KEVIN KEEGAN will launch a sensational £15million raid to bring Thierry Henry back to England this summer. The Newcastle boss has told Mike Ashley the French superstar tops his wanted list and the Toon owner is prepared to give Keegan the green light to land his man. Henry has not settled at Barcelona since his move from Arsenal last June and is seriously considering quitting the Nou Camp at the end of the season. A shock move to Major League Soccer in America has been mentioned but the prospect of being the main man for one of the most passionate sets of fans in Europe is a strong lure. Henry, 30, spent eight years at Arsenal before joining Barca for £16.1million. Yet his dream move has turned into a nightmare and he was unhappy again at starting on the bench against Manchester United on Wednesday. He has three years left on his deal but the Spaniards would let him go if they could claw back most of what they paid out. Any fee would be a drop in the ocean for billionaire Sports Direct owner Ashley. There were suggestions he would try to sell up this summer but a run of good results has KO’d that. Instead, the Toon supremo wants to bring a “sexy” global name to the club. Keegan is convinced Henry could have a similar effect on fans as Alan Shearer’s arrival did in 1996. And Toon insiders believe the Frenchman would be lured by the prospect of being the big man on Tyneside. Henry also wants to return to England to see more of his young daughter, Tea.

If he does sign he'll probably break his leg at Euro 2008. You make a very good point.
-
If he does sign I think I will have found a team to support in Euro 2008.

Where's RobW when you need him ?

According to Wikipedia, he's Viduka's second cousin.

From The Sun: NEWCASTLE are close to signing £12million-rated Croatian midfield star Luka Modric. Dinamo Zagreb vice-chairman Zdravko Mamic jetted into Tyneside on Tuesday and met Toon officials in a hotel to discuss the move. Modric, 22, has been targeted by a host of European big guns with Chelsea and Arsenal among the favourites to land him. But Geordies executive director of football Dennis Wise has won the battle. Modric will join after Euro 2008 and has even hosted a farewell dinner party with Dinamo pals to toast the transfer. A source close to Modric said: “Mamic came back to Croatia and insisted that Luca is close to moving to Newcastle. “He always talked about Spain but Portsmouth’s Croatian star Niko Kranjcar has told him to move to England. "The money Newcastle are offering is fantastic.” Meanwhile, Toon boss Kevin Keegan is set to offer defender Steven Taylor, 22, a new deal.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtm...4/sfnnew124.xml Newcastle on verge of signing Luka Modric By Rob Stewart Newcastle are close to buying highly-rated Croatia midfielder Luka Modric in a £12 million deal with Dinamo Zagreb. Dinamo vice-president Zdravko Mamic met Newcastle representatives at the city's Malmaison hotel this week for talks over the playmaker who will be a key member of Slaven Bilic's Croatia side at Euro 2008. It is understood the deal has been spearheaded by Newcastle's director of football, Dennis Wise, and should Modric, 22, sign it would represent a significant coup as he has attracted the attention of Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal. Mamic, who oversaw Eduardo da Silva's move to Arsenal, has informally confirmed that Modric is near to finalising a move to Newcastle, where manager Kevin Keegan is short of midfield creativity. There were suggestions last night that Modric was already celebrating a money-spinning move, although it is doubtful that he would earn the £80,000 a week being paid to Dinamo old boy Mark Viduka. Modric had also been linked with Barcelona, but his compatriot, Portsmouth's Niko Kranjcar, recommended that he move to the Premier League. Modric underlined his potential during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign and was instrumental in the 3-2 defeat of England at Wembley in November that alerted clubs across Europe to his talent. Modric's arrival would hasten the departure of Turkey international Emre, but England Under-21 captain Steven Taylor is to be offered a new deal. "Taylor is a young and promising defender," Newcastle chairman Chris Mort said. "We would like him to stay at Newcastle long term. We will sit down with Steven and his father, and hopefully work something out."

No he didn't. Not your day is it? Class photo like. Lewis' face I remember getting up at about 5 in the morning to watch that race. Awesome spectacle. It was the most incredible race I had seen, I remember when the news broke about the drugs test, I was absolutely stunned.

And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green And was the holy lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark Satanic mills Bring me my bow of burning gold Bring me my arrows of desire Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold Bring me my chariot of fire I will not cease from mental fight Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand 'Til we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land 'Til we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land

Obafemi Martins is on the verge of signing a new four-year contract at Newcastle United as players clamour to be part of Kevin Keegan's revolution at St James' Park. With Michael Owen enthusing about the manager's “fantastic” plans for the club and Habib Beye eager to extend his deal, Martins will commit himself to the club in the coming weeks. A new contract worth £90,000 a week, which removes the £13 million get-out clause inserted by the previous regime at Newcastle, has been agreed in principle for months. The team's flirtation with relegation caused delays and while it has yet to be signed off by club officials, there are only minor formalities to be addressed. Martins, who was bought from Inter Milan for £10 million in 2006, has played a significant role in Newcastle's renaissance, starting the past six matches, during which the team have remained unbeaten, in a three-pronged attack featuring Owen and Mark Viduka. The 23-year-old has scored 19 goals in 53 league appearances for the club and while he has shown displeasure at being substituted, he is happy with life on Tyneside. Chris Nathaniel, the striker's agent, said: “Oba has been treated so well by everyone in Newcastle and he is happy and wants to stay. We have been in talks with the club and there are a couple of things to sort out, neither of which will break the deal.” Beye's relationship with Newcastle began more recently, having arrived at the club last summer. Yet despite his team's difficulties this season, the 30-year-old Senegal right back has established himself as a favourite with supporters. The affection is mutual. “I want to stay here for a lot of years,” Beye said. “I have two years on my contract and maybe I have to speak with the manager for more years. I love this club and I love the city. When I left Marseilles it was difficult because I played there for four years and everyone liked me. You come here and you don't know the country and you don't know the club. But when I came here everyone was friendly and the fans were brilliant. The stadium is incredible and it gives me great pleasure to play there.” If Keegan, who has identified Thierry Henry, the Barcelona striker, as his fantasy signing, has his way, Newcastle's future should be promising. It is a point that the manager made to Owen when he informed the England forward that the club would soon be contacting his representatives to begin contract negotiations. Owen's deal is scheduled to expire at the end of next season, but he was impressed with what he heard. “The situation is that the manager said to me about ten or 12 days ago that he wants me to stay. He told me what type of player he's going for in the summer and what he thought we needed and his vision for the club,” Owen said. “It's all fantastic to hear. But it's just been the manager and he said then that the chairman would get in touch with my adviser over the coming weeks. It's not me putting pressure on, but he hasn't yet, so there's nothing really more to say. I presume he'll get in touch with me and we'll talk over the summer.” Optimism is building. “We've had some troubled times this year, but the stadium has always been full and the fans have always got behind us,” Owen said. “It's nice to play some good football, to get some confidence and it's nice to get the fans' backing. And it's nice to climb up the table. “I couldn't have imagined saying a few weeks or months ago that there really is a buzz and anticipation for next season. In a way we want it to continue because we're on a great run, but if we can take these performances and the confidence we've got about us and add one or two top players then it's going to be exciting times.”

Aye, that was a massive blunder.

+R discs tend to be less compatible, but it might be your player, could be worth trying the discs on a couple of other machines.

What discs are you using ? DVD-R's or DVD+R's ?

My thoughts too, it was a shit fight all in all, Hopkins got his tactics from Sam Allardyce, instead of boxing to his strengths he simply tried to stop Calzaghe doing what he did best, I thought it was very very close fight and in some respects a draw might have been the best result.

I've got it, had it for this past season for about £17 I think - apparently it goes up after a year but we'll see. I'd say it's worth it, there's quite a few features on it but tbh I've only used it for the live match commentary. Ditto

Keegan: “Mike Ashley came to see me afterwards and told me there’s at least £250million to spend this summer. I think it was that — or it could have been that he was off out to celebrate.”

Pat Butcher would be a good replacement for Geremi.
