  8. Newcastle terminate Bond contract Newcastle have terminated the contract of assistant manager Kevin Bond. Bond was placed on gardening leave after a BBC Panorama programme secretly recorded him saying he would consider receiving payments from an agent. The coach, who was at Portsmouth at the time, says he has never been interested in receiving bungs and is expected to sue the BBC for libel. "Newcastle has terminated Kevin Bond's contract," read a statement on the Premiership club's official website. Bond ended his long association with Harry Redknapp in July by leaving Portsmouth to become Glenn Roeder's number two at Newcastle. Now reports suggest Lee Clark could be promoted to work alongside Roeder. Bond's camp stated his intention to sue when his solicitor, David Price, said: "The short extract from my client's conversation with the reporter was taken out of context and presented in a completely misleading manner."
  9. Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has posted a positive fitness bulletin regarding Michael Owen, revealing to Sky Sports News that the England striker's recovery from a knee injury is going to schedule. Owen suffered cruciate ligament damage at the World Cup and has visited renowned surgeon Dr Richard Steadman in a bid to come back from the serious injury, however the former Liverpool star is still expected to miss the majority of the current season. Even though a lengthy period of recuperation is now necessary after the surgery Roeder says Owen is feeling positive about his current situation and that his comeback is going according to plan. "He is doing really well," Roeder told Sky Sports News. "He is exactly where we think he should be after the operation. "He is in rehab, we know it is going to be a slow and long process but the main thing is the surgeon is delighted with the way the operation went and so is Michael. "So Michael can see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel even though he is still a fair way away, but he is in good form himself and happy." Roeder also revealed that The Magpies are looking forward to welcoming Shay Given back to the squad after the goalkeeper was released from hospital following surgery to repair a bowel tear. "He has travelled home from the hospital on Saturday, had a safe trip back," Roeder added. "He is now back at home and we are looking forward to seeing him tomorrow when we have our photocall at the ground." Roeder was speaking at the North East football awards where Magpies midfielder Charles N'Zogbia was nominated for the young player of the year award. The Newcastle boss had words of praise for his young charge who has impressed during his time at St James' Park after joining from Le Havre in 2004. "He is a wonderful young talent and I don't think people realise still how young he is. "I really enjoy working with him and he has a huge future at Newcastle." The player himself is looking forward to playing a key role for the North East side this season as they aim to end a lengthy spell without a trophy on Tyneside. The Magpies play Levadia Tallinn on Thursday as they look to book a place in the group stages of the Uefa Cup, and N'Zogbia says Middlesbrough's run to the final of the same competition last year has given their rivals hope. "For me it is important to play in the Uefa cup because I want to win something for Newcastle and it is a big cup for us," said N'Zogbia. "We have got more players in the squad and enjoying to play, I want to play as well. "I was playing last year and I want to prove again, I want to do the best for the team. "Last year I was watching on TV Middlesbrough in the final and for me you know, if I watch Middlesbrough, for me I could watch Newcastle as well in the final. "For me we can do something this year."

  12. Yes I saw that too, its on the video link on that bbc news page. Its been raining like stair rods for the best part of 24 hours, some of the town is under a couple of feet of water, Yarmouth seems to have had it worse, its a shame, I'm sure its very upsetting for the Albainians.
  13. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/5378080.stm Homes under water in flash floods Homes have been left under water and schools and businesses forced to close after heavy rain brought flash flooding to parts of Suffolk and Norfolk More than 90 properties in Great Yarmouth, in Norfolk and Lowestoft, in Suffolk, have been affected, with some areas under 5ft of water. Great Yarmouth railway station was closed and traffic was at a standstill. The floods also caused one pump at a pumping station in Great Yarmouth to fail for two hours, Anglian Water said. Emergency plan A water company spokeswoman said: "The system is designed to cope with a certain amount of rain but it has been so heavy in the early hours that the network has been overwhelmed." Police said flooding in the centre of Great Yarmouth was "extensive" and advised drivers to avoid the town. Norfolk Fire Service received between 200 and 300 calls in four-and-a-half hours from people having flooding problems. "An emergency plan has been put into operation, which involves the local authorities and emergency services, and we are thinking about shelters," Norfolk County Council spokesperson said. Schools closed in Great Yarmouth include Cliff Park First and Middle, Great Yarmouth High, Greenacre First, Middle and Nursery and Northgate St Andrew. Herman First and Middle in Gorleston are also shut.

  15. http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...+English+return Former Sweden goalkeeper Magnus Hedman is considering coming out of retirement after attracting interest from several clubs. Hedman quit football in the summer of 2005 after leaving Scottish giants Celtic. The 33-year-old is thought to have attracted the interest of a Premiership club as he could sign for them even though the transfer window is shut because he is a free agent. Hedman is now weighing up making a shock return to England with the mystery interested club. "I have got an enquiry from a top club. It feels flattering," Hedman told Expressen. "I have talked to the goalkeeping coach and he believes it takes three weeks before I am fit for the fight. "I don't want to tell the name due to my respect for the club. "They want an experienced keeper as back-up and it is hard to get players without a contract."
