Nope... I want you to pick your best one and post that. It's not about just taking one pic and uploading it, it's about taking lots then working out which is the best and uploading it. Feel free to either post other pics in the members pic area, or you could post a link to a Flickr set if you use that in the discussion thread, but the point is to keep the comp uncluttered and members to display their very best shot

Nice pic but wouldn't meet the theme of the comp sadly... Check out the photography section and all the info is in there -
It's the devil's work... don't do it!
-
Don't do it... 'colour popping' is awful and tacky. Better to destaturate the image and boost the colour you want to stand out... like this for instance: Here I desaturated the whole image and then boosted the red... much nicer result than colour popping would have produced

My advice would be to buy a £3k DSLR and learn how to become one of the top 5 photographers in the world. If you do this I think you'll definitely win (but don't tell anyone I gave you the tip ok!)

Good stuff mate Kit lens is decent enough like I reckon but depending on what you're shooting a prime or a fast zoom (f/2.8) can give you more scope to get creative with bokeh which is nice. I have a tripod and NEVER use it... not much call with the type of shots I take but if you're doing landscapes etc it'll be a god send... however once you get your new lens a ND filter will be a good purchase or a graduated filter depending on what you're shooting. It's a never ending money pit this photography lark!

missed opportunity here I think... the path you pretty much ommited to the right could have been used as a 'lead in line'. Do a google search on 'Lead in lines' as they are a really powerful tool to use

It's hard to get to that stage mate... all you can do is keep trying and learning. Have you seen the competition I've set up on here? Hopefully that'll give you something extra to focus on as will probably help hone your skills quite quickly if you're thinking about a shot and how to achieve it so you can enter something good I know i've said it before but try and avoid the scatter gun approach and pick a type of shot and a reason for taking it. I started off just doing portraits of my wife and trying little techniques to see how they worked, so playing around with aperture or poses etc... so whilst you're trying to picture the shot in your head also think 'ok i'll try doing it with a shallow depth of field, and then with a large depth of field and compare how they look'. If you do this you can learn a lot as you're comparing 2 identical pics side by side and seeing how things like depth of field can change how an image looks

Best way to learn is by messing around If you want good guides just go to youtube and there's loads on there. I'm a 'fiddler' (not in the Saville way) and learn by fannying about but have used the odd guide on youtube to help me along the way. I like the conversion you've done by the way... keep going as think you're definitely improving!

Before anyone enters the comp please go to the photography section and read what the competition is about, how it works and also read the 'rules of engagement' sticky in there: http://www.toontastic.net/board/forum/36-competition-time/ Cheers -

You might want to read the 'rules of engagment' sticky in the photography section so you're aware of the rules and what happens to you if you break them -
Anything goes mate... you have creative licence to photoshop, HDR, tilt shift, convert to black and white, add an instagram filter... basically do what ever you want

Yeah just one per person... makes it easier to vote on the winner -
Hello all, Not sure how many of you on here are budding David Bailey's but if you fancy a bit of fun I've set up a competition in the 'Photography Section' of this forum (main board page, just above the Gaming section). Ant has kindly offered up a prize of a years subscription to Amateur Photography Magazine to the winner (see thread in photography section for more details), so please have a look and have a go at submitting something after Xmas and New Year. This is open to everyone so it doesn't matter whether you have a £3k DSLR or a camera phone... as long as you take a decent pic you're in with a shout of winning. If you don't get anything decent feel free to post something anyway just to take part Any questions just let me know.

Ok I'm keeping the 1st month's comp nice and broad in terms of subject... Festive / Celebration. I know none of you are going to be thinking about photography over xmas so the aim of this month's comp is to make you keep your camera or phone on you over the festive period and hopefully take some nice pics that will document your xmas & new year. Upload your best one and hopefully you'll win Images must be taken between today and the 20th Jan... I will be checking this in the EXIF data of the images so no cheating!!! Might be worth everyone reading the 'rules of engagement' sticky above this thread so they know what's expected of them. I'll give you a few pointers to get you going but please bare in mind you can submit anything that fits the theme... this is just to maybe get you thinking of the types of pics you could take: Xmas markets / stalls Tree decorations Children having fun (please make sure they are your own or you have permission 1st) New years celebrations Like I said they are just pointers and feel free to shoot what ever you want (within the theme). Ant has very kindly offered to put up a prize for this month's competition... a years subscription to Amateur Photographer Magazine! So there's a little extra incentive to take some great photos over the festive period. I am putting an extra rule in place for this month's comp - If less than 10 people submit an entry the prize will be withdrawn. I don't want Ant wasting his money on this if people aren't going to enter. So please make sure you enter something, and if you know anyone who's in to photography get them to sign up (if they aren't already a member) and enter. Closing date for entries is Sunday 20th January and then voting via a poll will then take place to determine the winner. Please don't submit entries in here as there's a thread specifically for that... post in here to chat about the theme and anything related, or questions you might have about it

Just thought it would be a good idea to set a few rules in place for the competitions so here they are: 1) All entries must be from the time period stated... in other words no cheating and submitting a pic you took 4 years ago. The aim is to encourage you to get out there with you camera and share your best shot and help you get out of your comfort zone. I will check the exif's of every entry and anyone found to be cheating will be disqualified and as I can edit things all your posts will be changed to say you're a nancy boy who likes to dress up in your mum's underwear and dance in front of the mirror to Roxanne by The Police 2) The competition will be judged by you guys, so no overlord or panel will be picking what they deem to be the best entry... the competition is for the members, judged by the members and only moderated by the overlord if someone posts something obscene or pornographic (although feel free to PM those pics to me) 3) I will pick the topic / subject each month, however if you have any idea's feel free to PM me and I'll consider them. 4) Some months will have a prize (providing you we get enough participation... no point offering a prize it only 3 people post pics each month)... The evil overlord (me) I will not be eligable to win prizes in these competitions... I will enter them just to take part, but as I'll be choosing that months theme it would give me an unfair advantage should I compete for the Porsche 911 / Mansion in the Lake District / Round the world trip etc 5) Critiquing people's entries is fine but please be nice and remember this for fun and we need people to enter every month, so any rudeness or overly harsh criticism will not be tollerated (punishment will be similar to point 1) 6) Have fun, embrace the theme for that month and take part 7) Only one entry per person

I love how many times copyright law has been broken so far going by this thread. No skin off my nose like but technically (i.e. legally) taking an image from google and printing it without the copyright owners permission is against the law... henda you might wanna mention this to your brother just to avoid any issues should his company grow at all... he may already know and not give a fuck but ultimitely he shouldn't be doing some of these. If he chooses to ignore that fair enough but giving him the info can't hurt
