Bob Cass - Daily Mail Sir John Hall's assertion on radio last week that Mike Ashley was the man for Newcastle United was hardly music to the ears of Freddy Shepherd, who lay seriously ill with pneumonia in his hospital bed. Apparently the former Newcastle chairman’s decision to take the sports goods entrepreneur’s silver was not just of great benefit to his family’s fortunes — it was all done for the good of the club. Not a lot has changed then since April 1988 when I was instrumental in persuading Sir John to get involved "for the good of the club". And it was ... until he and his son Douglas used boardroom influence to end Sir Bobby Robson’s reign as manager — a decision with which Shepherd, to his eternal regret, complied. He took the fans’ flak while his former associates headed for the hills. If Sir John’s arrival was "for the good of the club", his departure could be even better!

Real 1 - Deportivo 1 Cracking match

Looks like Valencia out of the title race, losing at home to Villarreal, goals from Forlan and Tommason. Real now playing Deportivo, Sergio Ramos just put Real in the lead. and Barcelona playing Getafe later tonight. Its still really close at the top of La Liga only 2 points between Real, Barca and Sevilla for the title.

he's welsh isn't he. anyone seen owt of him or are we just going off football manager again? Like I said, the first hand assesments I've had about him is that as a defender he's very average, and no where near worth £10m, which is probably why ManUre, Arsenal and Chelski didn't bother with the lad.

If the likes of Jenas and Dyer can get in the squad, then Beckham thoroughly deserves his recall.

Sounds like the cylinder's might have exploded, ouch ! Reminds me of an occasion when someone brought their car into our workshop on the sly on a Friday night and did some welding on the sill's of the car for his MOT, some one asked him when he'd had his window's tinted, he said they aren't ! He then climbed from under the car to see the windows all black, he'd managed to ignite the carpets whilst welding underneath and the interior of the car was on fire ! The car was quickly pushed outside and the fire brigade called out, blamed it on the local chav's in the end.

Was talking earlier today to a couple of my mates who are season ticket holders at Norwich and they think he's shite ! they've seen him a few times and other than pace and his deadball skills he's a very average defender in the Championship. One comment was that when Norwich last played Southampton, Huckerby was played on the right and ran Bale wragged all day long, and Huckerby is poor on the right. I think Spuds have once again paid over the odds for young English talent like Jenas, Huddlestone, Dawson etc. Shame

Much of the media seem quick to say Owen looked sharp etc, but the bottom line is that Owen has played 450mins (ish) of football since his comeback and hasn't put the ball in the back of the net once. Owen has always been a player that can go missing for 89 mins and then pull out a goal or two, so far he's not demonstrated that.

I think if Owen was staying he'd have said so by now.
