for herself if she wants the lifestyle she is used to. No I'm not a doctor but I know the lass well, I know what bothers her and why she's anxious / depressed.

I dunno really... with the man the fuck up comments (I said I manned the fuck up earlier in this thread) it depends on why you are depressed. For example the lass at my work really could take control of her life and it would aleviate the anxiety and depression... she is depressed due to not taking life head on and making the best of it and wanting everything on a plate rather than working for it. Chemical inbalances etc are a different type of depression and no manning up will change that. I suffered from severe migraines and one was so bad it left me with sight problems for a few months (still only about 85% better about 2 years later), and because it was so severe the docs put me on anti-migraine pills to stop them ever happening again. Worst couple of months of my life as I just felt sooo depressed and like I wanted to just cry constantly all day every day (I never ever cry)... had to eventually come off the pills and just take my chances with the migraines as they just altered my chemical balance so badly that I couldn't cope with any sort of minor set back or things not quite going to plan.

My boss is like that, not very sympathetic and doesn't seem to understand which I think makes it worse for the lass and I know she'll be dreading coming back thus continuing the cycle of anxiety. Lots of people don't understand mental health issues and actually make things worse rather than supporting the person, and even worse some people just think it's an excuse and they are taking the piss by having time off. Still you have to protect yourself and if I were her I'd have deleted everyone from work off facebook a long time ago (I don't have anyone from work on my facebook btw)

Yeah she defo does have real issues but keeping your boss as friend on Facebook whilst doing these things whilst being off long term sick ain't the wisest of moves

Lass at my work has been off for about 3 months with depression and anxiety attacks... she's stupid enough to post pics on Facebook of her out with her mates on a weekend or at Slaley Hall for a spa day whilst being friends with her boss on there who is seeing all this. Not the brightest of girls! I do believe she has issues like in all fairness, mainly brought on by the fact she's a bit of a daft bint who aspires to have a life style that is unobtainable with her level of intellegence and qualifications and instead of studying and working hard to get ahead just gives up and gets depressed and anxious. I used to be pretty depressed in my early 20's... I just smoked lots of dope to cope with it, worked well until it started making me have panic attacks on the metro and not want to leave the house on weekends. I realised that only one person could make things better and that was me. I manned the fuck up, quite the dope, went out and faced life head on and sorted myself out. Glad I did as was in a pretty bad place at the time, but sadly a lot of people blame it on everyone and everything and never taking control of their own destiny and life leads to a self perpetuating cycle of unhappiness.

Really? I would disagree completely tbh... you might not see Apple as a cool or aspirational brand but most people do. I can image giving a regular Joe Blogg's an iPad and they'll be buying in to the cool factor straight away which is something they wouldn't do with a Nexus for example. On the other hand a techie might look at me in disgust and throw me out of his house Apple is cool, most people think so... I can guarantee that if you asked 100 people to name any tablet other then an iPad about 85% would struggle.

Exactly mate... if people can recognise the brand and it's 'cool factor' then they will be more likely to associate my work and brand with the same 'cool factor'. They may also think the other photographer had an iPad where as I have a seemingly inferior product because they haven't heard of it and it feels different... regardless of whether the product is actually better or not. It's all about perceptions at the end of the day.

Doesn't really bother me being tied in, at the end of the day if it works for me then I don't really need it to change much. One of the main things for me is definitely the 'perception of cool'. Hand an ipad to a potential client and they think 'oooh an ipad'... hand them a different tablet and they think 'couldn't he afford an ipad?'... not good when you are trying to convince them that you're the kind of guy who spends serious money on serious kit to do the job as well as possible.

If you compared each individual Android phone vs iPhone I'd be shocked if any one single one sold more than the iPhone... fair few phones run android if I'm not mistaken and so I'd guess thats why those figures come out that way. That old saying about being able to prove owt with stats. At the end of the day I use Apple products and am satisfied with them... If that's the case I'd have to be a bit of a geek to start switching to other brands just for 5% better processing power or resolution on the 50% less apps it had, just so I could go "ha yeah but look at me I shunned Appple for a 9% larger screen and that makes me uber cool... now form a queue to suck me off ladies as it's going to be mayhem otherwise". Honestly don't see any benefit going Android or Nexus etc... it's fine is you don't already own an iPhone or iPad but if you own one then you actually get less benefit from buying a different brand as they won't sync and any apps you buy you have to buy twice if you want to use them on both devices. There's that whole 'it's cool to hate Apple' vibe from a lot of people but at the end of the day it's just a bit of a geeky toy either way and if anyone really cares that much about it they are a nerdy virgin

iPad and iPhone are class mate, no one can deny that. People can get all geeky about processor speeds and screen resolution but I can guarantee 99% of people couldn't and wouldnt see any benefit with a Nexus over Apple product. Add in all the apps for apple and its easy to see why they have the markets share of customers

Yep I got one! Ended up with a white 32gb one. Seemed to be plenty in stock so think a lot of people haven't bothered due to having bought the 3 recently

Haha yeah good point but I'm 100% happy with my iPhone so have no real desire to move over to an android phone.

Depends on what you want to use it for though really... like I said I have an iPhone so the syncing between the 2 is invaluable. The specs of the Nexus don't impress me really any more than the iPad as all I'll be using it for is to show clients examples of my work and the iPad screen works perfectly for this. Other than that I'll probs play footy manager on it and browse the web, maybe watch films on the plane etc. Can see why some might go for the Nexus though... especially as it's highly unlikely they'll release a new version every few months!

I don't want a Nexus as I have all my appointments on my iPhone and the ability to sync the 2 and have each back up the other is a big bonus with the Ipad tbh. Plus I like high fiving people

Haha I meant has anyone tried to buy one before... i.e. has anyone ever tried on the day or the day after. I understand completely what your are saying though as when I read it my initial reaction was... WTF does that mean?!

I know they could be pre-ordered from a few days ago and all the fan boys will have done this and probably queued since about 1am this morning... so does anyone think I have any chance of walking in to the Apple shop or John Lewis later today and picking one up, or will they be completely sold out? I can go tomorrow too but am thinking I might have the same problem? Anyone tried to buy an iPad on release day or the day after before?

I usually do that without needing to be pissed tbh... me and McFail have had a fair few 'debates' regarding Toon v Everton lol
